Virgilio Villoresi: Moleskine Perspectives

Here’a a nice little forced-perspective spot from Virgilio Villoresi and Neue Big. There’s many more in-camera tricks in his portfolio, including the photo heavy viral video for fashion label Dsquared2 and the Lou Rhodes’s “The Rain” music video, made with Erica il Cane. His work reminds me of Zbig Rybcynski, Virgil Widrich, and David Russo – a playful change of pace.

1stAveMachine / Aaron Duffy: Google Chrome Features

Using the same camera perspective trick employed by weareom for their “Chop Cup” viral (or sidewalk artist Julian Beever or Salvador Dalí or countless others, I’m sure), Google worked with 1stAveMachine’s Aaron Duffy to craft a series of elaborate analogue vignettes to tout the features of its Chrome browser.

Some of the ideas work better than others, with the obvious crowd-pleaser being the Speed demo. The subtext for all the vignettes is a celebration of DIY ingenuity, of making something seemingly simple through the complex combination of unlikely components. In many cases, the machines are human-powered, with hand-turned cranks and puppeted objects supplying the “animation.”

Mostly, though, the message is one we don’t often hear among the nerdified banter of browser battles: Surfing the net should be fun. It should be unexpected, but not because your browser crashes or because you contract a nasty virus.

Big ups to Fred Kim for the tip (via Gizmodo)

Fox Sports Design / La Huella: Nascar Underground

foxsports_nascar

Fox Sports Design and Madrid-based VFX house, La Huella, collaborate on a Nascar adventure that gives us a sweet new perspective on racing.  Great compositing and 3D work seamlessly match up the live-action to create some interesting angles and fun shots.

The live-action scenes were filmed by Fox Sports Creative Director, Mark Simmons, while La Huella’s 3D team was off and running.  “This was one of the more difficult shoots we’ve ever undertaken,” said Simmons. “Safely suspending actors 14 feet off the ground on a glass floor was a huge logistical problem.”

This whole concept really lends itself to putting the camera in some interesting viewpoints, giving us some nicely designed compositions and amusing moments (the bolts falling toward camera is a great touch).  It also makes the cars really feel like they’re the boss! Thanks for the tip, Sean.
