Brace yourself for the first ever live-action Pokemon movie

Originally created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995, Pokemon has been a part of almost every child’s life of that generation. The enchanting world of special creatures and the zeal to become a Pokemon master like the protagonist Ash has been the dream of everyone. Recently, with the advent of Pokemon Go the long popular IP seems to have rejuvenated the memories and brought back the craze and on the other hand raised the share values of Nintendo by whopping levels.

Now, it seems like the Pokemon fad is here to stay as Variety reported that Legendary Entertainment has secured a deal for the very first live-action Pokemon movie, featuring ‘Detective Pikachu’, who is a brand new addition to the Pokemon universe, which was brought in through the game Great Detective Pikachu in Japan. The movie will be created in collaboration with The Pokemon Company.

The distribution of the film will be done by Universal Pictures outside of Japan and the local company familiar to the franchise, Toho, will be handling the distribution in Japan. Legendary has informed that the details of the movie are kept under wraps and the production for the movie will begin in 2017.

Legendary Entertainment was recently acquired by Chinese entertainment giant Wanda for $3.5 billion.
Till now, Pokemon has 19 movies to its name but all animated ones, the first being ‘Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back’. Till we get more news from the creators, we can only speculate that it might be related to the game which was released on 3 February, 2016.
