Student, looking for feed back please.

Hi, I’m going to school for visual effects. I want to be a 2-D Compositor but our school teaches us to be a generalist. Here is one of my school projects, your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

We had to model, texture and light our own outside scene:
I have lit my scene in the day time and late afternoon, plus my reference collage, thanks.:spiderman

Mixed format workflow within Adobe CS5 Suite for 2k Output

I have multiple formats of RED footages in 2k, 4k apart from that DPX files in 2.35 Anamorphic format and DSLR footages too.

We would like to do the full post production within Adobe CS5 Suite. Edit in Premiere, Compositing & Grade in Aftereffects with color finesse.

Our final output would be in 2k DPX sequence Master @ pixel aspect ratio square – 2048X872

My doubts are as follows :
1.) While working we would need to PAN & Zoom in RED 4k files. Is that a good practise to do it in premiere cs5 ?
2.) What are the recommended project setting & Interpret footage settings ?
3.) I have planned to import all the footages as it is to Premiere and assume them as 24 fps using Interpret footage settings. Is this is a good practise to do it in premiere cs5.
4.) Since my output will be 2k, can i modify RED 2k settings to 2048X872 @ 24 fps @ pixel aspect ratio square and continue to edit?

I have already gone through this article
DAVTech Table – Editing with RED 1.7 Technical Overview. It discusses only about RED.

Looking for Massachusetts(Boston) artists!

I’m a newbie in the VFX realm, I just graduated from CDIA(www.cdiabu.com) and learned modeling, texturing and all that other good stuff. We never really covered vfx tho, and then I came across it and fell in love.
I am currently at SIGGRAPH and after being surrounded by so many likeminded people, I didn’t want it to end.

So, I want to start a vfx group in Boston that can meet regularly to discuss anything and everything. I have scoured the Internet for something like this in Boston and can’t find it. Please let me know if you’re interested, or even better, if this kind of group DOES exist.

I want to have newbies and professionals networking and helping each out.

Look forward to hearing from you

Synopsis

After the many accidents and the nuclear war of 2012, most of the earth is polluted and noxious in long term for the health of everyone, but in some rare places where the nature kept the upper hand.

The World One, which is the biggest media group in the world and have a great political influence, took control of several non-polluted islands in order to enable the participants of the game to win their permanent exile on those territories, and so ensure their future and good health. But, since there are not a lot of people interested in those games, the media group created a wilder game : a strange airsoft tournament called Midgard Death Row. The WO, always audience ratings-seeking, made an exciting drug which would be obligatory for every participants.

The arena is a forsaken hotel. To start, the players are in containers, put anywhere in the hotel. Divided into four teams, they do not have any way to communicate between them.

Before the game is launched, a terrorist group called F.S.F. ( For Spiritual Freedom), which fight against the control and huge influence of the WO, decides to transform the television game into a real tragedy. In order to do that, the group infiltrates the channel and replaces the D-Dopa with a variant, which cancels out the subject’s conscience. The players will be drowned in a frenetic state. The F.S.F. Replaces the false weapons too with real ones so an awful massacre would happen in live – events that, according to them, would lead to the immediate closing down of the channel. But, against all expectations, that massacre increases considerably the audience ratings, and the WO keeps broadcasting despite the horror and lets the last round of Midgard Death Row happen.

Independent keyframes?

Hi all,

Is there a way to see "ONLY" the keys for a particular point?

For example, If I animated a rectangle using the top right & left points.

If I select the bottom points, there should be NO keyframes lit up.
BUt that is not the case. If I select the the bottom points, it shows the keyframes of any keyframes that were keyed.

So again, if I had the top points keyed on every frame, I would get a solid color line from start to end of the timeline. When I select the bottom points,
I can’t tell where my keys would be for the bottoms.

Am I making any sense?

Thanks,
Lou

few questions about Scripting

So i thought i would get some scripts written for nuke.
But i have a few questions first.

sometimes I can just run this in nuke and it works:
myPyScript.myFunction()
and it works, but sometimes i need to first do a import:
import myPyScript
myPyScript.myFunction()

How come that i sometimes need to import and sometimes not?
My scripts are in a scripts folder that get’s imported thru the init.py

And the 2nd question.
when i run a script from nuke, i run this command:
myPyScript.myFunction()
but what if i’m not having a function in my script?
it seems that to only run it like this, it won’t work:
myPyScript
how come?

thankful for any help.

cheers
