Snow Leopard is here!
Posted in: The PadPulled up a very processor intensive Nuke script and it seems to handle cpu usage a LOT better, of course being 32-bit it can still only use 2 of my 10 gb ram, BUT, when rendering it is using 7.65 (765%) of my 8 cpus and then drops to 1% when idle…so that is very nice, now if we can only get the rest of the ram in there it will run beautifully.
per app expose is a pretty nifty feature, tho i use tabs for safari it could be nice for when you have 100 finders open. Overall response seems slightly snappier all around. Looking in the activity monitor I noticed almost all essential processes are running in 64-bit mode.
Final Cut still took about the same amount of time to start up…but this new gamma makes the images look different…so i’ll have to get used to that! Quicktime started up very quickly and I like the new look. Very clean.
Well I have a ton of work going on right now that I’ll be using my tower for so I will post if I notice any differences while working (which is really all that matters)
Gradients and AE/Premiere
Posted in: Adobe After EffectsI am rendering out an animation which uses a gradient backdrop.. the still images rendered out of AE look ok, however when I import the sequence into Premiere and export media to Bluray 1280 x 720, the graidents are blocky with obvious lines where the colour changes.
I have put my project settings – colour depth in AE to 16bit, but that hasn’t helped?
Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening?

When will CG stop getting better?
Posted in: Beginners TalkHuman/sentient emotions are really hard, but when will Hollywood be able to do anything besides that, indistinguishable from reality? Also, they need to use people with more spatial intelligence, they’re great at rendering and sound but their camera paths, pfft, I could do better. Really, it took you until 2001 just to do the Pearl Harbor bomb?
Im looking for a way to go about animating a flag (basically an image on a 3d card) in the wind,
is there a script that will create a realistic animation or is is best to animate by keyframe with a deform?
thanks guys.
