Nickelodeon forays into BARC’s ‘Top 10 Channels’ in all categories

As per BARC reports, during the last week (53) of 2019, kids’ channels viewership reached a new peak with over 25 million viewing minutes!

Among all, Nickelodeon reigned the charts of not only ‘Top 5 Channels’ and ‘Top 5 Programmes’ in Kids categories, but also gained a position among ‘Top 10 Channels’ in all categories. It was the only kids channel to foray into the list.

BARC in week 53 report said that Nickelodeon has topped the channel with 188425 weekly impressions, followed by Pogo TV with 103183 weekly impressions.

Nick was followed by POGO, Disney channel, Sony YAY! and Sonic in the kids channels category. Among the ‘Top 5 Programmes’, Nickelodeon reigns with Motu Patlu in the top three slots while Pogo’s Chhota Bheem and Nickelodeon’s Rudra takes the other two. Motu Patlu has received at least 95 million viewing minutes followed by Doraemon at second position with 57 million viewing minutes during vacation.

Sony Yay!’s Honey Bunny Ka Jholmaal and Hungama’s Shinchan bagged third and fourth positions in the most-watched kids shows during vacation respectively. Both shows have received at least 53 million viewing minutes.

Animated shorts nominated for Oscars 2020

The Oscars 2020 short film (animated) nominations are announced. There are five films competing to take home the most prestigious award. Scheduled to be broadcast live on 9 February, the nominations for the Oscars include:

Dcera (Daughter) by Daria Kashcheeva:

Synopsis: In a hospital room, the Daughter recalls a difficult childhood moment when as a little girl she tried to share her experience with an injured bird with her Father.

Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry and Karen Rupert Toliver:

Synopsis: An African-American father learns to do his daughter’s hair for the first time.

Kitbull by Rosana Sullivan and Kathryn Hendrickson:

Synopsis: A fiercely independent stray kitten and a chained-up pit bull experience friendship for the first time.

Memorable by Bruno Collet and Jean-François Le Corre:

Synopsis: Painter Louis and his wife Michelle are experiencing strange events. Their world seems to be mutating. Slowly, furniture, objects, and people lose their realism. They are “destructuring,” sometimes disintegrating.

Is ‘The Witcher’ animated series coming to Netflix?

After the tremendous response received for The Witcher, there are speculations among fans about an animated version for the much loved series coming to Netflix.

In an interview with IGN Poland, executive producer for the series Tomek Baginski, had the following to say when asked about potentially seeing The Witcher in animation: “I don’t want to give away too much here, but who knows if we won’t see The Witcher in this style. However these are things I would rather not talk about too much for now.”

The fact that Netflix is releasing an anime series Altered Carbon: Relseeved, which will take place in the same universe as Altered Carbon, is giving fans more hope for an animated series on The Witcher.

Ex-Ogilvy Ryan Williams joins Ventana Studios

Ventana Studios takes on board Ryan Williams in the capacity of producer for new business growth in the local and international markets.

He will be handling all the new business projects for Ventana Studios while maintaining the great rapport shared with the studio’s existing client base. “Together we are aiming to bring about changes in how a mid-sized CG/VFX studio operates in the current, ever-changing market,” said Nube and Ventana Studios business head Ranjan Karkera.

Ryan Williams has spent a long time of his career at Ogilvy Mumbai in the ad-films production team and has worked on some of the best-known brands in the country like Red Label Tea, Bru Coffee, Taj Mahal Tea for HUL, Bournvita, Mumbai Indians, Asian Paints, Tata Sky, Fevicol, Astral Pipes. Post Ogilvy he moved to DDB Mudra which saw him working on brands like Big Bazaar, FBB, Brand Factory and Nutralite to name a few.

“Ventana Studios has experienced a promising growth curve since its inception, and we are looking to further our growth by collaborating with Ryan Williams. Together we plan to make Ventana “The Go-To” studio partner for all CG and VFX related work in advertising,” added Karkera.

Coming from an advertising agency background, Williams understands the expectations of decision-makers across various brands, agencies/production companies.Karkera feels that this understanding coupled with sound technical skills would surely be beneficial in rendering the support to AD agencies and production house partners looking out for a typical collaboration with a CG/VFX studio.

The big players in the CG/VFX market command big money while the smaller entities most times fail to deliver an optimum product. The team at Ventana is looking to explore the in between void. Ventana’s team of CG/VFX artists is handpicked and includes top players of the industry.

