Interview: Shynola and “Strawberry Swing”

shynola-interview
“We never claim to be original, just rigorous.”

So says Chris Harding, one of London-based Shynola’s four founders, in our interview with him about their recent music video for Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing.”

Despite the disclaimer, Shynola’s body of work—especially their music videos—have inspired thousands of fans worldwide with their innovative visuals and compelling narratives. Motionographer’s Lilian Darmono and James Wignall went deep with Chris about the process behind “Strawberry Swing” and touched on Shynola’s development over the years.

String for getting the node name?

Hello all.

First of all, I am new at Nuke and Compositing. But I am learning a lot here. Thanks for that.

My question is:

I have in my Node Graph, a series of nodes that are image sequences (clips), and I want to render them all into .mov files. So what I did was:

I added a write note to all of them indicating where I want to save them and giving all the specifications.

My only issue is, as there are a LOT of write nodes, I am having to rename the destination file in each one of them. Is there a way to add a string to the file name where nuke will name the file equal as the node?

For example:

My write node has this information on the file field:

/Volume/hd/clips/clip_001.mov

Can i add something like
/Volume/hd/clips/#getclipname#.mov

Cause it would make my life MUCH easier.

Thanks !

GOD’S PREY TAKES DESERT SPIRIT JOURNEY.

36The thick, humid, NYC, summertime dumpster batter that is soaking us down from head to toe on the daily has created a longing lilt for the west. Yesterday we threw it up for Warriors of Radness’ beachy ‘tude and now we’re taking a spirit journey through psychedelic rock and sand with God’s Prey. What looks like Sean Reveron and Megan McRae’s tribute to Jodorowsky, Joshua Tree, and the epic peyote scene in Young Guns is better served to be thought of as a uniform to wear while postulating in a peyote haze on the edge of a cliff and calling your “horse” “dog”. We don’t know where to get it as of yet but we guarantee that our zipcar is going to look like it was time traveled in with a naked indian when we return it to the parking garage.

2.5D Shadows

I cannot remember the shadow casting hack to project shadows from a card in 3D space. Could someone remind me on how to do this?

I remember that it is a second projection camera doing the work.
