Is IMDB accurate????

I’m just wondering if this guy I might be working with in the near future is full of shit…He has stated on his companies web site that he has worked on a Harry Potter film.
A search of IMDB with his name yielded nothing.
He does have form with doing this before claiming he worked on something for Frank Oz, a check of the end credits didn’t have his name.
I figure if he is lying about the work he has done, its no giant leap for him to lie about payment.

Making clouds?

Hi there,

I am creating a short film at the moment – live action but there are many CG elements integrated into the live action footage.

One of these is clouds. I am wanting to create, realistic, individual clouds of different colours as well – and one with a glowing effect. I can’t find a suitable tutorial anywhere on the internet that will provide something realistic. Most are just to create clouds as part of a sky.

I wonder if anyone has any tips or ideas of how I can go about this in 3D Studio Max?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben.

Mothership for Sprint “Firsts”

Mothership is back. Directors Dael Oates and David Rosenbaum —in collaboration with Goodby Silverstein & Partners— have joined forces to create the studios latest spot, Firsts. The ad displays an elaborately choreographed domino effect that, one by one, topples the world’s technological and cultural “firsts.” While visual effects were contributed by Mothership’s sister facility, Digital Domain, Oates and Rosenbaum, who do not regularly direct as a duo, came together to handle this complex and ambitious project, which includes all live-action and the digital integration of hundreds of all-CG elements.

UPDATE: The previously featured video has now been swapped out with an extended :60 version.

Eyeon Software First To Offer Stereoscopic Site Licensing

Toronto: June 3, 2010… Having seen a tremendous surge in the use of stereoscopic elements in VFX production since the beginning of 2010, eyeon Software today announced their latest licensing initiative, Stereoscopic Site Licensing. With the imminent release of Fusion 6.1 and related product updates, eyeon has dedicated significant resources to create leading stereoscopic pipelines.

“Collectively, the industry has been more than a little surprised at the global level of interest in stereoscopic production; this was very apparent at NAB and other recent industry events. Our team began working closely with several clients to determine how we could best support this developing market. The introduction of site licensing with Fusion and Rotation 6.1’s new GPU stereo workflow is exactly what studios need.” ~ Joanne Dicaire, Director of Sales and Marketing

Recent Fusion architectural advancements have created the ability to easily gear up for the high demand of stereoscopic production. Designed to take full advantage of today’s super computing power, the new Stereoscopic Site Licensing provides studios with the future roadmap to low cost GPU rendering. The render farm queue is no longer hindering the production process. Gone are the days of waiting in line, render locally and view your work in seconds instead of hours or days.

Rotation 6.1 couples with Fusion 6.1 to introduce new tools for rotoscoping, keying, color management, and plugin support. The expanded capabilities are specifically targeted for shot prepping, touchup, tracking, and depth map generating for stereo conversion. Together, a site license of Fusion, Rotation, and Render Nodes gives artists the ability to be very creative and work far more effectively. The artists are able to render locally and view their shots; submitting their finals in the least amount of time, eliminating cost prohibitive wait times and significantly reducing ongoing shot revisions.

center Pivot

hey,guys
is there any way to center pivot to my imported geometry as in Maya or do i have to manually do it every time.

Grain in Zdepth

this might be a very simple question.
I like to add grain to blurry area of Zdepth. similar to the to"lens tool" in photoshop. where you can add the Zdepth in alpha and add grain on the fly as well
In Nuke I used a shuffle copy to get my Zdepth to work. but the grain tool in Nuke doesn’t have an alpha feed in it ?
thanks

Boujou: Is there a way to combine solves?

So… I read on this forum that it is possible to combine solves through your 3d app, and i also read somewhere saying the same thing, but the method is different.

Though, i don’t know what this whole baking camera is, or what this poster means by parenting the camera, i’ve tried it but it doesn’t quite work how that poster explained it.

And i thought you only bake something if it is a simulation (like objects affected by particles).

So now what it comes down for me, are two questions:

1: Going to be an extreme noob question. When i export boujou solves to maya, it always gives me the point clouds. Exactly what are the point clouds for? Is there a script in the camera that defines its movements based on the points?

2: Can someone explain to me how to actually stitch solves like how andyburm stated? But in a more detailed way? And how would i render the stitched solves out as another footage?

the reason i ask these questions, is because i am trying to track a footage that has TONS of motion blur. it has about 1403 frames, and Boujou tracks everything just fine EXCEPT frame 878 (because it’s super blurred). And when Boujou is done tracking and solving, it becomes like 18 solves. And i’m wondering if there is a way to create one solid camera movement (like for that ONE frame i move the camera manually or something).

I can’t post the footage unfortunately as i don’t have rights to. but yeah… just asking if there is a way…
