Emma Watson launches He For She movement

UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson, is gathering global attention for the new He For She movement with a speech delivered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 20, 2014. HeForShe is a campaign led by UN Women in which men all over the world are being encouraged to speak out against the inequalities faced by women and girls. The campaign, online at HeForShe.org, includes Instagram, Twitter and Facebook elements.

Emma Watson HeForShe speech

“Men – I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue, too.”

Emma Watson HeForShe speech

“I’m inviting you to step forward, to be seen, and to ask yourself…If not me, who? If not now, when? ”

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is the FIRST #HeForShe to make his commitment and activated the real-time map that will track progress around the world.

The HeForShe logo mark represents this solidarity movement by joining together aspects of both the female and male symbols. This union symbolises women and men working together to make gender equality a reality. This mark does not favour the male or female symbol, but blends them together creating a new symbol for humanity and gender equality. Overall, the identity communicates with shared masculine and feminine sensibilities. The typography is bold, but thoughtful while the colours are powerful, warm and energetic.

I hope this video helps break a few of your stereotypes. I found that most Tattoo artists that I dealt with were very courteous professionals.

A huge thanks to Seejay and Leah at Timepiece Tattoo. They were open and welcoming to some random nerd who asked if he could hang out and film in their shop.

The close up needle shots were shot at “Tattoos Forever” in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Albert and Jeff helped me by setting up the needles and explaining everything to me. The guys there were SUPER helpful, very professional and cooperative.

KLM Lost & Found service

KLM’s dedicated Lost & Found team at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is on a mission to reunite lost items as soon as possible with their legitimate owner. From a teddy bear found by the cabin crew to a laptop left in the lounge. Locating the owners can sometimes be a challenge, so special forces have been hired…
And remember: if it happens to you, the KLM Social Media team is always there for you on Facebook and Twitter!

Transcript:
Yes, it’s a lot of fun. Personally I think he is a real asset to the company. And he can really do something no one else can. Our main goal is to return lost items to the owner. As fast as possible. To do that, we monitor social media. And the crew checks the plane after every flight. I really like the fact that we are now getting some help with that.
We train for muscle strength, endurance, and of course socialization.
When you see the reactions of the passengers that really is amazing. He drops by regularly but I have to admit: I do spoil him a bit.

We Need Nothing to Collide

A ‘visual sound’ experiment for We Need Nothing to Collide by Russ Chimes. All effects are in-camera, created using a projector and custom software. Download the song: iTunes: http://www.smarturl.it/sula Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/sula/1330330 Created by: Mark Wheeler http://www.markwheeler.net Clay Weishaar http://cargocollective.com/klayco Music by: Russ Chimes http://soundcloud.com/russchimes/ — This project came about after Russ saw the first two MIDI Visualizer Experiments I’d been working on. He asked if I’d be interested in making something for We Need Nothing to Collide and sent across all the stems and MIDI tracks. From there I built an openFrameworks app that generates animations based on MIDI notes and three parameters that can be pre-choreographed or controlled on-the-fly. Check out some live playing here: https://vimeo.com/101896491 To turn it into something bigger, Clay came on board and we set about experimenting with projecting and shooting the piece around Santa Monica and Malibu. The setup we used was a 5000 lumen projector running from a car via an inverter, and shot with a 5D. It proved a little unreliable (and stressful!) but portable and manageable enough to get what we needed. If you’ve tried this you’ll know just how critical it is to time your shots with the sun… Special thanks to Karl Ringman and Christine Cha for helping out on set.

MIDI Visualizer Experiment 3

This third visual experiment was designed to create the We Need Nothing to Collide projections https://vimeo.com/106133631 Here’s a quick demo of how it works when being played in real time. Loops are triggered in Mark Eats Sequencer from the monome that feed through Ableton Live and into the openFrameworks app. The OP-1 is also playing a synth in Live and by adjusting parameters with dials, sounds and visuals are changed as one. More at http://markeats.com and http://markwheeler.net

MIDI Visualizer Experiment 1

Short demo of an openFrameworks experiment that creates music visuals in real time. Animations are generated based on incoming MIDI notes, timecodes and control change values. Here I’m using Mark Eats Sequencer (http://markeats.com/sequencer) with the monome to create loops that are played through Ableton Live instruments and also fed into the MIDI Visualizer.

MIDI Visualizer Experiment 2

Short demo of an openFrameworks experiment that creates music visuals in real time. This is the second ‘scene’ created. Animations are generated based on incoming MIDI notes and timecodes. Here I’m using the OP-1 to play a drum loop and synth that sends note data into the MIDI Visualizer. More musical things at http://markeats.com
