Series Director – Animation

Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility to actualize the vision of the project/show.
- Participate in the scripting process to develop compelling stories
- Interpreting the script into images and sounds that will best convey the story and characters presented by the writer while maintaining a quality consistent with the respective series/production; plan and coordinate all the images and sounds that make up the show.
- Manage his/her directing and storyboarding team effectively and efficiently in order to complete the production on time.
Duties:
·Ensure that the series production for which he/she is responsible is completed on time
·Ensure the production meets the standard of quality set by the Producer
·Consult with Department Heads and Supervisor as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest production friendly solutions that will maintain the vision of the series
·Study scripts to determine artistic interpretation and design shots in conjunction with a storyboard artist and/or an editor
·Direct the Storyboarding team throughout the boarding of an episode; communicate ideas effectively and recommend solutions to help interpret the script visually
·Approve the final storyboard panels and recommend revisions as needed
·Cut together the final storyboard animatic
·Work with Episodic Directors and comment/approve the final cut of the show and ensure that the editing serves the story and action of the production
·Direct and work with the Design, Visual Effects, Modeling and Episodic Directors throughout production in order to achieve show/series continuity and quality is maintained
·Be aware of the progress of each show and always be looking for production friendly solutions to ensure delivery deadlines are met
·Work with Voice Director, attend voice recordings and offer creative dialogue suggestions
·Attend sound mix sessions and make suggestions or recommendations for improvement
·Work with Music Composer in developing series musical theme
Qualifications:
·At least 5+ years combined experience as an episodic and series director
·Excellent understanding of animation timing and posing
·Familiarity with 3D animation and the strengths and weaknesses of CGI animation
·Understanding of filmic storytelling principles and techniques
·Deadline motivated
·Critical thinking skills
·Strong sense of story and structure
·Experience with script writing an asset
·Planning and management skills
·Ability to communicate processes, plans and concepts
·Ability to create entertaining and persuasive messages
·Ability to work in teams/small groups
·Ability to identify and manage different needs of individuals, groups, etc.
·Ability to present specific viewpoints
·Ability to work independently
·Detail-oriented
·Ability to evaluate ideas and presentation
·Ability to present specific viewpoints and influence others
·Experience with Editing Software, Avid an asset
