Internet search giants making self-driving cars appears to be a trend, and Russia’s Yandex wants in. It’s partnering with Daimler, truck maker Kamaz and government-backed researchers at NAMI on an autonomous shuttle bus that could carry up to 12 people and travel about 124 miles on a charge. Yandex is contributing its experiences with artificial intelligence, computer vision and voice recognition, and it’ll even be central to the interface — you’ll use a Yandex-linked mobile app to pinpoint your destination.
fost.org + Introducing the Future of StoryTelling Fesival: http://www.fostfest.com/ 2016 Future of Storytelling Speaker: Bjarke Pedersen LARPing expert & Creative Director, Odyssé Studies have shown that if a person changes their physicality or is given a means to behave differently, such as putting on a costume, they change their behavior automatically in response. This is what happens with live action role playing (LARPing), where people take on character roles and physically act them out in fictional settings. As the Creative Director of Odyssé and one of the world’s experts on LARPing, Bjarke Pedersen has spent many years exploring the power of this collaborative form of storytelling. He’s observed that by getting a chance to engage with different characters, LARPers are also able to learn more about themselves. LARPing is also particularly powerful for the ways in which it relies on building trust among people. Many individuals are able to tell their own stories within a given framework, but it is the larger output of so many different stories being told at the same time that makes LARPing so unique and powerful.

While Microsoft recently unveiled its upcoming console Project Scorpio and released Xbox One S, an upgraded version of Xbox One, Sony just kicked up its PlayStation game at an event at New York yesterday. The company announced two new consoles which are to be added to the PlayStation’s kitty.
First up is the slimmer version of PS4. This new model would not be an entirely new one and would sport the same configuration like the PS4 but it would be much smaller in size.
With a price tag of $299, the console will be available “in most markets” 15 September onwards. The console has also been embellished with an upgraded version of the Dualshock 4 controller. The news of this console was not perhaps the best kept secret as images of the console had leaked earlier over an online auction site and almost every enthusiast knew about it, this was just the official reveal from the creators. This version will likely be competing against Microsoft’s Xbox One S.
Next comes the biggest announcement, perhaps for which the community has been waiting for. While Sony had confirmed the console codenamed ‘Neo’ ahead of E3 this year, now the project has been revealed and it is called PS4 ‘Pro’. The new version sports better graphics, a faster processor and the most anticipated support for 4K resolution. However, it is important to note that the new console will not be replacing the regular PS4 instead it will be running alongside the base model with all new games being playable in the old hardware. The new console will have an 8 core AMD Jaguar as the main processor and an AMD Raedon based graphics card.
It was also revealed at the event that selected PS4 titles will have better graphical specs by which PS4 Pro users will be able to experience it at the best. Some titles include Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare: Remastered, Battlefield 1 and FIFA 16, Mass Effect: Andromed, Uncharted 4, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. PS4 Pro is priced at $399 and will roll out on 10 November this year.
Finally, we also know that YouTube and Netflix are also working upon new apps exclusively for PS4 Pro.
While Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio’s configurations seem really solid, it would be interesting to see how Sony’s new PS4 Pro goes up against it as previously Sony’s PS4 almost always dominated the Xbox in terms of popularity and revenue.

While mobile gaming is surging its way forward and has already claimed its spot as the most popular choice as compared to other modes like console and PC, it was the big titles of the gaming industry that the audience of mobile games missed out on.
Now it seems one of the most iconic character from the console genre is hopping its way into the mobile space. Yesterday’s iPhone event not only showcased the new iPhone 7 but it was also announced that one of Nintendo’s most beloved characters, Mario is coming over to iOS this December.
During iPhone’s event yesterday, creator of the Mario character, Shigeru Miyamoto, took the stage with Apple, CEO, Tim Cook and demonstrated the game titled Super Mario Run. The game showcases everyone’s favourite plumber running his way through a series of obstacles while collecting coins, to reach a flag point (Of course). At higher levels, players will be able to play against each other’s scores and apparently create their own ‘kingdom’.
Speaking about the game, Miyamoto said, “For the first time ever, players will be able to enjoy a full-fledged Super Mario game with just one hand, giving them the freedom to play while riding the subway or my favourite, eating a hamburger.”
With the news being out, a lot of people believe that this would be an instant hit like Pokemon Go, the game which Nintendo has shares in, jointly with The Pokemon Company. But unlike Pokemon Go, Super Mario Run would solely be Nintendo’s property and that is good news for the company in regards to revenue. Nintendo’s shares already spiked up by 18 per cent today, while taking a minor setback later.
Nintendo has been long focusing only on console gaming, but given the growth and opportunities that mobile gaming has brought with itself, the company tied up with mobile specialist DeNA. For Super Mario Run, Nintendo is heading the content part, while DeNA would be taking care of back-end operations. The initial phase of the game seems to be free for the users and they have to pay for additional content. It was also revealed that the game will have a set price and not solely rely on in-app purchases for revenues.
With this already on the line, can we expect other big titles from Nintendo into the mobile genre? (Zelda please!) Super Mario Run will be the second title from Nintendo after Miitomo and these are just two of the five mobile titles which Nintendo plans to launch by March 2017. Two other games, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are also reportedly in development.

