4K Media expands international streaming media partnerships for the ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ franchise

4K Media, the Konami Digital Entertainment, subsidiary that manages the licensing and marketing of the Yu-Gi-Oh! brand, and its distribution partner Cinedigm have announced that the brand has added a number of  SVOD/VOD partners in Europe to its already impressive roster of global digital partnerships. Among 4K Media’s latest digital media distribution agreements are:

Germany:

236 German-language episodes of the complete series Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters and 155 German-language episodes of the complete series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, in cooperation with the German distribution partner KSM GmbH, have been licensed to RTL networks’ German online portal ClipFish, Maxdome, the SVOD platform owned by Prosieben Sat 1. Media and My Video, one of Germany’s most popular online video destinations, also owned by Prosieben Sat 1. Media.

Italy:

TIM will be offering its TIMvision’s subscribers all 49 episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Season 1, the latest series from the franchise.

Multi-Territory Agreements:

Crunchyroll, the U.S. based international online community focused on streaming Asian media with a special emphasis on anime and manga, has expanded its worldwide (outside of Asia) distribution arrangement with 4K Media with the addition of the original, uncut Japanese-language versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX series with English subtitles.

4K Media joins leading Hollywood studios in partnering with Tubi TV, the world’s largest and fastest-growing — free and legal — video app on Connected TV devices, Mobile, and the Web. The free, video-on-demand service has licensed 154 original and uncut episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s with English subtitles, as well as 123 English-language episodes of the series.

In commenting on the digital distribution partnerships, 4K Media, Digital Operations senior VP, Mark Kirk said, “We’re thrilled to have episodes of the various Yu-Gi-Oh! series available to fans throughout the world. 4K Media has been embracing digital media platforms as a viable method for distributing content for over a decade and will continue to do so as the numbers of fans accessing the vast Yu-Gi-Oh! library of episodes online and on mobile devices validates that decision.”

This latest round of digital distribution agreements expands 4K Media’s vast number of existing streaming partnerships for the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, including Hulu (US), Netflix (multi-territory), ClaroVideo (Latin America) and TV4 (Sweden), among others.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! animated franchise, with over 700 episodes available in up to 15 local languages, consists of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL and the newest installment, Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, as well as the highly popular Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, video games, licensed product and feature films.

DreamWorks Animation appoints Paramount exec as Head of Development

DreamWorks Animation has appointed Paramount’s Head of Comedy Jennifer Howell as the company’s new Head of Development. Howell will replace Gregg Taylor and will report to Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria.

DreamWorks_AnimationProducing duties for DreamWorks animated musical film Larrikins which has an expected release date in 2018. Taylor oversaw the development of both Trolls and The Boss Baby during his five year tenure and also served as the production executive on How to Train Your Dragon.

With a well grounded animation background, Jennifer Howell brings a treasure of experience to DreamWorks Animation. She previously ran 20th Century Fox Television’s animation department, and served as EVP at Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s film company Important Studios.

She was a supervising producer for the famous animated series South Park and served as a producer for 10 years on that show.

During her nearly two years at Paramount, Howell also set up several comedies such as Soapdish, Grease: Live, First Wives Club, Kid Boss, Bajillion Dollar Brokers and School of Rock.

Disney’s feature films from 2016 to stream on the popular VOD channel Netflix

In 2015, the leading video on demand service Neflix had announced that it will be launching on 31 March in Australia and New Zealand along with a lineup of several Disney shows. Now, following up with their massive deal with Disney that fell way back in 2012, Netflix announced that starting September, it will stream all Disney films.

ZootopiaAlong with Disney films, Netflix will also get the permission to stream Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm titles as they are owned by Disney. These films will also be made available on other paid TV networks but later on. However, that’s still after the Blu-ray and digital releases, but it’s sooner than the long and often unpredictable wait that Netflix customers had to put up with before. The movies that are included in the agreement are the ones that Disney has released theatrically in 2016 and beyond, for which Netflix is reportedly paying hundreds of millions per year.

The deal is a double win for Netflix – it blocks subscription networks like HBO and Starz from showing the hits exclusively, but also keeps them off Amazon Prime, Hulu, and other streaming services.  

Netflix shares its excitement on their new blog post, “From September onwards, Netflix will become the exclusive US pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar,” said Netflix’s content boss, Ted Sarandos.

Netflix also revealed several other titles which will be live on the service June onwards, including Spotlight, The Little Prince (a stunning animated film based on the beloved children’s book), The Fast and The Furious.

With Disney’s recent releases coming into the picture, Netflix is bound to give a tough time to it’s competing pay TV channels not only because of the varied content but also because of its exclusive availability on Netflix.

Witness the fairly tale with Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ teaser

A fairy tale which has neither boundaries of time nor distance; a love story that resonates in everyone’s mind and soul reverberating the essence of a heart touching drama Beauty and the Beast is a story par excellence.

