Tree of Life FX – Douglas Trumbull

Just got back from seeing this, wow. Douglas Trumbull’s work is unbelievably fantastic. By far the best showcase of physical effects in a long time.

I urge you to see it at the cinema. But, if you can’t here a video of some of the shots:

Southern California High Schooler wants to become VFX Artist

Hi… everyone calls me Andy. As you can see, I live in a suburb close to LA, and i’m in high school. I’m going into my senior year. During my sophmore year, I got into VFX designing. I did it for a year. I got into After Effects, Videocopilot, I did youtube videos… watched tutorials… got the basics of Visual Effects. I got somewhat good at it (or so my friends said) but then, I got really busy with school and other things… got really into Musical Theatre and Drama.

Now its coming into the time to decide what I want to become, career-wise. I love performing, but I really don’t have the… well… you could say I don’t have the backbone to do it. I don’t have the guts. That’s a whole other thing… anyways…

I want to pursue VFX designing as a career path. But problem is I really am not good with the whole "future" thing. I don’t have the first clue about colleges, which is very bad going into my senior year of high school…

Anyways sorry I have a tendency to ramble.. ANYWAYS…

I need you guys to help me! Could you please inform me on what to do, concerning college/major or whatever… if I want to become a VFX artist?

Also about how to get experience on software/knowledge of VFX designing itself? Like, go to barnes and noble and get books on it? Tell me what to do from scratch.

If you could help, that would be the best.

HELP Lattice locator to scale

Hi, I am wondering the best way to solve this problem. Hopefully someone has an idea. I have my SCENE animated, and everything works fine. It is composed by a cyclorama, objects and drops flying around. Everything is attached to a locator but when I scale down my scene to match the size I need it doesn´t respects the lattice deformation.

The drops are inside de locator and it moves perfectly but when I try to scale them down the drops won´t respond how it should be.

The drop was:
1. model
2. Attach model to motion path (curve)
3. Attach to a flow path
