Responsibilities

• Supervises a team of paint artists including development, scheduling, performance reviews, discipline, and making recommendations for advancement, hiring and termination
• Leads the team to deliver paint elements that are creatively and technically sound
• Uses discretion and independent judgment to allocate resources to meet expected quality levels within budget and deadline
• Uses discretion and independent judgment to create bids for potential projects
• Manages and oversees the team of paint artists as required for each project
• Establishes quality standards
• Supervises the development of shots, ensuring the team has the necessary skills and knowledge to complete a project
• Approves final elements before moving down pipeline

Requirements

• Degree in computer animation, fine art, graphic design, or equivalent experience
• A minimum of 5 years work experience in related field
• Experience in managing large teams of artists
• Ability to communicate in manner that creates collaboration, coordination and teamwork and to promotes the mutual sharing of ideas and information
• Demonstrated ability to keep track of priorities, project activities, and critical milestones using the appropriate project management tools and techniques
• Ability to generate new and innovative ideas
• Ability to direct and structure working practice so that design changes can be efficiently made
• Ability to manage, develop and retain key talent
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork capabilities, working with various internal business units.
• Process oriented individual
• Must have clear understanding of match moving, roto, re-projection, matte painting and compositing process
• High level of understanding of available paint and environment modelling packages
• Thorough understanding of the visual effects pipelines and workflows
• Excellent understanding of photography and film, and how the interactions of light, lenses and film emulsions make up the image
• Must be willing to travel
• Stereo experience a plus
