Cylinder distortion in Shake?

I’ve had to perform a couple of label replacement shots around a bottle. They have been tracked on in Shake / Mocha and Im using the Warper node to create the bend around the curve of the cylinder. Whilst Im fairly happy with the track / integration, the fact that Im warping by eye means Im not matching the shape of the cylinder very well.
Is there a plugin for Shake that will allow a more realistic cylindrical distortion to be applied to an image?
I realise that the route I should have gone would be to do this in Nuke and try and match some actual 3D cylinder geometry to the bottle, then project the label around the 3D. But I’ve gone so far down this route now Im reluctant to abandon it.

Roto vs. Green Screen?

Howdy all,

I’m trying to learn more about CG and VFX and filmmaking in general so I have a lot of newb questions.

I think I get what roto is (kinda like a frame-by-frame mask so you can cut out part of a shot and paste it onto another?), and I’m pretty sure what green screen is, but I can’t have it straight because it seems like green screen would replace roto. What am I missing here? Why would anyone go through all the work of roto when they could just green screen it?

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Method family,” Marin commented. “In addition to an incredibly innovative team of artists, Method has the technical resources to enable us to bring as much creativity to a project as we can.”

Peter Lazaro, Sr. Flame Artist, Method Studios

A seasoned VFX talent with over 15 years of experience, Lazaro got his start in the industry as a graphic designer at Metrovision in Buenos Aires, Argentina, designing commercials and TV shows before forming his own VFX boutique, Dynamo Post. After that, Lazaro moved to Spain, where he worked on numerous high-end VFX commercials and feature film projects. Prior to joining Method, Lazaro headed the VFX department as a Flame artist/VFX supervisor at Wild Child Post and Resident Creative Studio in NYC, where in addition to commercials for clients such as AT&T and Sirius/XM, he worked on music videos for Coldplay, Jay-Z, Kanye West and the Black Eyed Peas, among others, as well as the opening titles for HBO’s “Entourage.”

“Method has a great team of artists supported by a robust technical infrastructure that extends around the world,” Lazaro said. “There is so much creativity here, and that, along with a full slate of projects to work on, makes me very excited about what the future will bring, particularly as we look to move into our new facility shared with Company 3 in the heart of Chelsea.”

need workflow ideas for matchmoving mesh to actor

I need some workflow ideas for matchmoving/animating a full body mesh of an actor to a plate of the actor’s performance. I do not have a 3d scan of the actor or any motion capture data available so im having to just sculpt the mesh from photo references so im assuming i will have to use distortions of some kind to compensate for the edges being somewhat off in places. the hardest issue i am having is lining up the mesh to the actor and getting the perspective right. I have adjusted my virtual camera lens to match the focal length of the physical camera but am still having difficulties. Any ideas are deeply appreciated!
