Approfitto della scomparsa dell’artista Michael Jackson per ricordare uno dei migliori video musicali mai prodotti in cui si fece largo uso di effetti visivi. Fu diretto da Bruce Gowers e Robert Abel. Mentre Gowers divenne famoso per aver diretto i primi video dei Queen, Robert Abel fu uno dei primi a creare effetti visivi al computer attraverso il suo studio Robert Abel and Associates (RA&A), fondato nel 1971 insieme a Con Pederson. Abel e Pederson adattarono il sistema computerizzato di camera usato in 2001 Odissea nello Spazio per creare effetti speciali per le grafiche televisive. I loro primi lavori i furono animare i loghi della ABC e la Whirpool, poi produssero una lunga serie di spot pubblicitari e loro sono le grafiche per il film Tron della Disney.
Il trattamento per il video Can You feel It fu concepito e scritto da Michael Jackson e, al di là della facile retorica del messaggio, il filmato è un piccolo capolavoro nell’uso degli effetti visivi dove i cinque fratelli Jackson, come dei giganti buoni o aspiranti Prometeo, giocano e portano al popolo i quattro elementi: il fuoco, la terra, l’aria e l’acqua. Nel video compare la coda del pavone, il volatile dava il nome alla società fondata da Michael e i suoi fratelli, Peacock Productions, scelto perchè come scrive lo stesso Michael sulle copertine degli album dei Jacksons: “… il pavone è l’unica specie che integra tutti i colori in uno e mostra questa radiosità di fuoco solo quando innamorato. Noi, come il pavone, tentiamo di integrare tutte le razze in una attraverso l’amore e il potere della musica”.
Alcune volte gli effetti audio coprono il brano musicale, una scelta strategica peculiare.
A quanto pare il costo del video fu di 100.000 dollari.

Its larger, longer and more epic than Hunt for Gollum. A large cast bring an entire people to life. A host of new characters never before seen on screen! This 75min film has been in the making for almost 6 years and was what sparked the Hunt for Gollum.
Born of Hope has attracted people from around the world to join the team, even gaining support and interest from some of the original New Line Trilogy cast and crew members including Richard Taylor and the Oscar winning team at Weta Workshop and we’re currently in the final stage of the production and looking for talented Matte Painters to join our team.
This fan film is made by die-hard Lord of the Rings fans for fans hence we’re looking for passionate people who are eager to create top quality work which is up to feature film standard to bring our Middle Earth to life.
You will (re) create photo realistic matte paintings that will be used in both fully CG shots and to enhance live action footage.
Ideally you are familiar in working with live action footage and rendered cg elements, comfortable with 2.5D / 3D projections and have basic knowledge of the compositing process (which is important for proper file management, flexibility when it comes to adjustments etc.).
Being able to produce concept art prior to matte creation is a huge plus.
Were looking for pro-active, enthusiastic people who work well within a team environment and who have a professional attitude with regards to time management and image quality.
