This animated ‘Sleeping Beauty’ proposal is straight out of a fairytale

Who doesn’t want a dreamy proposal? A romantic dinner, sudden popping of “the question”, hidden rings and your better-half getting down on his knees- sounds oh so romantic, right? But cliche`. What if the guy goes all the mile extra and creates an animated film for his girl?

Filmmaker Lee Loechler recently proposed to his high school sweetheart by animating her and himself into Disney’s 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. Loechler, for the past six months had been working with illustrator Kayla Coombs to animate his girlfriend Sthuthi and himself into her favourite Disney princess movie.

“The only thing better than seeing the smartest person I know completely dumbfounded was knowing we’d get to live happily ever after together,” Loechler wrote on Instagram.

The proposal is melting hearts of many. Oh Loechler! You have raised the bars for men across the globe. We ladies are not ready for anything less than this.

Fenil Comics to release Australian graphic novel in Hindi

Ben Slabak

Fenil Comics will be releasing its first international series in January 2020, titled Exilium. It is an Australian space fiction graphic novel series written by Benjamin Slabak. The six part series was the highest crowd-funded comic book series with a collection of $26,000.

“Exilium is one of the favourite stories I have written, born out of love for sci-fi and space opera classics such as Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Firefly, and others. When I created Exilium, I didn’t want it to be yet another alien invasion story and instead I tried something a little different with a twist that I hoped would surprise the readers,” Slabak told AnimationXpress.

Exilium is written by Slabak, created and illustrated by Salomon Farias with colourist MarcSintes. The team is spread across Australia, Chile, Spain and the United Kingdom. Slabak with his team will start production on the second series very shortly, which picks up where the first series left off.

The Hindi edition of Exilium will be available in both digital and print formats. Slabak has been collaborating with Fenil Comics since 2011 when he launched a digital comic book publishing platform in India with exclusively Indian comics, and a number of Fenil Comics titles were among them.

Fenil Comics, which started in 2011, has always loved to give something new and fresh to our Hindi comic readers. In 2018, Fenil Comics decided to launch some best sellers from international publishers in Indian languages for our Hindi readers. “We now have publishing rights of five publishers from different countries. We are planning to release our first foreign series Exilium by the end of January 2020,” said Fenil Comics founder and CEO.

“I have kept in touch with Fenil and was happy to see Fenil Comics grow to become one of the best-known publishing houses in India with a large Hindi readership. I was very excited when an opportunity came up in 2019 to collaborate with Fenil Comics in publishing a number of my comic book series in Hindi, starting with Exilium. I look forward to reaching new readers and introducing them to my comics and graphic novels,” Slabak mentioned.

Slabak currently has a number of other graphic novels in production which he hopes to be published in Hindi in the near future.

Apart from the original English release, Exilium was translated to Japanese in 2019 and the whole team is very excited about the upcoming Hindi edition and Slabak is also planning on adapting Exilium in several other languages as well in the future.

Jawaani Jaaneman’s VFX is worked upon by Redefine

The trailer of Jawaani Jaaneman was recently released. The trailer opens with Saif Ali Khan’s mother (Farida Jalal) telling him about an acquaintance whose son was gay. The movie is touted to be a laughter riot. After releasing several posters, makers have finally revealed the two minute-30 second long trailer which gives us a window into of this unusual comic film. The movie’s VFX work is done by Redefine.

A spokesperson from Redefine shared that they are associated with a number of Bollywood projects.

After Dabang 3, the recent projects include Jawani Jaaneman and the upcoming Street Dancer 3D.

Although not very VFX-heavy, we can expect the chroma screen shots and crowd simulation scenes to a fair degree including some sequences involving CGI. While Saif looks incredible in his young avatar and Tabu beguiles us with her presence. Pooja Bedi’s daughter Alaya is making her debut in Hollywood.

We also see how Saif’s character, an aging Don Juan, is emphatically against marriage and having family. “Sher hu mai sher. Aur sher tab tak raja hota hai jab tak akela rehta hai (I am a lion. A lion is only king till he is on his own),” he says. His belief is shattered when Alaya Furniturewalla finds her in an alley and tells him that there was a chance that he is her father.

This development now compels him to suddenly grow up and take up responsibilities he had been shirking for so long. The film is slated to release on 31 January 2022
