Latest ‘Venom’ trailer shows Hardy’s much-anticipated symbiote avatar!

Around two months after getting a glimpse into Tom Hardy-starrer Venom, Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped a brand new teaser and we finally get to see him in his anti-hero outfit!

An extended sneak-peek of the movie takes us through visions of the symbiote getting into the hands of antagonist Cralton Drake (Riz Ahmed), before it bursts open and spreads terror among the people it comes in contact with. Including Hardy’s character Eddie Brock.

The symbiote is initially a specimen of experiment to understand its interaction with the human body and how it is the key to the evolution. But things go awry soon and Brock is infected by the extra-terrestrial organisms. This makes him go rogue, and indulge in death-defying stunts and deadly encounters.

The clip finally gives its anxious fans the look they were all waiting for – Hardy as the Venom, and mind you, it’s spine-chillingly terrifying! Even Topher Grace, who previously played Venom in Spider-Man 3, would be proud.

Double Negative is to be credited for the VFX, supervised by Andy Lockley. Paul Franklin is the production VFX supervisor.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom spews its terror from 5 October 2018 onwards.

philmCGI’s vision gets wider with VFX, animation and feature films in the pipeline

Nestled amidst nature, creating a peaceful environment to help the creativity flow, philmCGI seems to be an artist-driven studio that boasts of a corporate-look free culture with a friendly work-space and a relaxed location in Pune!

Anand Bhanushali and Arpan Gaglani, the founder directors started the studio in 2013 with a vision to create and bring to life great stories with good animation and VFX for both Indian and international clients. Since then the team has not looked back! The studio went global in 2014 with their first international series, Bobby & Bill popularly known as Bill & Boule broadcasting in Europe. And other TV series such as YoYo and Ziggy en de Zootram for a Belgium based studio, and Yakari and Oggy and Cockroaches for French studios.

Not just this, philmCGI is also working in the VFX space and is in the process of delivering over 400+ VFX shots for Bhavesh Joshi, a Phantom Film production, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. In the past too, the studio has delivered VFX for Bollywood feature films like Trapped and NH10 and is currently working for an untitled International feature film.

“We have always wanted to develop our own IPs keeping the global audience in mind and this process started from the inception of philmCGI,” said Gaglani.

The IPs hold a great value in the company’s brand name. In the last couple of years, the philmCGI team has also consciously been working on their own IPs.  Creativity, patience and the passion to tell stories are the basic things that go behind the creation of the fascinating IPs. With the global target kept in mind, the IPs are designed to reach the audience worldwide. They sure do reach out the targeted group with the complex yet simple issues addressed in the series.

Monster App touches a sensitive issue of a kid helping himself fight fear, a basic issue faced by all the kids worldwide, and hence making it reach the target group well. Zamboora is a simple concept revolving around the curiosity of two kids and a friend in another world. The series comes under the edutainment (education + entertainment) category.

These series spark creativity in a fun and entertaining way and also help ignite the concept of story-telling, using imagination in the best manner.

“We have lots of interesting projects in the pipeline. This year a lot of our hard work and effort of the last few years will be out on big and small screens, which is very exciting and we are looking forward it,”  Bhanushali stated.

Monster App, is making it big with plans to go to Annecy 2018 and Zamboora is in the making along with two others which are yet to be titled. But 2017 saw the epitome, when PhilmCGI delivered its first international CGI feature film as a co-producer, Marnie’s World and is currently working on two more International feature films along with a TV series called Badgers & Foxes which is a co-production between France and India and the broadcasting for the same has already begun on France 5 TV.

When asked about their favourite IP, Gaglani and Bhanushali couldn’t help but answer like a mother, “All our IPs are special and close to us, thus it’s hard to pick any one IP from the list,” exclaimed the duo.

Animating Cloth with X-Particles 4 – Quick Start C4D Tutorial

A Cinema 4D tutorial on animating cloth with X-Particles 4. Learn how to use the new xpClothFX to quickly create cloth objects.

I’m going to show you how easy it is to setup a simple cloth simulation in Cinema 4D using X-Particles. We’re going to use some simple objects and xpClothFX in XP4. By tweaking the xpTurbulence settings, you can create some amazing looks in a flash.

Animate Cloth with X-Particles

First, grab the object you want to turn into cloth. I’m going to use a basic plane for this example. (Note: I’m using X-Particles 4.0 for this tutorial.)

Animating Cloth with X-Particles 4 - Quick Start C4D Tutorial - Cloth Object

Select your object, then open the X-Particles dropdown menu and navigate to Dynamic objects. Hover over xpClothFX and click on Create Cloth. You object will now include cloth properties like gravity.

Now add a collider object. I’m going to grab a sphere, and then just move it down. With the object selected, head over to the Tags menu and add the X-Particles tag xpCollider. Now if you hit play, you’ll see the cloth naturally bounce around the collider object. You can adjust the bounce and friction settings to your preference for your project.

If you need more geometry for your cloth objects, here’s a simple workaround. Select your cloth object and drop it into a Subdivision Surface.

So it’s easier to see, I’m going to add a material to my cloth. This is a material I made using Topcoat, but you can use any material you’d like. To see the cloth object without those dots in your viewport, you can turn of the xpEmitter.

Now, if you want the cloth to act more natural, as if it were blowing around in the wind, we can make that happen with a few tweaks. First, let’s turn off our collision object and gravity. If you press play, you’ll notice the cloth just sit there without any type of movement. So, let’s go back to the X-Particles menu and navigate down to Modifiers then Motion and select xpTurbulence.

If you press play now, you’ll see the cloth start to wave around. Adjust the Strength of the turbulence to get more or less movement.

If you want your cloth to move much more, you can simply duplicate the xpTurbulence. Set one instance to a larger Scale, and decrease the second xpTurbulence instance. Now, play around with the Strength until you get your desired look.

This technique also works on advance geometery, so be sure to play around with different shapes and models.

PureRef is a Must-Use Reference Image Tool for All Creatives - Adjustments

All day I bounce back and forth between my DCC (digital content creation) apps to random reference bookmarks or folders on my machine. Sometimes even dragging images into the Cinema 4D picture viewer just to keep them in sight.

With PureRef, you can create a new canvas and drag as many images onto its infinite canvas as you’d like. The best part is that you can tell PureRef to stay on top of all your open applications and windows. While you’re working, you can dial in your look while having all your reference imagery sitting right next to your preview render (IPR).

The ability to save canvases means you can start keeping multiple PureRef projects to suit your current needs. It’s a huge time saver. I also love how you can quickly zoom, resize, and re-arrange your images anytime you’d like, saving the changes for the next time you need instant inspiration.

This tool improved the look of my work on first use. I was able to take 20 minutes assembling reference imagery, and during my look-dev process, I was able to hit the look I was after in minutes. You can even add notes to yourself within the PureRef canvas.