After Disney’s 1991 animated musical version of the Beauty and the Beast, now it is time for a complete live action feature of the same. Walt Disney Studios is coming up with a 3D live action musical revamp of Beauty and the Beast which is set for 17 March, 2017 release.

Enter the castle of the beast is what Disney aims to do with its recent teaser as it features a dark castle on a frosty night. The glimpse of the lavish yet sinister castle of the beast attracts you as well as sends a subtle thrill down the spine as if it is a deserted lonely place.

‘Secrecy and suspense’ has been maintained throughout as revelations are miniscule but increase the curiosity of the viewers. Whispers about the Beauty ‘Belle’ played by Emma Watson run in the background as a glimpse of Watson is shown as she lands at the castle.

The most important factor of the entire tale- The Mysterious Rose is focussed on thoroughly as the entire story revolves around it. In fact, the teaser ends with no glimpse of the beast played by Dan Stevens but just a rose petal falling calmly with an invitation claiming ‘Be Our Guest’.

The visual effects created by Digital Domain, Framestore and Method Studios portray a neat work of creation of the castle at least till now. The sequence of light entering the room and the radiating candle light proclaim a feeling of the enriching fairy tale. However, the beast is the central character that everybody is eyeing for. Whether he will be created using animation or VFX, prosthetics or just live costume design is a mystery that will unfold as the tale progresses.

‘Music is what feelings sound like’ and this teaser takes the stride with its soothing background score that transcends the viewers into a distinct broadway universe. The teaser ends on a simple subtle tone creating an aura of feel good factor apart from just the excitement and curiosity.

Directed by Bill Condon and written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and Stephen Chbosky, the film stars a cast including Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Audra McDonald, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson along with the above two lead characters.

Beauty and the Beast is a tale that is known by everyone and anyone. It has an instant resonance and deep connection with audience across the globe. The challenge for Disney lies in retelling this story in an effective way which may please the audience as well as live upto the standards of the romantic fairy tale. And as it is live action, the challenges increase and freedom reduces as compared to the medium of animation.

Comic Republic plans to launch new comic book ‘Visionary’

The Nigerian comics startup based in Lagos, Comic Republic that aims to raise funds to support the dream through sponsorship and advertising from multinationals and NGOs have so far released Guardian Prime, ERU, Avonome, Hero Gen, Ireti, Generation, Aje and Vanguards.

Last month, since Nigeria has an ongoing fuel crisis which has crippled the economy and led to long queues on the streets, Comic Republic decided to influence people to be in control of the situation and this they did with their superhero story – Might of Guardian Prime.

And now, here’s what’s more in store from Comic Republic:

​Story of the African superhero comic book Aje concludes this season as the second issue introduces you to captivating scenery in Lagos Nigeria, some culture and a little about her mysterious family.

Next in line, Comic Republic plans to launch comic books on Nigeria’s Children’s Day 27 May. They will be releasing a one shot comic book called Hero Kekere (meaning little heroes in Yoruba Language). This episode will be focused on bullying and what children can do when they are faced with such a situation.

Also for the kids, their new acquisition – Uhuru-Legend of the wind riders will be released in English and French this quarter.

Along with these, Comic Republic plans to launch a new comic book called Visionary that will be focused on the African gods out this quarter.

Thomas Cook Cats on a Plane

Thomas Cook Airline has launched #CatsOnAPlane, a campaign featuring a team of furry testers trying out Thomas Cook Airline’s newly refurbished fleet. The animals were used to test the interiors of both Thomas Cook Airlines’ planes and those from sister airline, Condor, playing on the perception of them being creatures of comfort. The filming involved a 24-hour shoot with 10 cats – each with their own distinct personality – on an Airbus A330 and Boeing 767 at Manchester airport. Each short video features the cats exploring different areas of the planes, including Premium Economy for Thomas Cook Airlines UK and Business Class for Condor. The Thomas Cook Cats on a Plane campaign is designed to highlight the airline’s belief that customers “deserve better” when flying on their hard-earned holidays.

To ensure no cats came to harm on the shoot, vet Aniket Sardana was onsite for the full duration of filming.

Speaking of the campaign, Senior Group Marketing Manager at Thomas Cook Airlines, Tom Morey said: “No-one can assess comfort like a cat. They’re the hardest customers to please, which is why we wanted to test our new interiors with the best. And the results left the cautious kitties feline great.”

Discussing the launch, Catch’s Creative Director, Sam Chatwin added: “Cats are the undisputed champions of the internet. They’re fussy, demanding and know exactly what they want. What better way to put the airline’s service to the test. We love working with the team at Thomas Cook Airlines, they’re fearless and you can’t ask for more than that in a client.”
