Marina Abramović: Advice to the Young

Follow your intuition. Have courage. Do what you imagine. And always be completely present in the moment. Marina Abramović on what it really means to be an artist: “A great artist has to be ready to fail.”

Meet the charismatic performance artist Marina Abramović in this interview on what it means to be an artist, waking up each morning with an urge to be creative.

Abramović says that the most courageous act in the history of mankind was Christopher Columbus discovering America, which was in fact a mistake, since they went into the unknown believing they would reach India. She also explains how the best advice she received as a student was to never allow things to become routine.

A good artist will have one really good idea in their life, while a brilliant artist may have two, so one has to be careful with the ideas, Abramović says. She explains that she always does the work she is most afraid of, which is most different to what she has done before. Finally Abramović adds that the performing artist has to be completely present in the moment, and cannot be thinking of the next step. You have to follow intuition, have courage and do what you imagine.

Marina Abramović (1946) became world famous after her retrospective ‘The Artist is Present’ at MoMA in 2010, which was followed by a documentary film premiering in 2013. Abramović began her career in the early 1970s and has recently begun to describe herself as the ‘grandmother of performance art’. Abramović’s work explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body and the possibilities of the mind. To Ambramovic the purpose of art is the transformation of the artist and of the viewer.

Marina Abramovic was interviewed by Christian Lund in New York, September 2013.

Can ‘E3 Live’ rejuvenate the grand event of Electronic Entertainment Expo?

The Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 is right around the corner and the excitement is on the surge but this time probably for a different reason.

For the past two decades, at E3 we have observed countless exclusive game announcements, with the brightest of names from the gaming industry taking part in it. The event is open to journalists and people from the gaming industry exclusively. But it seems that this year, the Entertainment Software Association is turning around the style with its ‘E3 Live’.

E3 Live would be a side-show for the general masses. Around 20,000 people are expected to show up and the tickets are absolutely free with a first come, first serve basis and are reportedly all sold out. It will not be held at the same venue as E3, but next door at the LA Live Event Center and  the attendees will get to try their hands on brand new gadgets, hear about latest releases and much more, everything firsthand.

E3
But what can be the reason behind this sudden move by E3?

In the age of internet, where digital release is a real thing and with websites like twitch delivering gameplay videos live with streamers describing pretty much everything, big companies might not consider waiting for June for an event to reveal any big news.

Already many companies have retracted from the event. Nintendo has not done a proper conference in the E3 for a fair time now, they play pre-streamed videos in the event and this year they will be doing the same with info about the new Legend of Zelda game, and NX maybe?
Even Activision Blizzard will not have a booth for the first time at E3 this year.

Another factor is, these events are actually for the gamers and fans, if they get to try out something firsthand, it can always be beneficial for the companies. Electronic Arts is likely to host EA Play, which promises to include the consumers as well. Although it cannot be compared in proper terms, PAX receives a lot of attention and love from its fans, because they get to indulge and be a part of the event.

Maybe this is the trend that is needed for Entertainment Software Association to once again attract more eyeballs and stay in the league. Let’s hope E3 Live comes as a refreshment to everyone as its set to take place from 14 to 16 June, 2016.

New characters and plot revelations feature in the recent ‘Finding Dory’ trailer

If you only know how tough the struggle is going to be, then you fear it. But, if you go out with a passion to accomplish your goal irrespective of the tonnes of milestones that you would have to face then the struggle makes sense and the mission seems to be worth it.

Friends, family, acquaintances portraying emotions and inspiration is what Finding Dory’s latest trailer is all about. A thorough mission of searching her own family, battle for survival and escape through unexpected hardships to reunite with her own folks, Dory takes up the risk to locate her family in the big wide world both above and under the sea.

With two trailers already released and now this third one gaining traction too, the plot of the film was has been revealed quite evidently. However, the distinct feature in this trailer is a child’s voice calling out of the darkness.

A bunch of new characters with slight variations in the plot, new lead throughs, new places to land, fresh environments and situations, this film has kind of similar story just like its prequel Finding Nemo (2003) but with its own distinct additions.

Disney Pixar has focussed on its USP of in depth storytelling by emotionally striking the right chord in the viewers. Apart from the emotional dominance, Pixar also aims to give out a strong message with a plethora of inspiring tales and quotes within this entire plot.

After 13 years of anticipation, Finding Dory will arrive in theatres on 17 June, 2016.
