Peugeot Practice Project: Vray, DirectorStudio, Multipass Comp

Hi!

In this thread I will post my learning project. I am making a short car commercial.

What I want to learn:
Get deeper in rendering and lighting animations with Vray. Learn more about car and camera animations. Projection mapping for the backgrounds. And get more in to multi pass comping in AE or Fusion.

I might also go in to the Position pass and do some 2.5d relighting.

What I want to achieve:
Making a realistic looking car commercial. I am using a free model of a Peugeuot 207.

About the animation:
It will not be a spectacular commercial with transforming cars or crashing cars. The peugeot is driving over (different)locations and there will be some cool camera shots. The animation it self maybe 1 minute maximum.

I will post the first previews this afternoon.

I hope you enjoy it!

massive to maya plug-in (mass2maya v1.0)

I’m working on the next version of mass2maya plug-in which import all skeleton, geometry and bones (multiple groups of agents). At this phase i’m implementing the new Maya skeleton influence similar to massive bones. See my blog

Kompuhornet

Hey guys, I’m looking for some feedback on a WIP.

The source plates were shot on HDV, so there is some funkiness from the HDV compression that I don’t think is repairable. The initial part of the shot was also a little overexposed. I didn’t shoot it. 🙂

Anyhow, this is basically a screen replacement. Just not in an office. At this point, I’ve been staring at it for too long, so I would appreciate any comments/critique since my eyeballs are kind of burned out on this shot.

I’m ultimately planning on putting this on my reel, so I’ll probably wind up adding something tracked onto the building in back, or something, to force myself to do some extra roto and make the shot more complicated. For now, I’m just worrying about the face, though.

Done with Nuke.

Skeleton model

This is a personal project I have been working on for the past couple weeks, and I am now looking for some constructive critiques (I was told this is a great place for it) Let me know what you guys think if you don’t mind 🙂

student practice

I am a current student and I am taking my first Visual Effects course right now. I have decided to major in Visual Effects and this is work for my art test. I am happy to accept any critiques you have, but I cannot accept specific help or instructions.
I am trying to reproduce the patronus effect from the Harry Potter movies. Using multi-streak particles with a volume curve field I have achieved the movement that I would like. However, I am having a problem getting the particles to streak together to make a silk-like look if that makes sense. I have tried multi-pass rendering and motion blur but am not getting the look that I am striving for. Any critiques are welcome! Thank you.

Desert 3D Matte Painting / VFX sequence

Hi,

im doing a mixed reality visual effects shot as my final year project for my degree and wanted some constructive critisism as this is my first attempt at a visual effects shot.

the concept of the shot is that someone will be working on a multitouch interface navigating through a futuristic travel website, when they choose to ‘live preview’ a tropical beach paradise destination – the wall crashes down and reveals a desert. the shot needs to look handheld and shot on a low quality consumer DV camera.

all footage has been matchmoved, however a matte for the footage plate has not been completed so i didnt include it. desert created in vue and photoshop, camera mapped onto geometry within 3ds max. mental ray was used to render the room.

to make the footage look filmed on DV, chromatic aberration, auto-exposure/focus, lens flare/glare and motion blur were added (please note DOF blur has not been done yet).

does the room look like it is in the same environment as the desert? do the camera effects look like it could have been filmed on a cheap consumer camera?

any critique is welcome! thanks

Rigging TD reel

Hello,
I am ensembling my rigging reel and I would like to receive some tips on how to ensemble it.

Currently I am finishing a toon character rig with controls like bendy arms and legs, ik/fk switch, 2-level control points, and so on.. this will be the first piece on the reel..

The next videos will be these:

– Creature rigging: T-rex rigging with muscle setup, ik/fk, etc.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG3U3nRQ3vo

– Scripting: I have this car rig, with collision detection of the floor, and other http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1a3qITmlxk

– Face setup with morphs:

Plus I have a small plugin I have created for retargeting and I will put this at the end of the reel, with other small shots.

It will be hard to stay in 4 minutes, probably I have to speed up more everything and do lot of cuts.

Before wasting my time, do you think is that enough for a good reel? Is there something ‘special’ that agencies looks for in a rigging td reel?

Thank you for your time
