Disney's The BFG – Official Trailer 2

Disney’s The BFG comes to theaters July 1, 2016!

The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg –finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.

DC Comics illustrator Darwyn Cooke passes away at the age of 53

The creative and illustrative force behind DC: The New Frontier series, Darwyn Cooke passed away early Saturday morning on 14 May, 2016.

The news comes just one day after Darwyn’s wife, Marsha Cooke posted on the artist’s blog that he was receiving palliative care following a bout with aggressive lung cancer.

The unfortunate news of his demise was stated by his family in a statement on the artist’s blog saying- “We regret to inform you that Darwyn lost his battle with cancer early this morning.” It further mentioned, “He was filled with your love and surrounded by friends and family at his home in Florida… Please continue to respect our privacy as we go through this very difficult time.”

Darwyn Cooke

Born in 1962, Cooke published his first comics as a professional comic artist in 1985, but given the economic consequences, he kept it on a halt. Eventually, during 1990s he was roped in by Warner Bros. Animation for the role of a story board artist on Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series.

He was the talent behind the retro and chic look of DC’s superheroes, including a revamp of ‘Catwoman’ with Ed Brubaker. In 1999, he animated the main title design of Batman Beyond. Also, after the success of Batman: Ego, a graphic novel published in 2000 he took to more projects such as  X-ForceWolverine/Doop and Spider-Man’s Tangled Web for Marvel Comics and Just Imagine… for DC.

DC Comics paid a touching tribute to the late maestro through their blog. An extract from the statement read:

“An Eisner-award winning artist and accomplished writer, Darwyn has been a much-loved and respected member of the comics community. He lent his signature retro style to all corners of the DC Universe, from Jonah Hex to Before Watchmen to Vertigo Comic’s The Twilight Children and, of course, his master work, DC: The New Frontier. His bold, direct style, often compared to the works of Joe Kubert, Alex Toth and Jack Kirby, reflected his down to earth, no nonsense personality. Darwyn Cooke always claimed that he was a lucky man to have such a wonderful family, friends, and such a wonderful life. He lived that life with the same brilliance and fearlessness that so permeated his work. And for those of us who knew this one-of-a-kind and genuine soul, we were lucky as well.”

Nintendo plans to release films based on its characters within the next 5 years

Nintendo, the Japanese multinational videogame company, is in tie-up talks with multiple production companies throughout the world to enter the movie business. The gaming giant is in negotiations with movie-production companies to create films featuring some of its popular game characters.

According to an interview in Asahi Shimbun paper, Nintendo, CEO and president, Tatsumi Kimishima mentioned that the company needed to invest in video production and aimed to be successful on a global scale. Discussions appear to be in the early stages, but Kimishima wants films to be produced in five years from now.

Nintendo characters in movies is not a new ball game as the company has already allowed film companies to use its characters through licensing agreements in the past. Super Mario Bros., the 1993 live-action film was based on Nintendo’s popular character while the Pokemon franchise also contained the game characters which were then used in theatrical animated films.

When asked whether Nintendo would use Zelda or Mario in upcoming movies, Kimishima said, “We’d like to use IP that is popular with everyone. I can’t say ‘it’ll be Mario’ — just that we’ll do things that people will be familiar with.” Moreover this time, Nintendo would like to do things itself as much as possible, rather than just licensing out its content.

Nintendo does not have just Japan but the United States and the rest of the world market in mind, and is therefore looking at expanding its foot by imprinting an image of its characters through the movie business. The company is looking not just into movies, but also into selling projects on home video throughout the world.

Highlight PR to bat for CAKE, Cheeky Little Media and Mighty Nice at ‘Bottersnikes & Gumbles’ launch

Kids’ entertainment specialist CAKE and Australian production outfits Cheeky Little Media and Mighty Nice have appointed Bath-based Highlight PR to manage PR and social media for the UK launch of the award-winning children’s TV series, Bottersnikes & Gumbles, which is set to air on CBBC this July.

