Generic Math Problem.. Distance between 3D points…

Hey..

this is not a Nuke specific problem, but i thought of putting it here as i has the best chance of getting an answer to this here..

well.. my question is how to find the liner distance for one point to another point in 3D

for instance

[X=10, Y=21, Z=23] ——-> [X=13, Y=24, Z=44]

i can figure out the the distance equation for two 2D points

Distance= √(ΔX^2 + ΔY^2)

but can someone hook me up with a equation that results in the distance between two 3D points…. i know this is high school math but im blank on this matter..

thankx again.. :niceone:

Nuke won’t start on iMac i7, help!

Hi all!

So I’ve just received a shiny new workstation, the new 27" Imac with the i7 cpu, sweet!

I install Nuke 5.2v3, then go to run it… icon "zooms" as if to start, then nothing.

Ok, so I install 5.2v1… same thing, not even a mention in the Activity Monitor.

So, I decide to "nuke" the HDD and do a clean install of OSX.

Restart, install Nuke 5.2v3 again, launch, same result! Zoom, then nothing.

Am I missing something?

Does Nuke not work with the i7 CPU’s or something?

I have it running on my MBP w/snow leopard just fine. And I have installed it many times without this issue.

Has anyone else come across this? I have a pretty heavy deadline, and this was my saviour… seems like I’m done for! 😉

Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

An HD Pixel question to clear up

Hi all,
I have an age old question: (well for me anyway)
I have a HD Canon that records @ 1440 X 1080 1.33

What’s the difference if I render a video @ 1920 x 1080 aspect square, or…1440 X 1080 aspect 1.333 ???

When I observe them up close, they look the same.
If there are 1,920 pixels by 1,080 pixels in a given area. And those pixels are square in shape, is that better than 1,440 pixels by 1,080 pixels in a given area that are enlongated or stretched?

My instinct is to say, the more pixels the better, however, if you think about pictures, if you took a 720 x 480 picture, then rendered it at 1920 x 1080, do you now have a HD image?…No you don’t and the image would be pixelated to boot.

So my question is:
If the native video format of the HDCanon is 1440 x 1080 1.333, what gives the BEST resolution, 1920 x 1080 square, or 1440 x 1080 1.33 when rendering it out of nuke, After effects, etc..???

Thanks,
Lou

vector paint in AEFX?

Hi everybody, I’ve got a doubt.
Is there some tool similar to vector paint from AE fx for Nuke?

I need to draw some lines in the screen and make them appear as I have drawn them.

Masks are a paint in the ass for this job cause sometimes drawings will be complicated.

Thank you in advanced.

Convert coordinate 3d to 2d in nuke

Hi there 🙂

I’m looking for an expression to convert 3d coordinate into 2d X,Y?

In after effects, there is a wonderful expression named "toComp" that converted 3d position into a 2d coordinate.

I’m looking for the same thing in nuke. =)

thanks

HELP! write node…wrong aspect

Hi all,
I have tried every combination there is to get this _uckin write node to use any pixel ratio other than SQUARE.

For example, My clip is 1440 X 1080 1.33 aspect = 16:9

I have been using MOV ext with ANIMATION as my codec.
Every render comes out with a square pixel ratio (4:3)

I tried:
checking or unchecking the "USE FORMAT ASPECT" in the write node
I made sure that my project & reformat node is set to 1.333
I even set the codec to ntsc/dv and selected 16:9 aspect
and it STILL came out as 4:3!

What gives???
What am I missing?
thanks a bunch,
Lou
