after a bit of research on net i found out that there are few interesting institutes in hyderabad and chennai….pls give your feedback on these institutes…i’m mainly looking to learn visual effects..
In Hyderbad
1. Trikona institute-they have done the color conversion for movies such as devanand’s GUIDE etc….they are mainly into color restoration, movie related stuff i think
2. Pixelliod
they have credits to lot of south indian movies…some of them are arya2,sainikudu etc….their gallery shows the vfx works they have done for movies but hardly anything spoken about student work….they are supposed to give a one month internship kinda stuff on the movie they are working on….(dono how much does it work)
3. palette school of multimedia…
IN CHENNAI
1.digital magic… supposed to have their own production house which works on visual effects for tamil movies…but same here hardly any student work is posted…
2.vfx college of visual effects…dono much about it
3. Ines academy….same here not much given on site
4.Icat chennai…..has recognition but work they boast to produce and the one on the site are not matching….
4. aim multimedia…. nice to see some good work but much related compositing or roto…but never heard of this place…
5.pixel maya- don have much idea about this as well
so pls give your feed backs and reviews as to how good are they???
One problem is that I don’t think I’ll go to a special art school for VFX like I’m assuming most people do, and I’m sure that might set me back a ways from the others.
So my questions. . . do you yourself or do you know others who have a graphic design major but who now work with VFX?
I take pride in self teaching myself, from the piano to the accordion (all by ear, without knowning how to read sheet music) and now to after effects and maya (with the help of tutorials and just experimenting). I am no master at the piano or accordion and I know it will take years, and I know it takes an extremely long time to master maya.
Would you recommend I dropping out of grahpic design and just going to a VFX school? If so, I live in the flat plains of South Dakota and I don’t think there are too many VFX schools near here, but are there any reasonably close you may know of?
What are some well known VFX schools out there that aren’t too expensive?
I think that is all for now. I would greatly appreciate all your answers!
Thanks everyone
Siggraph Job Fair
Posted in: Professional Career Advice!I’m contemplating going but wonder if it’s even worth it with this economy. I currently have a job but I’m stuck in a position where I can’t grow as an artist. I also don’t live in California which is working against me. Does companies at Siggraph even look at non-locals?
I’d love to hear any success stories.
a) Rotoscoper in a major company or
b) Dynamic artist in a smaller comany ?
🙁
Now ‘ve decided to take up VFX as my career i’ve lot of things goin through my mind, may be this is the right place to pose them
1.I’ve a degree so not looking for one more in Vfx but want to learn from a good institute in India or abroad,
if u can suggest some good ones in India….(cos here only Maac and frameboxx are heard mostly which offer 12-15 month course from basics which include only 2-3 months of teaching related to vfx like dynamics, particles etc)
by my research i got to know
VFS offers one yr power packed course(expensive),
so is lostboys (46 weeks)(lesser than VFS),
escape studios around 12 weeks(costly for such a short time but even its power paked– still thinkin cos i’m still a beginner),
Academy of Art(if ur a graduate then u can have second bacheolars for two yrs –lesser then VFS)
n most other are offering degree course which i cant do now…
so a maximum of 2yrs is wat ‘m looking at…..so among these which one is worth the money?? and has placement opportunities….being an international student ‘ve look into stay, fee as well for placement so post ur suggestions
(looking for both students and industry insiders suggestions pls help)
2. My experience in this field is nill in the sense ‘d done basics of animation like ball bounce, walk cycle , dog fight etc and nothing related to Vfx till now…but standards here are low so planning to study in a good inst…
so do u want me to work bit more on vfx this in India b4 joining these schools??since most in those classes have yrs of experience in the field..
3. How far does the knowledge of art helps u in this field??
4.I’m learning MEL on my own…so far will that be helpful??
hoping to get some replys:thumbsup:
Moving to Vancouver
Posted in: Professional Career Advice!I’m planning to move to Vancouver next year for a couple of years and was wondering if anyone could help me out with some info.
I’m a UK national so will need a visa. Do Canadian companies help with this sort of thing? What type of visa? Is it worth using a visa agency?
How’s the industry? I have read on the web that it’s a growing industry in Vancouver and that there are plenty of jobs. Is this true?
I have a family to support so am interested in the rates of pay. No figures needed just is it enough? (I’m a compositor with about 5 years experience, currently working on films).
I’ve had a look on the intraweb but there’s so much info, esp regarding visas, that I’m not sure where to begin!
Any info much appreciated.
Thanks

Indian Billing rate
Posted in: Professional Career Advice!I don’t want to start another thread of outsourcing bashing, or another thread about the pro’s and con’s of outsourcing. But does anyone know how much the Indian Firms bill their US clients at for Compositing and Roto work?
I read that indian artists are paid at about $1/hour. But surely the Indian studios that hire these artists are not billing the US client at $1/hour or $2/hour. I imagine it is closer to $25/hour because they have to absorb other costs like Software license, rent, insurance etc.
Does anyone know the billing rate of Indian Studios to US clients?