ESFI partners with ConnectIN Esports to organise EIBC in Mumbai

The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) and ConnectIN Esports have entered into an agreement to organise the Esports India Business Conference (EIBC) in association with ESFI, with the first edition to be held in Mumbai during March 2020.

On signing of the agreement, Esports Federation of India director and Asian Esports Federation VP  Lokesh Suji, said: “ESFI’s core objective is to bring all the stakeholders under one umbrella and enable, boost & grow the Indian esports ecosystem. ‘Frozen 2’ sing-along will be coming to theatres on 17 January

The Frozen 2 sing-along will be heading to theaters next week, giving fans a chance to belt out their favorite tunes. Disney has released a sing-along version of the full Some Things Never Change from the blockbuster sequel, featuring the original song performed by Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf) and Jonathan Groff (Kristoff), written by Academy Award winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez.

Following its November theatrical release, Frozen 2 soared to the top of the box office. Considering the popularity, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that a special singalong version of the sequel will premiere in select movie theatres, beginning 17 January.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen 2 opened in U.S. theaters on 22 November 2019, becoming the highest grossing animated movie of all time in early January.

Here are our favourite PC gaming hardware announcements from CES 2020

The annual trade show Consumer Electronic Show organised by the Consumer Technology Association revealed a huge array of gaming technology especially PC gaming. Gaming is a crucial market segment for the majority of the PC makers and virtually everyone had something to announce in that realm. Here are some of the PC gaming technologies which has made  a mark in the PC gamers’ wishlist:

AMD Ryzen 4000 series:

The Ryzen 4000 series processors promise up to four per cent greater single-thread performance and up to 90 per cent faster-multithreaded performance than the competition. AMD also promises up to 18 per cent faster graphics performance over its rivals . AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series, codenamed Renoir, is the company’s next move in the gaming market after it dominated the desktop market in 2019 with the Ryzen 3000 series. Renoir is based on the Zen 2 architecture but has optimizations for use in laptops, spanning the gamut from thin and light notebooks to high-end gaming notebooks with 8 cores and 16 threads. While it carries the 4000 series naming scheme, it is functionally a 3rd Gen Ryzen or similar to the 3000 series desktop chips.

Dell G5 15 SE:

Dell G5 15 SE to offer the latest AMD hardware and features, the G5 15 SE will also ship with a new design language that the company describes as “fighter plane-like.” It will have optional 144 Hz displays, an optional 4-zone RGB keyboard, and an optional 68 WHr battery. It starts at $799.99 and will be available mid-April. Alienware is also rolling out a new 25” gaming monitor with the company’s new Legend design ID. It features NVIDIA G-Sync and 240 Hz refresh rates, and will be available March 11th for $499.

Lenovo Legion Y740S

The Lenovo Legion Y740S is a 15-inch laptop packed with 10th-generation Intel Core H-Series processors, up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The specs are loaded as  it weighs just 4.18 lbs (1.9kg). The laptop starts at $1,099 (about ₤860, AU$1,590), which is less expensive than the Razer Blade. Meanwhile, the Y740S comes equipped with a 300-nits Full-HD or a 500-nits Ultra-HD 15.6-inch display panel with a 60 Hz refresh rate. Inside Lenovo’s Legion Y740S sits Intel’s 10th Generation Core processor H-series with integrated graphics accompanied by up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory as well as an up to 1 TB PCIe SSD. To make sure that the CPU works at full steam at all times, the Legion Y740S uses Lenovo’s new Coldfront 2.0 cooling system comprising of a vapor chamber and four fans.

Samsung Odyssey monitors:

The Samsung Odyssey is available in two sizes. The larger G9 model has a 49-inch display and the smaller G7 model has a 32-inch display. The redesigned gaming monitors promise to take gaming to the next level. The Samsung Odyssey is one of the first-ever monitors to feature a deep curving 1000R high-performance curvature and the amazing OLED picture quality.According to the company, the monitor’s performance has been certified by TUV Rheinland, a leading international certification organization. The organization also awarded Samsung with certifications for the industry’s first high performance 1000R curved display and Eye Comfort. Further, the monitor offers gamers 1ms response time and 240Hz RapidCurve technology. This makes gaming very immersive and gamers are put right in the middle of the action. The Samsung Odyssey monitors will also support NVIDIA G-sync compatibility and adaptive sync on DP1.4

Asus ROG Swift 360Hz

The Asus ROG Swift 360Hz, the 24.5-inch 1080p display is true to its name, billed as “the world’s first 360 Hz monitor. That figure refers to the display’s refresh rate: The screen updates 360 times per second, which is six times as often as a standard 60 Hz monitor and 50 per cent faster than a 240 Hz screen. Asus has yet to announce full specifications for the ROG Swift 360Hz, let alone a price or release date.

