Turner Japan launches three new brands in DTC channel

Turner Japan will launch three new channels in January 2018 on DTV Channel, the streaming service from NTT DOCOMO.

It will be the first time that the Boomerang brand is available in Japan, and marks the introduction of two brand new services: MONDO Mah-jong TV and Tabi Tele. They join Turner’s portfolio of channels already available in Japan, including Cartoon Network, MONDO TV, TABI Channel and CNN International.

Turner Japan general manager Tom Perry said, “The launch of the three new channels with our partner NTT DOCOMO enables Turner to continue growing audiences in this very important market. Subscribers of dTV Channel will be able to experience a variety of unique local programming, as well as some of the world’s most popular international animation localised for Japanese families.”

WackyRaces

Boomerang, Turner’s second flagship global kids channel, will debut with a host of new, premium animated series many with characters that are already household names in Japan. Alongside the likes of Scooby-Doo and Looney Tunes, the reboot of the Hanna-Barbera classic Wacky Races is set to make its national premiere on the channel.

MONDO Mah-Jong TV – as its name suggests – will present programming dedicated to the popular game, including the highly-rated Mondo Mah-jong Pro League competition with its celebrity professionals. Tabi Tele’s original local travel and documentary-style content will put the spotlight on popular tourist locations in Japan as well as in Europe and Hawaii.

Marvel vs DC in comics: Who copied whom?

Marvel and DC have been around for a very long time. They are better known as the Yin and Yang or the Godly brothers of the comic era. These giants have spawned several characters for comics, cinema and animated movies. However, sometimes the characters from each respectable universe share a striking resemblance to their counterpart. Here we list 10 characters from DC and Marvel, both superheroes and villains and also take a dekko at which character came first.

Deadpool and Deathstroke

Deadpool and Deathstroke

Both characters have similar fighting styles and weapons that range from guns, swords and both can heal themselves quicker than an average human. They also share similar names, Slade Wilson and Wade Wilson.

The DC character came out in 1980 whereas the Marvel character came out in 1991. Deathstroke is the original and Deadpool is possibly inspired by him!

Namor the Sub-Mariner and Aquaman

Namor and Aquaman

The Kings of Atlantis, sea creatures and mighty heroes of their respectable universes, they both share similar origin stories of being born from a human father and a princess from a sea kingdom. Though the costumes differ, they both hold a trident.

In this case though, the Marvel character Namor came out in early 1939 and DC’s Aquaman came out in 1941. Therefore Namor is the clear winner in this case.

Thanos and Darksied

Thanos and Darksied have god-like powers which make them almost invulnerable. And not only that, the evil duo also possess high intellect, mind control/telepathy, super-strength and many more frightening traits. The only major difference is the colour of their skin and the armour that Thanos wears.

The question here is, who came first? The answer is Darksied in 1971, where as Thanos came out in 1973.

Catwoman and Black Cat

The greatest feminine felines of the comic world that are both antihero and heroes in their own universes, these women are cat themed thieves wearing a black latex costumes. Selena Kyle and Felicia Hardy tend to become romantic partners to their own frenemies.

Catwoman made her debut in 1940 and Black Cat came out in 1979. Clearly, Catwoman is the winner.

Spider-Man and Black Spider

The web swinging hero has been a fan favourite in every movie or game created. This young teenager is always shown shuffling between saving his city and pursuing his love interest. But did you know that there were two teen spiders with similar stories?

Spider-man takes first place, since he was introduced in 1962, whilst Black Spider made his debut in 1976.

Its do or die for Venom against Kraven in the latest Marvel publication of the anti-hero!

An ardent Spiderman fan would always have his favourite hero associated with one pertinent villain that put the spidey to the sword like no other. Resembling a darker version of the web-slinger, Venom is that one negative character that hogs just as much limelight in the comic universe, if not more, than Spiderman himself.

The endearment with which it was received from the fan base is overwhelming, so much so that the monstrous symbiote is getting its own standalone Hollywood treatment next year.

But now, you wouldn’t have to wait that long as the next edition, the one hundred and fifty eight in the series, is lined-up for a release tomorrow, 29 November 2017.

Continuing from the events in the previous release, a savagely Kraven is wreaking havoc in the city and is thirty for Venom’s blood (excuse the pun). The two now square-off in what is touted to be a deadly confrontation as the latter would not only have to protect the innocent civilians, but also devise a plan to kill the immortal!

Who’ll come out on top in this brutal mano-a-mano?

The latest edition of Venom is written by Michael Costa and edited by Edward Devin Lewis.
