Craving behind the scenes?

Screen Shot 2016-05-11 at 15.49.19

Sometimes I will watch a film or see a game and really, really want to know what work went on behind the scenes. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to have covered the film or game, sometimes there’s a great making of book. But often there isn’t. Enter: Craft, a new site that’s looking to show tons and tons of behind the scenes materials for animated films and games.

Rather than talk about what’s in Craft, why not head on over and get a taste of the materials. It’s definitely early days, but no doubt animation lovers will get a thrill from what’s on offer there – pics, videos, sketches, early animation. There’s also a bunch of subscription levels and pricing plans. Again, worth checking out.

DC Comics’ new logo draws inspiration from its previous one

DC Comics seems to have definite plans for its future as the company has just revealed its brand new logo. Number 11 in the series since the initiation, the new logo looks to have drawn attention from its former ones, which were in place during the 70s.

The new logo will replace the current so called ‘peel’ logo that was implemented in 2012 and encapsulated the essence of old legacy and new possibilities with a peeling effect covering the initials D and C.

So, what is the new logo all about?

In a statement while talking about the new logo, DC Entertainment, senior vice president of marketing and global franchise management, Amit Desai said, “While comics continue to be the heart and soul of DC, the brand has evolved to now stand for powerful storytelling across so many different forms of media. DC is home to the greatest Super Heroes and Super-Villains, and the new logo has the character and strength to stand proudly alongside DC’s iconic symbols.”

The move definitely points strongly at the fact that, despite of its legacy in comics, DC doesn’t want to be known limitedly in regards to that specific category. The new logo has already taken its place over their online publications and social media pages; comics and toys are likely to follow suit.

The logo will be published with DC Universe: Rebirth  that is scheduled to be released on 25 May, 2016.

Disney reveals new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s take on Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG’

‘The BFG’ or the big friendly giant is a character from the novel of the same name written by Roald Dahl. Now, the movie is being transformed into a full length film by Disney and Steven Spielberg. It will be Spielberg’s first directorial venture with Disney.

The BFG, which received a standing ovation from the audience at its premiere at Cannes this year, has recently dropped their second trailer, after a formerly released trailer and a teaser.

The trailer begins with the little girl, Sophie played by Ruby Barnhill, begging, “Please don’t eat me!” after she is snatched from her orphanage. The giant played by Academy Award winner Mark Rylance, reverts to it by revealing that he is indeed a vegetarian and that says, “You think because I’m a giant that I’m a man-gobbling cannibal?”

Although the main chunk of the trailer is set in the giant country, where he roams through the countryside and develops a soft spot for Sophie, he gets picked on by other giants who are almost twice his size and gobble down people as food all the time. Finally, the titular character admits that he is scared, but Sophie seems not to give up and asserts, “I’m not”, hinting that she has a plan.

The movie is being financed jointly by Walden Media along with Disney. Late Melissa Mathison has etched the screenplay and it is set to release in the US on 1 July.

Till then, here’s a look at the recently released poster for the film:the-bfg-poster

Apple announces new iOS app development accelerator in Bengaluru

After announcing a development centre in Hyderabad, tech giant Apple will set up an app design and development centre in Bengaluru to support developers in India creating innovative mobile apps for its iOS platform.

The announcement is the part of Apple chief Tim Cook’s visit to India.  As part of his visit, Cook is expected to meet government officials and key industry executives from telecom firms to discuss matters like manufacturing and expansion of network in the country. The Apple CEO’s visit comes at a crucial time when the US-based firm is focusing on new growth markets like India after posting its first-ever decline in iPhone sales.

TimCook“The company will establish a design and development accelerator in Bengaluru, the home of India’s startup scene. Tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS (foundation for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch). This initiative will provide additional, specialised support for them,” Apple said in a statement.

The company, however, did not disclose the investments for the initiative. The centre is expected to open in early 2017.

The facility will also provide support and guidance on Swift, Apple’s intuitive programming language created to build apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch. Each week, Apple experts will lead briefings and provide one-on-one app reviews for developers. Apple’s team will work with developers on best practices, help them hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, it added

“India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world. With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we are giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world,” Cook said.

New Ghostbusters movie trailer: Countless ghosts rampage the city, including Slimer

As the release date of the new Ghostbusters movie arrives closer, Sony seems to have plans of keeping the spectators on the hook and excited for the film. They have just dropped a new trailer of the film, which actually seems better than the last one.

The new trailer takes us to the heart of New York City which is being ravaged by paranormal entities and it seems “someone is creating a device that amplifies paranormal activity” and thus the all-female team of ghost busters, played by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon get into action. In a scene, while connecting to what seems like a harmless spirit, Wiig takes a drench in ghost vomit as the seemingly harmless spirit goes hostile.

The Paul Feig movie trailer also features Chris Hemsworth as a sort of an assistant to the team of ghostbusters, who eventually gets possessed by a ghost and turns hostile as well. We also saw glimpses of Slimer who is already known figure to the spectators, owing to the original film from 1984.

The humour is pretty standard and nothing extra ordinary, but it would be too soon to judge, just from the trailer. The ambience looks action filled with (colourful) ghosts flying around and disrupting activities. We will have to wait and watch how the team of Ghostbusters fend off the fiends and restore peace, while having a little fun of their own.

The movie is slated to release on 15 July, 2016 this year.

Co-directed by Gal Muggia and Vania Heymann, the music video is laden with visual effects playing with the perceptions of up and down, mixing underwater, ground and sky scenes. The music video has already had more than 4.9 million views on YouTube since its release on May 16, with 3.3 million views in the first 24 hours.

Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia commented: “All we can say is that it was a great honor and pleasure to create this video for Coldplay. On paper this concept felt abstract and unclear, so we would like to thank Coldplay for believing in our vision and running with it. We would really like to thank all of the wonderful and talented people who have worked so hard throughout this long journey. We were inspired by many collage artists, past and present. Hopefully the images do the rest of the talking.”

Coldplay Up&Up Lyrics

Fixing up a car to drive in it again
Searching for the water hoping for the rain
Up and up, up and up
Down upon the canvas, working meal to meal
Waiting for a chance to pick your orange field
Up and up, up and up
See a pearl form, a diamond in the rough
See a bird soaring high above the flood
It’s in your blood, it’s in your blood
Underneath the storm an umbrella is saying
Sitting with the poison takes away the pain
Up and up, up and up it’s saying

(Chorus)
We’re going to get it get it together right now
Going to get it get it together somehow
Going to get it get it together and flower
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
We’re going to get it get it together I know
Going to get it get it together and flow
Going to get it get it together and go
Up and up and up

Lying in the gutter, aiming for the moon
Trying to empty out the ocean with a spoon
Up and up, up and up
How come people suffer how come people part?
How come people struggle how come people break your heart?
Break your heart
Yes I want to grow yes I want to feel
Yes I want to know show me how to heal it up
Heal it up
See the forest there in every seed
Angels in the marble waiting to be freed
Just need love just need love
When the going is rough saying

Chorus

And you can say what is, or fight for it
Close your mind or take a risk
You can say it’s mine and clench your fist
or see each sunrise as a gift

Chorus

oh-oh oh, oh-oh oh oh oh oh

Fixing up a car to drive in it again
When you’re in pain
When you think you’ve had enough
Don’t ever give up
Don’t ever give up
