Jonny Kofoed for PAMS
Posted in: 2d, 3d, General, Geoff Kirk-Smith, Jonny Kofoed, new zealand, PamsNew Zealand-based Director Jonny Kofoed recently put out a series of über sweet animated spots for PAMS for the NZ-market.
Meticulously designed and animated, the spots are an ode to Pams’ food products. Filled with simple, food-shaped characters they live in a vintage, yet contemporary world. The combination and contrast of analog/digital textures and simple 3D characters that seamlessly blend into 2D make for a friendly, home-cooked food aesthetic, reminiscent of the friendliness of your local greengrocer. (Make sure to begin from “For The Love of Food” and continue on to the other two shorter spots.)
Jonny was kind enough to answer a few questions about the project. Read the Q&A here.
Make sure to check out the behind the scenes and pre-production material on Jonny’s site, loads of amazing stuff there!
Big thanks to fellow author Lilian Darmono for the extra help with the post!

I promise I’ve searched all the documentation I have and I have no clue on how to solve this. What I want to achieve is to add a "group" knob to a Group, that is one of thos kbos with an arrow that you can expand or contract.
I’ve created some of them manually and analysed the class and it seems it’s a "Tab_Knob" but when I use that what I get is a tab, not a group within the tab.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Painting cloth
Posted in: NUKE from The FoundryHis hand was wrapped in green, so keying it wasn’t hard at all- I was able to fill in parts that weren’t as hard as I expected, but now his hand passes infront of a moving cape.
My question: what is the best paint/cover up method to fill in the void of where his hand is infront of his cape? I have tried painting, but every frame is different and it makes the cape appear to "pop" because of the different strokes.
I really wish there was a clean plate shot during production…. :-\
Any input would be great- Thanks!

Plot Outline:
“How come nobody’s ever tried to be a superhero?”
When Dave Lizewski – ordinary New York teenager and rabid comic-book geek dons a green-and-yellow internet-bought wetsuit to become the no-nonsense vigilante, Kick-Ass, he soon finds an answer to his own question: because it hurts. But, overcoming all the odds, the eager yet inexperienced Dave quickly becomes a phenomenon, capturing the imagination of the public.
However, he’s not the only superhero out there – the fearless and highly-trained father-daughter crime-fighting duo, Big Daddy and Hit Girl have been slowly but surely taking down the criminal empire of local Mafioso, Frank D’Amico. And, as Kick-Ass gets drawn into their no-holds-barred world of bullets and bloodletting with Frank’s son, Chris, now reborn as Kick-Ass’s arch-nemesis, Red Mist – the stage is set for a final showdown between the forces of good and evil – in which the DIY hero will have to live up to his name. Or die trying ……

Dave Lizewski is a social misfit, a natural-born geek, a true nobody at his high school and he is invisible to all the girls. He has two good friends, Toddy and Marty, and spends his time at the local comic book store. He is in love with a girl called Katie Deauxma but she barely notices his existence. One day, after a conversation about superheroes at the local comic book café, Dave and Toddy are robbed and Dave decides that he is going to be a superhero and fight crime. He orders a Diving wet suit off the internet and starts training to become a real crime fighter.
After a few weeks of training, Dave sees the two men who robbed him trying to break into a car so Dave puts on his suit and confronts them. He tries to fight the men but ends up being brutally stabbed; and as he stumbles around after the thugs run away, he is hit by a car. Clinging to life in the back of an ambulance, he begs the paramedic to hide his suit. As he ends up arriving at the hospital completely naked, rumours start up around town about what exactly happened to him before his accident happened.
A few months later, Dave is almost as good as new. He is full of metal plates and has numerous frayed nerve endings which grant him a higher pain threshold. He returns to school and is surprised to find that the true love of his life, Katie, is now talking to him. His friend Marty explains that Katie likes lame ducks and that due to rumours following the accident, the entire school now thinks that Dave is a gay prostitute. Despite the setbacks, Dave is still determined to be a superhero and sets up a MySpace account so that people can contact him and give him cases. One night, while looking for a cat, Dave fights off three attackers beating a defenceless man in front of a diner. Some of the diner patrons record the fight on video and posts it on YouTube. The power of social networking kicks in, and Daves alter ego, Kick Ass, becomes an internet phenomenon.
Thus Dave Lizewski embarks on a life as a super-hero, albeit a super-hero with no powers. His life changes forever as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, embattles an array of violent characters, and encounters other vigilantes in the shape of an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo: Hit Girl; and her father, Big Daddy.
Kick-Ass was heralded as a humourous, entertaining, rollercoaster of a superhero movie ……. with a big difference. Have you seen Kick-Ass? did you agree with all the hype and the positive reviews? post below with your critique, we would love to hear your thoughts.
