Automatically recovering from a crash

Hi There,

Nuke seems to be pretty unstable for me (vista 64), especially a few nodes (i.e F-depth). Though, it’s not so bad. For when I’m at the computer, an occasional program restart is not so painful, given the auto recover feature. BUT, if I’ve left the computer over night for a render, and it crashes mid sequence, the bugginess is a problem.

An idea:
One solution that I implemented for an art installation was to have python send me a text message if my program crashed. cool, but still requires me to go to the computer.

My preferred solution: have some script detect an error/crash and have it abort, restart, reload my filel, and continue rendering at the place it left off. I’m using vista 64, but I can imagine a solution that isnt OS specific.

Is this possible? Ideas? Surely the big (and little) studios have dealt with this problem.

Thanks!

Custom frame tags to write?

Hi,

I am doing a lot of stills rendering these days, all the cameras are animated over time. So every different frame is a different shot. I am wondering, how could I add a custom frame tags to the frames in nuke so that when I render those custom names are added to the file name?
Right now I got a list which includes frame numbers and corresponding Episode_Shot numbers. After rendering and before handing over the files I go and rename them by hand which takes up a lot of time! 🙂

Thanks!

HDRI lighting in nuke??

Settings on Read’s default values

Hi all,

I believe everyone would agree that when reading nodes by default, Nuke would set to ‘hold’, "Frame Range", "Start up" frame settings to actual image sequence numbers.

Is there a way to set the following as default
– Always "Frame Range" set to 1, even if sequence starting is eg: 10-40
– Always "black" | "black"
– Frame "start up" to 1

I read some of the articles before dealing with same issue. But trust me after reading for 2 hours, nothing helped. May be it is because i am a novice Nuke user. sorry.

Can anyone please help.

Primatte, Keylight & IBK….

Hello everyone,

I default to Keylight for the majority of shots that require a key and feel that I’m probably missing out on the other options. Are there a few guidelines or things to watch for that would suggest a shot using IBK or Primatte? Thank you.

Best,
Craig

modify fbx-geo in new “vertex selection mode”

hey guys,

i´m testing the vertex selection mode (not for 6.0 and below) with an fbx-geo. not sure if it´s intended like that: i thought it should be possible to move a bunch of vertices to deform the geo now?? for any reason, it´s not working. also tried to use modifiers like the geo-select node.
thanks for any suggestions…

speed up workflow – manage user knobs

hi, i’ve just tried 6.1, i thought this thing has been ‘fixed’ in 6.1 , but it’s not.
I don’t know any good reason , why everytime i hide knob (manage user knob) , the knob’s label is always reset to empty, so i have to retype again and again. This little problem is annoying. Is there any reason why the foundry keep it that way?

Again in ‘manage user knob’ , it will be handy if in case i use like pyscript_button or tcl_button etc, i can type the code and apply the code immadiatelly without have to close the window first. This is taking me a lot of time while debugging the code coz i need to re-open , edit , close , test it then if something is wrong , i have to re-open ,edit , close over and over again. Something like ‘apply’ button in that window will speed up the workflow specially when using a long code/scripts, not to mention the additional ‘little’ time needed to scroll through the script it self, coz when reopen the window to edit script, the window’s size will be reset so i need to resize my window to view my long script.

Just sharing 🙂

Merge to HDR in Nuke?

Hi,

I’m wondering if there’s a simple way to mimic Photoshop’s ‘Merge To HDR’ function, where I can import a series of LDR photos taken of a light probe and merge them into a HDR image.

Thanks.
