Spielberg to bring DC’s ‘Blackhawk’ on screen

Steven Spielberg makes his way to the world of DC with the adaptation of Blackhawk which he will produce and possibly direct, making it his first feature based on characters from the comic book franchise.

Steven Spielberg

This news was announced by Warner Bros. (with whom Spielberg and his Amblin Entertainment are reteaming) a day after Spielberg became the first director to cross the $10-billion threshold in global box office for Ready Player One (which features cameo appearances by Batman, Harley Quinn, Batgirl and more).

“We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing Blackhawk to movie audiences worldwide,” said Warner Bros. pictures group chairman Toby Emmerich.

First published by Quarterly Comics in 1941, Blackhawk is a wartime adventure series focusing on an elite team of World War II-era pilots led by a mysterious man called Blackhawk. The team also known as ‘the Blackhawks’ or ‘the Blackhawk Squadron’ fought Nazis, the Axis powers, as well as super-villains and war machines (such as the memorable shark planes which could operate in water as well as in the air).

Created by Will Eisner along with Chuck Cuidera and Bob Powell, the series has also been adapted in the modern era as a part of The New 52 and have introduced a well-known DC heroine, Lady Blackhawk who joined the series in the late 1950s. The title was acquired by DC Comics in 1957.

“It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring Ready Player One to the screen. They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on Blackhawk,” Spielberg added.

The screenplay of the film will be written by frequent Spielberg collaborator, David Koepp (screenwriter for Jurassic ParkThe Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). Spielberg will co-produce the film with Kristie Macosko Krieger under the Amblin Entertainment banner, while Sue Kroll will be the executive producer under her Kroll Entertainment.

The timing for the production of Blackhawk is unknown as Spielberg has two projects in his kitty that includes the fifth Indiana Jones movie and West Side Story.

“Little Singham to be a hit with the shayari in it”: Reliance Animation COO Tejonidhi Bhandare

When India’s youngest supercop hits the screen with his valour and glory saying, “Police ki wardi, sher ka dam, naam hai mera Little Singham,” kids will have another superhero to add to their list!

Reliance Animation, Discovery Kids and Rohit Shetty Picturez came together to create something solid, something to connect with the kids, and Little Singham was born. With the rise in Indian IPs, it is a challenge for the partners involved in the creation of Little Singham, to keep at par or rather get a notch higher.

“The partnership has worked really well. Both our teams have worked hand in hand and have developed a bond where we understand each other’s requirements and work closely for delivering the best of the content,” shared Reliance Animation COO Tejonidhi Bhandare.

With the guidance from Rohit Shetty, the character was designed keeping in mind the target audience and the inspiration derived its name. With time to time mentoring from Shetty, the character has turned out quite riveting.

Reliance Animation had earlier worked on the animated versions of mythological characters and superheroes for the kids’ content sector. A few of their popular works include Krishna aur Kans, Shaktimaan, Little Krishna and Big Bees Jr., a package of nursery rhymes. What made difference in the creation of Little Singham was the style quotient and the contemporary character appeal supported by the established brand name. With Singham already in fame, the younger version of the same would grab eyeballs and be a hit definitely.

With around eight to 10 people working on Little Singham at the development stage, the number has rose to a grand total of more than 250 talented artists. “The new artists were intimidated as they thought they would be working to create the animated version of original Singham, but the tension ceased when Little Singham’s idea was showcased,” Bhandare added.

With around 52 to 57 episodes created so far and with 156 episodes to be made for now along with five tele features, the budget is in millions. The franchise will likely create huge fan base with the plans of merchandising it in pipeline.

The success of the IP is something all the partners are looking forward to. The IP is owned by Reliance Animation and Rohit Shetty Picturez, whereas the first 156 episodes and features for SAARC region are being co-produced by Reliance Animation with Discovery Kids.

“The shayari inserted in the series is going to be one amongst the hit moments,” exclaimed Bhandare. Little Singham will emphatically stand out from other superheroes in the arena of kids’ content with its strong style and balanced placement of the character as India’s youngest supercop, at least that’s the word around.

“We want each kid to understand that he or she is unique and should unleash their inherent strengths. They should be brave, focused and confident like Little Singham,” Bhandare asserts.

With tremendous hype generated around the character and the series even before the launch, it is sure going to be a delight to watch the lion-hearted Little Singham playing his bravery skills when the series hit the screen.

Nazara Games and Royal Challengers Bangalore collaborate for ‘RCB Epic Cricket’

Nazara Technologies and Royal Challengers Bangalore have come together to launch their second mobile cricket game RCB Epic Cricket.

RCB Epic Cricket is a 3D realistic and stimulative game for cricket fans. The game is currently designed to be played in three modes – multiplayer mode, live events and career mode. The unique part about its multiplayer system is that it enables the player to create their own RCB dream team and play against an opposing team in a turn based multiplayer match along with elements of strategy. The player can compete on daily, weekly and monthly leader boards to win plenty of original RCB merchandise.

Royal Challengers Bangalore chairman Amrit Thomas said “Over years, RCB has become more a lifestyle brand than just a cricket team. The fans connect with the team across multiple touch points on digital platforms. We strive to give them a seamless and more personalised experience for the love and support they have shown for the team.”

HP (Hewlett-Packard), one of the key sponsors for RCB for the 11th edition of T20 season, has come on board as the title sponsor for the official game. It has been integrated in the game in form of jersey branding, billboards, real estate branding, user interface branding and much more.

Last year, the RCB Star Cricket game rose through the charts and reached the number one spot among the top free games on Google Play within few days of its launch. While the peak engagement was during T20, more than 54 per cent of the engagement happened post T20 season and continued for the rest of the year.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new multi-player game RCB Epic Cricket with RCB. The fans are in for a treat this year with exciting merchandise to be won within the multiplayer launched in the game. We have also printed a QR code on all the tickets sold at the RCB stadium for them to have an interactive experience while watching the game,” noted Nazara Games CEO Manish Agarwal.

Over the last three financial years, Nazara has invested in mobile gaming companies within the sports genre such as Mastermind Sports, Moonglabs Technologies and HalaPlay Technologies which develop popular games. Its offerings in mobile gaming for cricket have also been augmented through acquisition of Next Wave Multimedia, which has developed mobile cricket games such as World Cricket Championship 1, World Cricket Championship 2, Beach Cricket and Bat Attack Cricket.

The live events enables the player to play real time matches of RCB. The Career mode, on the other hand allows the player to play as their favourite RCB stars such as Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Singh Chahal and Safaraz Khan and rule the pitch.

Nazara also have an exclusive mobile gaming rights for a multiyear partnership with RCB to license their intellectual property for curation of free-mium games.

Nazara recently acquired Next Wave Multimedia Private Limited and Nodwin Gaming which has further augmented its cricket mobile game offerings. Adding e-sports to its network of games has  obtained them a non-assignable, non-transferable license for a term of five years from ESL to use their system, community and management platform for setting up and operating the ESL tournament in India.

The game is available for download on Google Play Store for android devices and is expected to be available for iOS by mid-April 2018.