Highlight’s role will be to drive tune-in to the show via consumer press coverage and social media, as well as securing media and blogger attendance at an exclusive screening event in London.

Based on Australian storybooks written in the 1970s, Bottersnikes & Gumbles follows the adventures of three Gumble heroes, Tink, Bounce and Willi, who can squash and stretch into any imaginable shape without being hurt. They love nothing better than to ‘gumble’ all day long, which means crazy, stretchy capers around their junk valley while carefully avoiding getting tin-canned by their stinky, grumpy, lazy neighbours, the Bottersnikes. This new 3D animation series comprising of 52 episodes of 11 minutes is aimed at 6 to 9 year olds.

Bottersnikes & Gumbles
Bottersnikes & Gumbles is coproduced by CBBC in the UK and Seven Network in Australia and is also a NETFLIX global original title. The series won this year’s coveted Pulcinella Award for Best Kids TV Series at the prestigious international animation festival ‘Cartoons on the Bay’ in Venice. The series was also nominated for a Logie Award in Australia for Most Outstanding Children’s Programme.

CAKE, CCO & MD, Edward Galton said, “We were hugely impressed with Highlight’s proposal for Bottersnikes & Gumbles and are really looking forward to working with them on what promises to be an exciting launch in the UK.”

Highlight PR, director, Alison Vellacott commented, “Bottersnikes & Gumbles is a brilliant show based on a classic storybook, full of energy and laughs. We’re relishing working with CAKE and their partners to maximise every PR opportunity around the launch of this fast-moving show.”

SPCA Tarot Cards – Voice for a Future

Each year, hundreds of animals are abandoned at the Geneva SPCA. Staff there believe that even if these animals have a past, they also have a future. So they asked people who have adopted at the shelter to send them pictures with their pets. Three of them have embodied the voice of the Geneva SPCA in their 2015 campaign based on tarot cards. Tarot cards for happiness, affection and friendship were associated with adopting a dog, a cat or a rabbit. People spontaneously attached very moving testimonies with their pictures. These stories are now featured on the shelter’s website as proof of the success of adoption to convince the undecided that this is the right choice. “Minnie and Choupette had a past. Rafael gave them a future”. “Marley had a past. Joseph gave him a future.” “Gribouille had a past. Danielle gave him a future”. The new SPCA Tarot cards feature fulfilment (rabbits), trust (dog) and serenity (cat).

Moments of Puglia

They don’t call Italy “Il bel paese” – “The beautiful country” – for nothing, and it’s no coincidence. For my next project I decided once again to pay homage to my homeland, a place that always leaves an impression on my heart, the southern region of Puglia. There is a list called “1,000 Places To See Before You Die”. Casting a glance over it, one will notice that Italy – and Puglia in particular – boasts an enviable number of locations. With numerous UNESCO sites, pristine beaches, and enchanting destinations, it was difficult to restrict such beauty into a 2 minute video. But here it is anyway, a small taste of what this amazing region has to offer. I’m sure you’ll add it to your own list of 1000 places to see before you die! Portrait of India

Just imagine, that everything around is made for you. All these people, nature, cities are for you. The thin threads of this massive web are weaved in such way, that it reacts to all your actions and thoughts. Live for this world! Create, change, and rejoice. Don’t lie to yourself and don’t create illusions. Recall your dreams and the world, which you create in them. Are you living in lies and illusions too? Even there you are trying to seem or you are the one, who you want to be? Soak yourself in the feeling that everything is created for you. No doubts, you will begin changing for the better. Somebody has created for you the whole world with his beauty and features. And all what you are doing – is sitting in one place and keeping an anchor instead of sails. Why? What are you afraid of in the world, which has sparked a life and a mind in you? Be on fire! Light up. Don’t burn out. And everything that exists for you – will reciprocate. antonisaev.com