Viacom18 Motion Pictures releases ‘Motu Patlu: King of Kings’ theatrical trailer
Posted in: AnimationIndian animation feature films hitting the theatres is always a pride to our nation. Recently, we heard that Motu Patlu would hit the big screens for the first time with their animated feature Motu Patlu: King of Kings on 14 October, 2016.
The anticipation for the movie was fulfilled to a certain extent with the trailer launch of the movie by actor Sushant Singh Rajput this morning at PVR, Juhu.
The opening sequence of the trailer grabs your attention as it opens a peaceful merry jungle scenario. But the joy is short lived as the peace of the jungle and its creatures is disrupted by a cruel villain who claims to be a hero.
The entry of the Lotpot comic magazine characters ‘Motu’ and ‘Patlu’ or rather the engaging background music during their entry entertains you. Running for their lives in their very own Furfuri Nagar, the duo encounter a lion who they eventually befriend.
The best part of the trailer is that it discloses a number of strings of the story. For example, it begins with a peaceful jungle, moves to the disruption then suddenly shifts to the characters with the lion’s backstory and finally comes back to the jungle leaving an unsolved mystery whether the lion will fight for his fellow animals and protect his jungle or remain a naive tamed circus puppet.
However despite all of these strings, the basic storyline of the movie is something which we have heard or seen in the past. A tale of protection of his own home, destruction of the jungle or a lion being a powerful fighter is not a whole new concept. But with the characters Motu and Patlu, probably we can expect a twist in the tale.
The animation in the opening scene looks quite pleasing as the waterfall and the birds add beauty to the whole setting. As the trailer progresses, some portions of animation may appeal only to kids and if the target audience is just kids then definitely this is in favour of the creators. All said and done, it is just a trailer so it is too early to judge for we never know how the movie might surprise us all just as the characters have done on the television space till date.
The highlight of the trailer is the music composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics penned by Gulzar. The movie is produced by Viacom 18 Media and Cosmos Entertainment and Maya Digital Studios. The creators of the movie are of the opinion that since the characters Motu and Patlu have a long standing resonance in various aspects like Comics, Broadcast, Games and Merchandising, both the young and old will strike a connection with the characters.
Directed by Suhas D Kadav with producers Ketan Mehta, Deepa Sahi and Anish JS Mehta, the story of the movie is written by Niraj Vikram, Suhas D Kadav and Dheeraj Berry. Motu Patlu: King of Kings will hit the screen on 14 October, 2016.

Maltesers Look on the Light Side
Posted in: AnimationChannel 4 is providing free airtime for “Look on the Light Side”, a campaign for Mars Chocolate UK brand Maltesers, in association with coverage of the 2016 Paralympics in Rio. The Maltesers Look on the Light Side campaign features actors with disabilities celebrating universally awkward situations, such as embarrassing moments with new boyfriends and bad behaviour at weddings. The 30-second scenes, “Theo’s Dog”, “Dance Floor” and “New Boyfriend”, are all based on real-life stories from people with disabilities and each features the actors interacting with a packet of Maltesers. The campaign, chosen from a 90 entries, was developed by AMV BBDO in association with disability advocacy agencies Scope and Enhance The UK.
In “New Boyfriend” our heroine (Storme Toolis) takes it in her stride when a romantic moment is interrupted by a spasm. In “Dance Floor” one guest (Samantha Renke) manages to look on the light side when wedding celebrations end in disaster. In “Theo’s Dog” a young woman (Genevieve Barr) uses sign language and Maltese’s to tell an amusing story about a missing hearing aid.
Michele Oliver, vice president of marketing at Mars Chocolate UK, said: “As one of the UK’s biggest advertisers, we have a responsibility and a role to play in reflecting diversity in everyday media. This is a first step for us.”
Channel 4 sales director Jonathan Allan added: “The calibre of competition entries demonstrated that the UK ad industry can be world-leading in improving representation of disability in advertising.”
A behind the scenes video explains that Maltesers partnered with Scope to produce the ad. Campaigns Manager Rosemary Frazer explains that roughly 20% of the population of the UK have a disability. Despite the large number, Frazer says they are invisible on TV. Michele Oliver, the VP of marketing for Mars chocolate says that the ad was inspired by the Paralympians. Richard Lane, the head of campaigns for Scope says the ad represents the reality of life for people with disabilities.
Earlier On The Light Side Ads
Four commercials, released in May 2016, introduced the “On The Light Side” concept. In “Leaving” our heroine (Beattie Edmondson) uses Maltesers to break some bad news to her boyfriend. In “Gran” a shoe shop assistant delivers some shocking news to her work mate. In “Necklace” two doctors take a lighter attitude to a disastrous wardrobe malfunction. In “Barney” we discover why the dog isn’t quite himself.
