keylight artifacts

Hi,

i´m working on some greenscreen shots, comparing different keyers and settings.Keylight is giving me some headaches. It does a really good job on the edges and for the despilling, but it also introduces horrible artifacts within the image. I tried different settings to avoid it, but it seems, that only switching the keyer to “intermediate result” gets rid of those artifacts.

There doesn´t seem to be any information inside the image to justify such artefacts, the matte is clean it looks like there´s some problem in the despilling algorithm. One thing that improves the image is when I turn the replacement mode to “hardcolor”. Still you can see those artifacts, but it´s slightly better.

Any idea what could cause this problem? I also tried primatte, which is doing a pretty good job, but not as good as primatte would do concerning the edges.

Here a link to an image that should clarify the problem.

Thank you for any help

Find and Replace Comps? (for multi artist workflow)

I’m looking for a way to replace all of the instances of a precomp that I have inside a much larger main comp with a new version of the precomp, imported from a diffrent project and that can’t be prerendered(collapse transforms has to still work).

Basically opt. drag but automatically and down through every precomp layer.

So I have…

Main comp A
{

subcomp A
{
comp to replace A
}

subcomp B
{
comp to replace A
}

subcomp C,D,E...
}
so I want to replace “comp to replace A” inside of subcomp A – Z
without manually going into each subcomp and option dragging

It seems there should be a script for this but I haven’t been able to find anything.

Anybody got any good ideas here?

The problem is that I have a multiple artists working on the diffrent subcomps and need to get the “comp to replaces” to all link to the same comp when we import each project file with the finished subcomps. (otherwise I end up with a “comp to replace” for each artist and cant make global changes)

Thanks!

Scripting after Effects to output Trapcode Sound Keys as data files

I’m using After Effect with Trapcode SoundKeys.

I’d like to output keyframes generated by soundkeys as text files. I can do by cutting and pasting of course, but I’d like to automate.

Is it possible to script After Effects to capture keys from each “range” or all of the EQ bars from soundkeys and then output a text file for each range?

Mocha for AE problems

.exr files crashes AE CS5 but not CS4

For some reason open exr files will crash CS5 for me, but not CS4?
I wonder if it has something to do with graphics card, and all that CUDA stuff, or something “new that CS5 uses”. I have the the 10.0.1 version, so I’ve updated AE to the latest version as well. To make matters weirder the “master beauty files” from Maya that are open exr works, it is just all Ambience, Diffuse, Specular, etc. that crashes it. I’ve tried to turn of and on certain settings on the graphics card, but to no avail.

Oh, yes, they are all 32bpc.

It crashes as soon as I just tries to create a thumbnail in the project window, and it crashes as soon as it in the timeline as well…

Normally I would just try to re-render in a different format, but I like open exr, and I’ve spent a week rendering stuff, and I don’t want to redo that…

Auto-keyframe masks in CS5

I’ve been using After Effects since v. 3 and I don’t know how many hundreds of times I’ve moved masks only to discover that I didn’t key the first frame. Every other package autokeys… I heard a rumor it was finally coming to CS5, but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone know how to turn it on? I can’t find a preference or setting, though of course it could be in the .prefs file…

Thanks in advance!

Primatte issues

Hello
So Im trying to pull a key from a plate with people in front of a chalkboard…which isnt the best scenario to start with.
Im using AE with Primatte, Cuz its all I have.
Ive done lots of comping but havent had to pull too many keys that werent on a greenscreen…..

I noticed these little weird specks on the edges of the key, and I cant seem to get rid of em.
(see below)

Im started dealing with them by using defocus matte, and the “Alpha Cleaner”. But I have the tolerances set from 5 to 10 % and it still shows.

If this isnt enough info, I can supply more. Is there any where else in the keyer anyone can suggest to target these kinds of issues?
