This short documentary offers a visceral snapshot at how inmates survive solitary confinement. With rare access inside Pelican Bay State Prison, filmmaker Cali Bondad and reporter Gabrielle Canon captured a day-in-the-life inside one of the most notorious supermax prisons in the US. The film shows a cinematic glimpse of the personal anguish and monotony described by inmates living in long-term isolation. Ralph is all set to wreck the internet as Disney announces ‘Wreck-It Ralph 2’ movie
Posted in: AnimationDisney is known for creating magic on screen with their animated movies. Replete with valuable lessons and memorable characters, the features almost always etch a positive mark on the minds of the audience.
One of those movies was the 2012 feature ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ which penned a landmark garnering $49 million in revenues over its opening weekend, making it the largest opening weekend for any Walt Disney Animation Studios movie at that time.
Now, the sequel to this beloved movie has been officially announced. During a Facebook Live session, it was confirmed that the movie will hit theatres on 9 March, 2018 and the original team will be working for the sequel too. The protagonist Ralph will once again be voiced by John C. Reilly, who had previously revealed plans for the sequel and Sarah Silverman will be joining him in voicing his side-kick Vanellope von Schweetz.

The directors have also been roped in from the original title, Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, who have recently tasted immense success with Zootopia.
Further, we now know that this time Ralph will be venturing into the internet. Yes, into the enormous world of the web where possibilities are incessant. Johnston seems to think so too as his statement in the press release said, “The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope. The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”
Wreck-It Ralph grossed $471.2 million worldwide, out of which $189 was from North America making it the fourth highest grossing animated film of 2012. Given the fact that Disney has pushed Gigantic’s release from March to November shows that they might be working really hard on giving Ralph the power to wreck the internet this time. Let’s see how it goes!

Street Fighter 5: Take a look into the Story mode and cancelled characters from the game
Posted in: AnimationStreet Fighter 5 fans have been eagerly anticipating the story mode expansion and Capcom seems to have just given the players a treat with the trailer of “A Shadow Falls”, which will be coming for free.
The story mode portrays a story where all the fighters of the world unite in order to subdue the treacherous villain M. Bison and his villainous organisation Shadaloo’s plans to cripple the world by something they have created called the ‘Black Moon’. As Capcom explains, “Seven Black Moons are deployed by Shadaloo, granting M. Bison unimaginable power, as the earth falls into darkness.” These black moons seem to be some kind of electromagnetic pulses that are capable of bringing down entire cities, which gives unfathomable powers to M.Bison and Shadaloo. The company further reveals, “Seeing the moons mysteriously appear in the sky, Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li embark on an epic journey around the world to retrieve fragment pieces that are the key to stopping the Black Moons before it’s too late.”
Reportedly, in the story mode, a player will not be able to choose a specific character, but will be jumping to and forth between all the 16 original characters plus six of the DLC characters announced post release. The DLC along with the story mode will bring two new playable characters: Ibuki and Balrog. This leaves only two remaining characters, Juri and Urien, both of which will be present in the story mode.
The DLC update, 1.04 patch will bring the ingame store, from where game items can be purchased by real money via PlayStation Store or Steam. The patch also includes premium battle costumes for all 20 characters and Karin’s premium summer costume.
The new patch rolls in today, but before you go ahead and stop Shadaloo from bringing the world to its knees, take a look at some of the characters that were outright scrapped from the Street Fighter 5 rooster before they could see the light of the day. As Street Fighter 5, director, Takayuki Nakayama explains in the post, which was translated to English, some of the characters didn’t fit the bill and thus were cancelled, here’s a look at few of them:
A ‘Fighting Literary Master’: An old man who constantly grumbles to himself. The developers thought a pen is not mightier than a sword, in Street Fighter 5 at least.
A ‘Fighting President’: The idea apparently came to the developers while creating Street Fighter 4 too, but no luck for him either.
A ‘Clumsy Cutie’: So, she used tools to fight and her clothes get tattered while fighting, talk about being clumsy. The idea apparently came to mind while conceptualising Laura.
Miss Babo: She’s also the by-product of the Laura-conceptualisation, she even had a name!
A ‘Soccer Fighter’: Was too familiar to Roberto from Rival Schools, so didn’t make the cut.
The ‘Gen’s Disciple’: He is a disciple of Gen who learnt his Assassin’s Fist to carry on Gen’s legacy when he fell ill.
The Teacher: Thought about when conceptualising F.A.N.G, but apparently he was not evil enough.
The Prototype Shadaloo Soldier: Looks good, but not good enough for the game.
The DLC patch with all the content rolls in today. The game is currently available on PS4 and PC.

