Principal Technical Officer – Faculty IT, Animation and Multimedia
Full Time, 37 Hours per week Monday to Thursday 8.45 – 5.20
Friday 8.45 – 4.20

£25,001 – £27,319 per annum with possible further progression to £29,853 subject to designated skills and experience

You will provide specialist hardware, software support services to the Faculty, which supports a wide range of study across the Schools of Creative Arts, Computer Science, Physics, Astronomy and Maths and Engineering and Technology. The candidate must be conversant with contemporary professional animation and multimedia practice and the technologies that support it, intranet/internet and web based services. A degree or BTEC HND level qualification in Animation or Multimedia is essential. An awareness of the demands and ambience of Creative Arts education and contemporary arts computer practice is desirable to work in this exciting and challenging role.

Principal Technical Officer – Faculty IT, Animation and Multimedia
Duties:

  • To work as a committed member of the Faculty Computer and IT team, and to be an active member of the Labs software deployment and Faculty centralized computer services, providing specialist computer and IT support across the whole Faculty to both staff and students
  • To be conversant with contemporary professional animation and multimedia practice and the technologies that support it – Windows and Apple OS and software including 3DStudioMax, Maya, Flash, Photoshop and other related software packages e.g. Adobe CS bundle
  • To have knowledge in Apple hardware and software for supporting staff computers throughout the Faculty
  • To have a complete in depth knowledge of the Windows operating systems
  • Highly organized and methodical in everyday duties and pro-active in terms of trouble-shooting potential health and safety and resourcing issues
  • To be able to demonstrate to groups of students the professional use of hardware and software systems, to support students at a practical level and ensure all resources are available for use
  • Able to work with academic staff to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum, contribute to short and long-term programme development initiatives and to contribute to Animation and Multimedia based community forums, technical support services and information systems within the Faculty
  • To be responsible for the effective and efficient running of the render farm, to support the realization of student coursework including short films and interactive media, which needs in depth knowledge of Maya and 3DSMax as well as high end compositing software such as Fusion, and Nuke
  • Able to take responsibility for all practical and technical support for animation and multimedia learning, including the supervision of student proctors
  • To support academic staff with their use of computer systems and software, in lecture rooms in front of classes

  • To organize and supervise the student proctor group

  • To assist with audio-visual support by co-ordination and liaising on resources and with local users and Information Hertfordshire