HyperX Alloy Origins Gaming Keyboard:

Alloy Origins mechanical keyboard is built using tactile HyperX Aqua mechanical switches and features RGB exposed backlit keys for brighter illumination with radiant lighting effects and five adjustable brightness levels. The keyboard features an aluminum body with an aircraft-grade brushed finish for durability and stability, plus a space-saving layout to maximise desktop real estate for ultimate mouse movement. The USB Type-C to USB Type-A keyboard cable is also detachable. Alloy Origins offers advanced customization features for lighting and macros, including simple customizable per-key lighting effects.5 With on-board memory, users may save up to three Alloy Origins profiles for on-the- go gaming using HyperX NGENUITY software. The keyboard also includes 100 percent anti-ghosting and full N-key rollover.

Ghost canyon:

Intel’s Ghost Canyon, also known as the NUC 9 Extreme, an extremely small form factor PC. This announcement follows the heavier push into SFF PCs for enthusiasts we saw in 2019. The NUC will come in multiple versions, with a workstation variant called the NUC 9 Pro and options to utilize the Intel Compute Unit to simplify the build process. The NUC 9 Extreme will support up to an Intel Core i9 processor and sport a 500W power supply, which should supply ample power for most users. Additionally, partners like Razer have adopted the idea of the Intel Computing Element from the NUC and have used it to create the Tomahawk small form factor PC. This PC fits a full-size GPU in addition to all of the other components that come built into the Intel Computing Element. Intel also gave some early disclosures about the first GPU products powered by the company’s Xe GPU architecture. The first product, Tiger Lake, will be built using Intel’s 10nm++ process node.

Animated reboots of popular characters coming to CBS All Access

Television shows Lassie, Mr. Magoo, and George of the Jungle are getting the animation reboot treatment at CBS All Access. Created by writer Elizabeth Gaskell, the character Lassie and her titular adventures graced the small screen for 19 seasons. Lassie was last seen on animated series The New Adventures of Lassie. Mr. Magoo was featured in two animated series, and was also brought to life by actor Leslie Nielson in Disney’s live-action adaptation, Mr. Magoo. Inspired by Tarzan, George of the Jungle was hailed as one of the greatest cartoon characters of all time.

Launched over five years ago, CBS All Access is in serious competition with Netflix, Disney +, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and others. The streamer soared to new heights after developing original series including, Star Trek: Picard, The Twilight Zone, The Good Fight, and the new Stephen King adaptation of The Stand.

“We’ve seen a tremendous response from our subscribers in just the few months since CBS All Access began offering children’s programming. Bringing new editions of legendary classics like Lassie, George of the Jungle and Mr. Magoo to the service is a fantastic benchmark for CBS All Access, and we look forward to continuing to expand our offering for families,” said ViacomCBS chief digital officer and CBS Interactive president and CEO Marc DeBevoise in a statement.

The streamer made a separate deal in August with studios Boat Rocker and WildBrain to air new seasons of Danger Mouse and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, along with library episodes of The Adventures of Paddington Bear, Bob the Builder, Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget and Madeline.

Two Global Esports teams in run for the qualifying round of ESAC’20

Ingame esports and Srilanka Esports Association has organised  InGame Esports South Asia Cup 2020 (ESAC’20) in collaboration with National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka with platform title FACEIT  tournament licence  Valve Corporation and featured title is CS:GO .The tournament have started from 2 January and will continue till  26 January 2020.

Qualifiers have started South Asian countries  who are participating are Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The winning team will fly to Colombo, Sri Lanka to take part in the final play-offs for a $ 10,000 prize pool.

The qualifiers for India has started from 9January and the country finals is scheduled to be on 16 January and this time Global Esports will field both an all male GE Alpha and an all female team GE Rayne in the same tournament according to their official social media post. “Both teams have been performing impeccably well in the recent events and we are certain they will go on to take the top spot,” said the official post.

Here are the final qualifier teams who will be flying off to Colombo, Sri Lanka to take part in the final play-offs.

The qualifiers finals for India( scheduled 16 January),  Maldives (scheduled 13 January) and Srilanka (scheduled 15 January) is yet to commence.

It is a CS:GO tournament with team of 5V5 + 2 substitutes and every teams have to play three consecutive matches with best of three rounds to qualify for the Colombo playoff.
