Nuke slowing down during session requiring restart.

Hi guys,

Been having a problem with Nuke slowing down during a session, as I use it, and as I preview. Consecutive refreshing gets painfully slow – and it’s back to being fast after a restart. Are my memory settings for Nuke wrong? Any idea what may cause this?

I can recreate this on both 6.3 and 6.2 64-bit, on different machines. But all are running OSX Snow Leopard. Appreciated if someone could chime in on this.

telestream episode pro / converting a quicktime into mpeg2 format issues

we want to to convert an quicktime ( animation codec, no audio)

into the following:

Final Delivery Video Format & Illustrations
– MPEG2, 1920x1080px
– 50p
– I-Frame only
– HP@HI
– CBR
– CBR
– 40Mbit
– Closed GOP
– GOP<15
No audio is required for these animations

So far we keep getting this error:
MPEG2 encoder: Invalid video horizontal size(1920)/vertical size (1080)/frame rate(50.00 fps) combination.

if i convert it with 25fps it works fine but not with 50fps?

Can anyone help?

Modelling issue

Hi friends,
I am having a problem with a model that i am using for my demo reel. Maybe this issue is not supposed to be discussed here in this forum but i could think of no other place to find help. My modeller keeps modelling a female character which should actually be cartoony but when he passes it to my rigger/animator he keeps on taking out a lot of mistakes saying that the character has no characteristics, the edge flow has problem, the lips have bcum realistic etc. Now my issue is that my modeler has always modeled realistic characters & his characters have never been rigged or animated so he is having a problem understanding whats wrong with the model & I am a VFX artist but i know little about the technical details abt modelling. Since my animator keeps taking out mistakes we have to remodel the character always which consumes a lot of time. I am adding sum images of the model please give me comments on how to solve this issue. Thanks in advance.

seeking efficient approach for small smoky fire

Hi,

I am searching an efficient solution for creating decent looking smoky fires on tree trunks/twigs appeared in foreground and background for a war-zone type of shot. I pull a still frame from a FXPHD term intro video to better describe the effects I am after: Basically small smokes here and there, and smoky fire on tree trunks.
I’ve searched some possible solutions for that include (I put the concerns from my perspective):
1. GenArts Monsters GT
2. Tracode Particular for Nuke
3. particles in NukeX 6.3
4. Maya fluids: highest learning curve and probably take longer to render?
5. pull keys from stock footage: most fire stock footage with dark background has no smoke in it, whereas live-action smoky fire on wood can be difficult to pull a clean key?

Since I have no experience in any of above, I am wondering which approach would be the most efficient one with little learning curve that creates descent results of fire and smokes effects?

Please, any comment is very welcome!
