7 game releases to look out for in February

2017 has a lot of exciting releases on the line for us, here are some of our most anticipated releases of February.

Fire Emblem Heroes: The title is already a famous one, only this time it will be a mobile spin-off of the tactical RPG (role playing game). Published by Nintendo for iOS and Android, players can summon characters from Fire Emblem to fight for them in turn based roles. The game releases on 2 February.

Platforms: Android and iOS.

For Honor: Knights, Samurai and the Vikings or Legion, The Chosen, and The Warborn will be the three factions of Ubisoft Montreal’s medieval hack and slash title which was first announced during E3 of 2015. Apart from a story-based single player campaign, the multiplayer mode features various modes like Dominion, Brawl, Duel, Skirmish and Elimination. You can join the battle on 14 February.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.

Sniper Elite 4: This is one of those franchises which have a strong but very compact fanbase. The impending edition will pick up from where the previous one had left. Here’s the official description of the game, “Covert agent and elite marksman Karl Fairburne must fight alongside the brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to help free their country from the yoke of Fascism, and defeat a terrifying new threat with the potential to halt the Allied fightback in Europe before it’s even begun.” The skilled sharpshooter begins his journey on 14 February.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.

Halo Wars 2: Another game would be added to the kitty of Microsoft’s cross-platform play initiative with Halo Wars 2’s release on 21 February. The real-time strategy game’s new multiplayer feature, Blitz, will bring in some changes, rather than the standard building base and resource management system. While in the single player campaign, you must stop (I’ld hope so) the new villain, Atriox and his group called ‘The Banished’ who have set their eyes on “the most powerful weapons platform the galaxy has ever seen”.

Platforms: PC and Xbox One.

Lego Worlds: The game was already on Steam early access and now would be formally released after two years. Developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Lego Worlds is a sandbox game where you can build your own world in 3D. Remember Minecraft, people?

Ben Affleck steps down as the director of the untitled Batman movie

Ben Affleck has decided to step down as the director of the standalone Batman movie of Warner Bros. News of Affleck directing the movie first came when Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara made the announcement in April 2016.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.”

The actor and filmmaker made his debut as Bruce Wayne in DC’s Extended Universe in the 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Though the film received mixed reviews, Affleck’s role as Batman was much appreciated. Later that year, he made a cameo as Batman in Suicide Squad.

Warner Bros., the studio behind bringing DC Universe to life said, “Warner Bros. fully supports Ben Affleck’s decision and remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life.”

Ben Affleck Batman

While Christopher Nolan directed the iconic Dark Knight Trilogy (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises), it would be an arduous task to direct as well as play the lead in the film. This seems to be the reason for Affleck to reconsider his decision and finally refuse to direct the film. He still however is firmly committed to his role and can now divert all his attention in giving the role the justice it deserves. The standalone movie will feature Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.

“Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world,” Affleck said, confirming his association with the untitled Batman movie. Affleck and the studios will now together look for a director.

Affleck directed and starred in the political thriller Argo for which he went on to win the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award as the Best Director and Best Picture and Academy Award for Best Picture. He most recently wrote, directed and starred in the film Live by Night that received mixed reviews and didn’t do well in box-office.

Affleck will be seen donning the cape of the Gotham vigilante, Batman in the upcoming DC and Warner Bros.’- Justice League, which is slated to release on 17 November, where he will be leading the group of metahumans against Steppenwolf and the Parademons.

One last glimpse before the grand ballad opens as Disney releases the final trailer of ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Disney is known to create magic with its near enchanting content; there is little doubt about that. Their animated feature, Beauty and the Beast of 1991 is possibly one of the most adored pieces of storytelling. From the plot to portrayal and the values it attempted to impart, it has been a fan favourite since then.

And now, with the changing times, Disney is taking the same storytelling forward with a live-action adaptation of the classic. With its release impending for 17 March, 2017 and a trailer already out in the recent past, the company has released the final trailer for the movie and it looks surreal.

Beauty and the Beast tells the tale of an arrogant prince by the name of Adam, who is turned into a hideous monster by an unknown enchantress. The curse can only be lifted when he learns to love and gets loved in return, but has to do it by the time the last petal falls from the rose which blooms on his 21st birthday. A village girl by the name of Belle ventures into the beast’s castle and agrees to take the spot of her father, who has been a prisoner there. Eventually Belle observes the good side of the prince and falls for him.

As observed in the past, the live-action adaptations haven’t been as successful as the original animated movie; however, Beauty and the Beast still looks as enchanting as you would expect from a Disney movie. With detailed sceneries and the majestic castle of the beast to the creation of the beast himself the VFX contribution from Digital Domain and Framestore compliments director Bill Condon’s movie pretty well. The walking – talking antiques present throughout the beast’s castle have also been beautifully created, as the trailer showcases them to be the ones who assert Belle with the back story of the prince-turned-beast.

The fresh trailer gives an extended look into the movie, including portions of its tracks, including the title track by Ariana Grande and John Legend and the final dance of Belle and the Beast. Eight time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won an Oscar for the original score of 1991 has provided the score for this one as well. Apart from Menken, new tunes have been composed by Howard Ashman and new songs have been written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.

The cast of the film includes Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts., Josh Gad as Le Fou and Luke Evans as Gaston.

Let’s wait for the release and see if the live-action adaptation manages to swoon the audience the way its animated counterpart did more than a decade ago.

Chris Miller announces the commencement of Star Wars’ Han Solo spin-off movie production

Star Wars arguably has the biggest fan following amidst its contemporaries. With a whole lot of movies and games to its name, the IP just holds its place of being one of the most famous franchises.

The recent addition to the Star Wars line up was the standalone movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and it did pretty well with the fans and has even been nominated for an Academy Award under the best visual effects (VFX) category.

Now, it seems like another movie from the same franchise has begun its production. The so far untitled movie will be a Han Solo spin-off / prequel and director Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) took to twitter to announce the news.

The name is probably inspired by the disposable red cups, which were also known as ‘solo cups’.

Hail, Caesar!’s Alden Ehrenreich will take on the role of Han Solo in the spin-off, Atlanta‘s Donald Glover will be playing Lando Calrissian. Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke and The Hunger Games’ Woody Harrelson who have recently joined the cast, however their roles remain unknown.

The movie, which is slated for 25 May, 2018 release will focus on Solo’s “early scoundrel days”. The title of the film is yet to be revealed as most of the Star Wars movies go under pseudo names during production, like The Last Jedi was being referred to as “Space Bears”.

Phil Lord would be co-directing the movie with Chris Miller.

In tandem, cloud services represent a $148 billion industry projected to grow 25 per cent annually.

Moreover, according to Cisco, motion imagery will be responsible for 82 per cent of all network traffic by 2020. Specifically, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are projected to represent a combined $120 billion revenue industry by 2020. Data-intensive industries, including film, television and gaming require quick sharing of massive files, heavy computation and petabytes (PB) of storage. To remain agile and competitive, access to turnkey cloud-based solutions that modernise the content creation processes will become increasingly critical.

Line producer and 30-year industry veteran Warren Carr added, “It is abundantly clear that we are facing a tsunami-sized wave of data and an unquenchable demand to store, protect, share and move it in massive volumes at greater speeds while being able to track and archive it almost at the particle level. StratusCore is tackling these issues head on with innovative solutions.”
