Sand for a Miniature

I’ve been working on a miniature for a piece I’m working on and I can’t find a realistic option for a sand dune landscape. Any suggestions would be fantastic.

I’m currently using woodland scenics fine buff ballast, and it seems to be what has been recommended numerous times. As you can see it looks more like beach sand than sand from dunes.

I have attached a few photos.

interface enhancements ideas

hi:

I have been thinking about nukes interface and what could make it easier or faster to use.

Here is my list:

1. Show last used commands in tab key.
below the search box nuke could show a list of the last 5 used nodes. houdini does something like this now.

2. marking menus.
create your own marking menus. they could be context sensitive too.

3. cycle between layouts
shortcut to cycle between 2 layouts. the same as using alt-tab in windows.

4. intelligennt tab key
quicksilver style tab key as mentioned in my earlier post.

5. gestures
draw a circle and a blur node is added. draw a t and a tracker.

Please add more or comment on these if there is a way to have them now.

Anthony F. Schepperd for Ape School – “Wail to God”

Anthony F. Schepperd’s “Wail To God” is a subversion of conventional animation. Suffused with an unorthodox style reminiscent of Bill Plympton, viewers are jolted by constant shifts in perspective, while the uncanny non-narrative plays out with a graceful continuity.

In “Wail To God,” there are none of the usual clichés. The darting changes in scale, color, and motion are freakishly cool, while the loose and frenetic line-work—moving with the ferocity of brush-fire—add another layer of unpolished appeal.

The style—or experimental risks—in “Wail To God” may not be for everybody, but in my opinion, they’re highly refreshing.

Friday Night Lights promo for Direct TV by Iron Claw

ic_fnl
DirecTV’s Design Space partnered with VFX company Iron Claw (Sean Koriakin and Greg Talmage), director Ben Mor from RSA Films and DP Dariusz Wolski (Pirates of the Carribean, Alice in Wonderland) to create this foreboding promo for DirecTV’s exclusive broadcast of Friday Night Lights.

Everything was shot on green screen, with the only practical elements in the entire piece being the actors, house facade and pickup truck. The simplicity of the concept allows for the subtle details and beautiful lighting to take center stage and really pack in the emotion and anticipation.

GAME APPRECIATION FOR SPIKE JONZE.

kanye-west-spike-jonze-girl-skateboards-films-1

Life ain’t bad these days when you’re Spike Jonze, the mayor of Awesome Town. Especially when the MoMA decides to do a retrospective, figuratively titled Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years. In time for his latest cinematic release on the 16th, the two week jaunt at the museum celebrates his comprehensive work in all of it’s glory. From cross-dressing with a bunch of skating jackasses to existential musings with Malcovich, appreciate the man’s game in the last week of his love fest in the Filmmaker In Focus series.

Subscribed thread email notifications

I’ve noticed that since the theme change/site reboot, email notifications for subscribed threads seem to be coming directly from the email addresses of the users who post replies. This is slightly annoying, as pretty much all of these emails end up in my Junk folder. Is there any way this can be changed so the subscription replies are sent through the VFXTalk mail server again?

Thanks
