How to remake this effect? + Animation help needed

Hi,

We are currently working on a short remake of the original samurai pizza cats series. There is an effect we want to remake but I have not really an idea how to achieve it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUDzxVWLOg0 from 3:24 to 3:36 I am mainly using 3dsmax and AE.

This is also quite a hard animation for me. I’m more of a compositer then animator. I have Speedy already rigged but I can need some help with the animation. If someone wants to take a look at it? That would be great.
