Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family — and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves — Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!”

Genius Brands International has promoted Stone Newman to president of Global Consumer Products, Worldwide Content Sales and Marketing. The announcement was made today by GBI’s chairman and CEO Andy Heyward, to whom Newman continues to report. This move has come with a view of the company’s continued growth in worldwide licensing, merchandising and retailing programs over the past two years.

In his new role, Newman, who joined GBI in 2014 as president of Global Consumer Products, will add oversight of the company’s global content distribution business for its flourishing catalog of animated properties, including SpacePOP, Llama Llama, Baby Genius, Secret Millionaires Club and Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab, as well as an all-new preschool property currently in development. Newman will also manage the worldwide rollout of the adult animated series, Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders. He will continue to oversee and manage all of GBI’s licensing, merchandising, retail and marketing efforts, including appointing and managing the company’s growing team of leading licensing agencies in key markets around the world.

Supporting Newman in his new role, GBI has named Jo Kavanagh-Payne senior VP of Global Distribution, spearheading the company’s worldwide content sales efforts. Kavanagh-Payne will drive GBI’s distribution business, identifying potential co-production partners and advising on the development of new and acquired properties for international and domestic distribution. In addition to her role at GBI, Kavanagh-Payne will continue to serve as CEO of Foothill Entertainment.

“Stone has been instrumental in driving GBI’s growth through unique and strategic initiatives, including pioneering the digital distribution strategy for the recent successful launch of SpacePOP,” states Heyward.  “His relationships, experience and knowledge of the global marketplace have been and continues to be tremendously beneficial, and I look forward to his contributions in realising the goals of both maximising the opportunities for our myriad brands and multiplying the properties under GBI’s umbrella. Jo will also be a tremendous asset in meeting these objectives, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the GBI executive team.”

Newman joined GBI from Art + Science International, a boutique licensing agency he founded. He is an accomplished entrepreneur who also founded and built Sababa Toys from a start-up into a $30MM toy and game manufacturer with product presence in more than 50,000 retail stores.  He also worked in marketing and licensing at Hasbro Toys.

Kavangh-Payne founded Foothill Entertainment with her husband, Gregory Payne, in September 2000. Prior to Foothill Entertainment, Kavanagh-Payne spent 16 years in international content distribution, handling all facets of sales as well as acquisitions and strategic planning for children’s and family programming. Originally based in London, Kavanagh-Payne moved to Los Angeles in 1995 to establish and supervise the US office for London’s Link Entertainment.

Providing animated content for toddlers, kids, teens and curious grown-ups, Appu Series is a major player in the digital space. With over 8 lakh subscribers, the YouTube channel APPUSERIES which was launched in April 2010 has surpassed a journey of grabbing attention worldwide to provide quality, informative and entertaining content. The journey has taken a leap as Appu Series has now ventured into the television space for the first time.

Appu Series hit the TV space from 5 September with its animated show Appu The Yogic Elephant which will continue to broadcast on POGO Monday to Friday at 3:30 pm. The series will comprise of 26 episodes of 11 minutes each. The series features Appu, a calf from a special tribe of elephants known to have yogic powers. Barely a few years old, he is already stronger than most grownups from his herd. His powers shine through the three dots on his forehead. Appu makes friends with Neena and her pet dog, Tiger. From there on starts a tale of adventure, friendship and courage.

Around eight seasons of the series have been produced which denote a blend of information and entertainment as Appu and his friends traverse through various adventures. The episodes being aired are in 3D and are created using Maya with a team of 60 artists working on it for the past 18 months.

Media Fusion, director, Sanjay Raheja said, “Prime time television was the only media where we did not have Appu Series content published until now. Our association with Pogo was pretty simple. We approached Turner with a proposal, and in a matter of few months we arrived at making a concrete deal.”

With over 8,000 videos on its YouTube channel, Appu Series is a major platform for learning through a fun filled way. Targeting the digital space with its addictive content, we can expect the series to perform well in the television space as well. As it is the festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi, Appu hitting the TV screens seems just a perfect timing to delight the audience with his powers.
