Expression calculates result, but won’t use it

Hey guys It’s so great to have a community of experts to ask advice from!
I’m trying to parent roto points to a tracker. Hopefully giving me a horizon line based on three tracking points and three roto points. The middle roto point is a bezier and I want the left+right handles to average between the centre and side track points.

Quote:

(Tracker_horizon.track4-10+Tracker_horizon.track2-10)/2

This should add the two track points together (minus 10px offset) and divide by two, hence giving me an average.

But, while in the expression dialog I get the correct result, after it’s applied it seems as if the "/2" is ignored.

Any ideas?

offsetting animation?

Hi,

I have .tif sequence and i have imported it in nuke, and i want to offset the animation
i.e. i want the animation to start couple of seconds later instead right away (i know in AE i can simply drag the layer or time remap)

i know in nuke i can time offset it but i need to be able to do it graphicly i want to look at the frames something like animation

is that possible?

thanks

Difficult/crumby key

Hey All,

I have some difficult footage with a blue/green background and some annoying shadows.

I know there is no magic button to pull a good key, especially when the original footage is messy. I have something to look at, but it doesn’t look at all professional. I have attached a pre/post and my key node setup. Please note that white is not going to be the final background, it’s just to show you guys.

Any pros out there with advice on how to approach a hard key? You can see I have some bad outlining on the arms. Maybe I’m just screwed by the shadows on the original footage, but let me know if you guys have any ideas on how to solve my problem. Holistic or specific answers totally appreciated.

Oh and please forgive me if my script is a sinful mess. I’m a newb.

Thanks so much!
Paul

The Other Guys – bar scene making of ?

I just saw "The Other Guys" and I’m wondering how they shot these scene:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_xGkwa6Qtw

Is something like this usually done with a motion-control camera?
Did they shoot the actors from several perspectives and then placed them somewhere in the scene with camera-procetion and rough 3d models?

Thank you in advance

splitting [value root.name]

hi guys,
another tcl question.

i use [lrange [split [value root.name] / ] 6 6 ] to split of to ‘show_shotname’

filepath looks like this:
/Volumes/xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx/show_shotname/show_shotname.nk

is it possible to split of ‘show_shotname’ in a way to get the text before and after the underscore separately?

thanks in advance

F_Kronos Motion blur

i was looking up the tutorial on the Foundry site about using motion estimation within the Furnace_Kronos node.

the shot im doing involves a man as the fg and him running across the screen creating alot of motion blur. im trying to isolate him as a matte so that kronos will know which is the fg and which is the bg so i can do a speed up on the shot seq. do anyone know if when you do fg roto. do you roto the motion blur of the man running across or should i be rotoing to the hard edge?

at the moment i’ve tried both and coming out with different result. neither one being accurate to a good visual state.

thanks

how to pivot an image in 2d environement?

Hi! I am doing a minority report effect with a screen floating and following a prop on my arm that i tracked with the basic tracker, it follows good but i need to find a way to pivot it in another angle and the transform node doesn’t seem to have that option can anyone help? thank you!

edit: i can play with the corner pin node but there must be a better way to do it?

Basic Question: 50fps feel like slow-motion

just shot some other test-footage today on 50fps and found out that it is playing half the speed as it really happened.

So inside nuke’s project settings I wrote: 50fps

But nothing changed.

Writing it out at 50fps works on speed but the quality suddenly became worse.

Hope one has a quick hint for me… didn’t find an answer on google or so.

Thank you in advance! 🙂

RED MYSTERIUM-X .R3D / NUKE

Hallo.

Recently i’ve got some greenscreen shots to composite, shot on RED ONE with new MX sensor. Since REDCINE-X is capable of simple .R3D trimming and NUKE can work with .R3Ds, i am just wondering what would be the most effective/correct way to handle them, and pull a good key from it. Do i have to decide and develop my RAWs to desired look first and than key somehow, or what would be the best way to do it ? LIN/LOG ? Output will be HD Rec.709, or sRGB wor web. What kind of lookup shall i use ?
Do you guys have some workflow advise for me ? Thanx a lot, Klasmen.
