Bookcase tetris

So, after my boyfriend proposed to me using our bookshelf, he decided to do tetris.

It actually works, even on a 14×9 squares-grid. And yes, it’s totally playable.

You can see him proposing by having me play Snake on the shelf here: https://youtu.be/r0R5i4t3Oho

So, this is how my boyfriend proposed to me.

How to get through to my heart? Build me a 4x5m bookshelf, install LEDs, make a playable snake all over our livingroom wall.

…I said yes.

‘Rise of Iron'; Poster of Destiny’s possible upcoming expansion leaked

We are almost approaching June, the month of Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) where developers showcase and reveal their upcoming projects.
But many a time we have come across spoilers and leaks before the scheduled plans of the developers. Such an event has come to light recently as marketing materials from what looks like a poster expansion of Destiny has been leaked on Reddit. While there is still a lot of scepticism about the poster, sources close to Kotaku has apparently vouched for its authenticity. Here’s the look at it:

Destiny.

The poster named Destiny: Rise of Iron does not reveal anything much about the content. It features Lord Saladin donning a cape and standing resolute on a defensive position, while wielding a blazing double sided axe. The location seems to be one of the walls surrounding the Final City. Some wolves (three to be exact) are seen placed around Lord Saladin as if they’re a part of the defence from what’s coming.

Rise of Iron is reportedly to be a bigger version than two of its year-one expansions, House of Wolves and The Dark Below. It can also be a possibility that the expansion will go by its name and deal with the original Iron Lords, Skorri, Radeghast, Timur, Felwinter, Jolder, Gheleon, Silimar, Efrideet, and Perun, after whom weapons and artifacts have been named in the game. The DLC will also reportedly feature a new raid.

The speculations can be endless; we might just have to wait for E3, to hear something concrete from Bungie and Activision, as the sequel to the game has been postponed to 2017 instead of 2016.

Green Gold’s Rajiv Chilaka to be honoured by Academy of Art University for his contribution to Indian animation

Academy of Art University, president, Dr. Elisa Stephens will honour alumnus Rajiv Chilaka of Green Gold Animation, based in Hyderabad, India. Chilaka, known as “the animation poster boy of India,” has been acclaimed for his ground-breaking contribution to the Indian animation industry. India, with a population of 1.3 billion, includes 50 per cent of that number under the age of 25, resulting in a large audience, ripe for Chilaka’s appealing cartoon characters.

As an honoured guest of the Academy, Chilaka will attend the University’s annual Spring Show on 23 May, 2016 to review Animation students’ work. He will also interview candidates interested in joining Green Gold Animation, the animation studio best known for Chilaka’s famed character, Chhota Bheem.

chhota bheemLaunched in 2008, Bheem is the most popular character to come out of the “Green Gold” stable. Bheem was created because, “There weren’t many Indian cartoons that catered to the Indian audience below the age of 14 years, so we decided to come up with an ideal character that could teach good values to children,” says Chilaka. The loveable character Bheem, watched by an average 40 million children weekly, appeals to young and old alike, with some of the highest consistent television ratings across India.

Chilaka credits his success to his time at Academy of Art University. He was inspired by Walt Disney’s success, even visiting the places in Kansas City where Disney used to live and work. Chilaka returned to India in 2000 to realise his dream. Currently, his studio employs over 400 animators and has created a franchise of 25 Green Gold retail stores across India. Popular branded products include “tiffin” lunch boxes, toys, water bottles, and food products, such as fruit drinks and wafers—all sporting the series’ characters.

“Rajiv Chilaka’s astounding journey from the Academy’s animation classes in San Francisco to his own powerhouse in India has illustrated what many of our students and graduates experience here,” Dr. Stephens remarked. “Learning new disciplines across the art and design world is empowering, and great goals are not insurmountable; dreamers like Rajiv can achieve anything, irrespective of hurdles or challenges.”

While in San Francisco, Chilaka will look forward to share Green Gold Animation’s most recent animation reels, including scenes from the January film release of Chhota Bheem Himalayan Adventure.

Now, the company has announced that it will be venturing into China for the very first time. China has a large population of PC gamers and arguably the biggest gaming market throughout the globe. In a blog post on their website, Mojang announced that they will be licensing the rights to both the PC and mobile version of Minecraft to NetEase, which also manages some of the other western developed games in China, like Hearthstone and the renowned MMORPG game World of Warcraft.

Famed for selling over 100 million units of their sandbox game Minecraft, Mojang will fabricate an exclusive Chinese version to cater the gaming enthusiasts of the country and release it in collaboration with NetEase.

Minecraft
“We’ll always embrace opportunities to bring Minecraft to new players around the world, widening our community, and giving us a new perspective on our game,” said Mojang, CEO, Jonas Martensson, in his statement on the company’s blog. “NetEase understand our long-term vision for Minecraft and support Mojang’s ideals, so we’re delighted to have them on board. McWhopper for Peace Day

Burger King’s McWhopper campaign, an experiment in peace making, has been awarded the Grand Prize for Avant Garde at the New York Festivals International Advertising Awards, and Yellow Pencils at the D&AD Awards. Burger King called for a ‘burger wars ceasefire’ with their longstanding rival McDonald’s, proposing that on Peace Day, 21st September, 2015, the two restaurants set aside their differences and join forces to cook and serve the ‘McWhopper’ – a peace-loving burger that combines all the tastiest ingredients from the McDonald’s Big Mac and the Burger King Whopper. The campaign was launched with a full-page open letter from Burger King to McDonald’s appearing in the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. The letter extends a friendly, no-strings invitation to McDonald’s to participate in the project, and invites them to visit mcwhopper.com to view the full Burger King peace proposal and everything from packaging suggestions to recipe ideas. The project included a pop-up McWhopper restaurant in Atlanta, the halfway point between Burger King’s Miami HQ and McDonald’s HQ in Chicago. Burger King’s ‘McWhopper’ peace proposal campaign was rolled out in the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and New Zealand. The Facebook response from McDonalds CEO Steve Easterbrook, however, was disappointing. Instead, Burger King ended up launching the Peace Day Burger for one day in collaboration with Denny’s, Wayback Burgers, Krystal, and Giraffes USA.

The Peace Day Burger combined ingredients from the restaurants’ signature sandwiches into one delicious, peace-loving burger. This culinary mash-up contained parts of Denny’s Bacon Slamburger, Wayback’s Wayback Classic, Krystal’s Cheese Krystal, Giraffas’ Brutus and Burger King’s Whopper sandwiches.

Peace Day Burger

“Since the beginning, the main objective of this initiative was to raise awareness of Peace Day. We are really proud to be part of the Peace One Day corporate coalition and to see that the awareness of Peace Day in the US is almost five times higher among those who saw this campaign than those who were not aware of it,” said Fernando Machado, Senior Vice President for Global Brand Management at Burger King Corporation. “We were overwhelmed by the goodwill of our fellow restaurateurs, and believe that working with them to create this once-in-a-lifetime burger is a beautiful twist of fate.”

“As far as McDonald’s goes, any activity they undertake, whether in partnership with Burger King or on their own, would be incredible, as it will raise further awareness for Peace Day,” Machado goes on to say. “And inadvertently, the McWhopper has 100% become a reality for some. The public wholeheartedly embraced the campaign and thousands of DIY McWhoppers have been created, reviewed, and shared on social media.”
