Dolby Presents: Escape, an animated short

A cinematic poem about the world-changing power of invention, the short film Escape is the latest example of animated storytelling that showcases state-of-the-art Dolby technologies. Combining techniques such as miniatures and animation with the spectacular imaging of Dolby Vision and the moving audio of Dolby Atmos, Escape invites the audience to imagine and experience a joyous vision of the future. It is a story of persistence and passion that is intended to inspire individuals to never give up on their hopes and dreams. After crash-landing on a desolate planet, a lone space explorer must find a way to make her new home habitable. The teenage heroine is an older version of the central character in our Emmy award–winning film, Silent, known there as “the Kid.” This intrepid character displays courage, passion, determination, and curiosity as she transforms the barren landscape she has found into a beautiful planet. Singer Imogen Heap developed an original soundtrack that wraps the audience in Dolby Atmos sound, unveiling the lead character’s changing emotions as she faces the challenges of a dark, disturbed landscape and persists to transform it into a place of joy and delight. Neurons day 8

Iggy Pop & David Bowie – The Dinah! Show – Complete – 1977

The show was recorded on 15th April 1977, at CBS Television City, Los Angeles. It includes Funtime and Sister Midnight, two tracks originally from the 1977 Iggy Pop album, The Idiot. Like so much classic Bowie stuff, this show ought to be out there in the public domain, in great quality for all to enjoy. But in the absence of that, I’ve pulled all the strands that we have together and Dear Viewer be forewarned… Disclaimer: the quality here varies from really good to really crap, and sadly is predominantly the latter. Most of this material has been fairly readily available for many years. However, I don’t think anyone has tried to compile everything that’s out there from the multiple sources, into a complete whole. And comparing all the sources, as far as I can tell, this is the complete show. At the very least, I haven’t seen as such. The show was recorded almost exactly 40 years ago, and today is Iggy Pop’s 70th birthday. So I’ve thrown this thing together this week, rushing to get it finished for today, and tried not to worry too much about the shoddy quality of most of it. I’ve loved Iggy Pop since my friend Stuart introduced me to Lust For Life, around 1981. Stuart was incredulous at my ignorance; that I was a self-professed huge Bowie fan, and yet not knowing about Iggy. I’ve seen Iggy Pop many times. The first show I recall was with Stuart, at the Reading Festival in the 80’s. Iggy was in a kinda Heavy Metal phase, breaking away from the weak and uninteresting Bowie collaboration Blah-Blah-Blah. I didn’t care for the current record either, but that’s always been an irrelevancy when you see an Iggy show. For that Reading gig, it was torrential rain almost the entire day, and Stuart and I got completely fried on acid. I remember being in the mosh pit at the front of the stage and the mud was so thick it threatened to pull off my Doc Martins. Later Stuart and I set up two chairs near the exit, in the pouring rain, and laughed uproariously as the punters left the show. We had been temporarily driven insane by the acid and by Iggy. Seeing Iggy has always had a very, shall we say galvanising effect on me. I saw him with The Stooges at Glastonbury, in 2007. Similarly, it was a rain soaked festival, and I got pretty mashed up. I joined the several hundred who invaded the stage at Iggys invitation. Fighting my way over to where Iggy was on stage, I hugged and kissed him and told him that I loved him. This was too much for the stage security and I was promptly hurled back into the crowd. Last year I went to the Royal Albert Hall show, and it was one of the most satisfying gigs I’ve ever seen. Iggy’s incredible energy, and Josh Homme’s band’s precise recreations of the Idiot and Lust For Life material was both stunning and very moving. So anyway, Happy Birthday Iggy – I love you! Do me an’ yerself a favor – watch it in HD with the sound UP LOUD! Hope you dig it! If anyone has any other footage, or ideas for another video project, of material from Bowie’s classic period, do please get in touch: nachomarcho@gmail.com Putting this video together was another labour of love, made with love and with respect for the source. I don’t own the rights, and I’m not making any money out of this etc. Just a fan making videos for other fans. Please Like, Comment, Subscribe. Thanks! Not a vast amount of video editing was done here (for a change, thank God!). The significant difference is that I’ve added a much better sounding audio source, from the same show. Hope you dig it! Do me an’ yerself a favor – watch it in the Highest Def available with the sound UP LOUD! Globe Chess Board

This is a chess board that I made with my father. It is made out of Walnut, Soft Maple and Jatoba wood. It took several weeks to create and is 100% playable! Each ‘square’ has a magnet embedded in it, as does each chess piece for easy movement of the pieces.
