Gun muzzle flares look too clean (with video!)

Hey everyone! I have a question. Last month I directed an action movie called Silent Takedown. I have a problem regarding the muzzle flares. They just look too clean and clear. Any tips on making them look more rough and gritty? Is the color of the flares good?
