Lens Distortion, Rolling Shutter & CGI Q’s.

Hey guys, hopefully someone can give me a pointer in the right direction, sorry if you’ve seen this posted everywhere, going for shotgun approach 😀

If I’ve shot a scene to matchmove, is it best to remove the rolling shutter first, then apply the lens distortion tool to un-distort the image, or the other way around, un-distort then apply rolling shutter ?
(grids for the lenses are all shot, and yes obviously the camera has )

Secondly, once the ‘shot’ has been corrected, then ready to take into the matchmoving program, do I export it as the original resolution (1920×1080), or do I want the full un-distorted image which is larger than the original footage ?
Obviously this same footage will be used in the background in my 3d software (maya in this case), so I’m just a tiny, tiny bit unsure as to what to do !

Thank you for any help :niceone:

Problem with mattePass! pls hlp!

Hi everybody!

I ran into a problem in nuke with my matte pass!

I divided my scene in different passes and also different layers.

i.e. i have a forground layer with all the characters and assets on it, then i have a ground layer, a background layer and a sky layer.

I’ve done this so that i can correct and tweak every layer on its own.

Since for example the plant is partly in the ground, i made myself a matte pass.
i’ve done that by applying a white surfaceshader to my forground and a black surfaceshader on the ground, background and sky layer.

With this matte pass i can cut my forground so that it will match up with my scene.

But unfortunately the matte pass now is one pixel too small and the skylayer is cominig through wich leads to a blue line where the plant should touch the ground.

Why is this happening and how can i fix this.

Anybody got an idea?

Greetings

Braggart

Ps.: I attached a jpeg which should clarify my problem here. unfortunately u cant quite see what i mean in the jpeg. Therefore i also attached a tga file. The blue line between the ground and the plant is clearly visible in the tga file.

i also uploaded my nuke script and a multichannel open exr file with all the layers i used for the comp.

HD to SD workflow

Hi all,

I was watching a scratch demo at assimilate’s website. HE was working with 4k plates that were in an HD 1920 project. So he resized the image "down" to fit in the 1920 window. I said to myself, wow that must be nice to compact all of those 4k pixels into a 2k project. ( almost 2k)

Should I be doing the same with HDV 1440 X 1080 if my goal is to render to DVD?
For example, I set up my project to 1440 X 1080 and then render out to DVD standard. I’m guessing that the transcoding dumbs down the resolution to 720 X480.
So my question is which is the better deal? Working in a 720X 480 project and Resize "down" to fit 720 x 480 (which should compact those nice 2k pixels into 720)

Or

Work in 1440 and let the transcode do the work for me?

Thanks,
Lou
