We couldn’t find out much about polish (or dutch?) artist Justyna Koeke. From what we could gather: basically, an art piece is installed at a gallery and Justyna has these two day glo muscled goons run in mid opening to destroy everything. We think that’s what is happening.

70’s NYC is soooooooo hot right now! MOMA rolls out part 2 of it’s uber popular Looking at Music series to celebrate the return of plummeting rents and dwindling subway service. The primary focus is on the good parts of economic scariness and the crack addled shitstorm that was the remaining 70% of the story is largely ignored. But the good is GOOD. Jean Michel Basquait and Patti Smith doodle together on Public Access Cable while familiar characters like The Mudd Club, Blondie and Sonic Youth brush up alongside lesser known pieces like Bob Gruen’s film “New York Death Cult”. Overall it’s a very impressively detailed exhibition and the whole thing kicks off on June 10th. Paper bags, flasks, and a proper mugging should all be included in the price of admission.

Black metal, black metal, black metal. Our fascination with church-burning, satan-worshipping, Norwegian nutballs is bottomless and with the genre’s growing popularity there is no shortage of documentaries or photo spreads to keep our brutal tastes satiated. Until The Light Takes Us is a little better than your average black metal doc though, spending significant time dissecting the core of how black metal became what it is today and how it has spiraled into something completely beyond anything it’s creators could have imagined.

It’s that time of month for art openings and all that, so we decided to follow up on yesterday’s post about Banks Violette with a write up on another show that we are extremely excited about: Francesco Clemente @ Dietch Projects! The show opens tomorrow and will no doubt provide a glimpse into the beautiful mind that has collaborated with everyone from Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat to Alfonso Cuaron and Robert DeNiro (kind of).

The Larissa Goldston Gallery is hosting a sexually rambunctious group show featuring a wide variety of mediums and artists. Plus Terry Richardson’s schlong doesn’t make a single contribution, awesome.

Larissa Goldston Gallery is pleased to present Talk Dirty to Me. The exhibition will be on view from February 26th through March 28th.  There will be an opening reception for the artists on Thursday, February 26th from 6 to 8pm.

Focusing on pieces that feature sexual language and/or imagery, Talk Dirty to Me explores not only the semiotics of desire, but also the exceedingly diverse and highly personal interpretations of such works. Within the exhibition, sexual intimations range from the suggestive to the explicit. 

Each work was chosen for its ability to challenge the viewer’s notion of a particular word or image, forcing them to confront and address impulses of attraction or repulsion.  By casting the viewer as voyeur, each piece functions as a mirror.  Feelings of liberation, intimidation, arousal, disgust or often a combination of these emotions are not the result of the works’ language or imagery, but are reflections of the viewer’s personal proclivities and prior experiences.