Review: The Legend of Tarzan- Lacks visual appeal to make you swing in the jungle
Posted in: AnimationThe Legend of Tarzan misses the emotional connect and the storytelling aura that the animated film of 1999 created by Disney possessed. It definitely takes you into the jungle but does not let you swing with the story. Ironically, as opposed to animation where there’s lot of freedom, live-action has many limitations. However, this venture of Warner Bros. fails to take the audience for a jungle ride both in terms of the CGI created animals and visual effects for various sequences. The limitations of curating action glory shots are not exploited and freedom to dramatise the story remains untouched.
The film opens in the 1884 era portraying the protagonist Tarzan played by Alexander Skarsgård as John Clayton III, a member of the House of Lords of the culturally rooted society of England. He is quite civilised and leads a normal married life with his wife Jane Porter played by Margot Robbie.
‘Home is where your heart is’. Just like a craving soul that longs to get drenched and return to the water body, Tarzan returns to his African Jungle to make things right. However, the crave is not felt and his return to the jungle is just like a normal retreat without much of an enthralling effect on the viewers.
As we all have at least a superficial idea about the story of Tarzan, this film follows a similar plot with Captain Léon Rom played by Christoph Waltz as the antagonist who intends to capture Tarzan for his greed and hurt the wild creatures. The antagonism doesn’t end there as the ferocious leader of an African tribe Chief Mbonga played by Djimon Hounsou also waits to take revenge from Tarzan due to the dark past incidents. However, George Washington Williams played by Samuel L. Jackson proves to be a helpful ally to the ape man and free the tribal folks too.
The film stands true to the basic concept of the ape man saving his terrestrial family from the greed of prosperous humans and the dominating love story of ‘Tarzan and Jane’. But amidst this basic message, to build up the story, the film also tries to convey a lot of developments that proceed parallelly which somewhere makes it lose the connection between Tarzan, his wild home and the essence of his relations with the gorillas. This lead to unfulfilled expectations of the viewers.
The CGI animals look out of place in various sequences like the ostriches running, the elephants strolling in the forest, the wild bulls charging, and the crocodiles entering the water. Even the paramount highlight of the story ‘Tarzan swinging on the trees’ looks unrealistic when the pace is increased. Also, the lighting at various instances doesn’t make the scene believable especially the sequence when the gorillas surround Mbonga’s men.
The classic fight between Tarzan and the gorilla is visually appealing as the might of the wild beast is felt immensely. It is a scene to be experienced in an IMAX. The visual effects are created by Framestore, MPC, Rising Sun Pictures, Lola Visual Effects, Method Studios and Rodeo FX. Despite so many famous studios involved, the final VFX and CGI has failed to enchant the viewers visually.
Directed by David Yates and written by Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, The Legend of Tarzan released on 1 July, 2016.
If you have been a Tarzan follower, there are always few highlights that you may like to watch out for – Tarzan swinging on the trees, beating his chests with the usual gorilla echo, rescuing Jane, romantic chemistry between the duo, living a life of fantasy in the jungle, standing in unison with his family of gorillas with a deep emotional connect and fighting to save the jungle and restore his home. The film displays few of these, mostly in flashbacks but misses on significant breathtaking moments. Probably, this is how the creators wanted the movie to pan out.
