amazing. when are we going to get better edit integration / time controls in nuke?
Red & Linear vray in Nuke
Posted in: NUKE from The FoundryWe are setting up a new project and we are having some questions about the linear workflow in Nuke.
Our current workflow is this:
r3d files go through RedCine.
We output as DPX (redspace,Gamma=redlog)
3d team renders everything linear in vray and output as float exr’s.
When importing the red dpx files and the 3d files to Nuke should they both be taken in with "linear colorspace" or how is this usually done?
Might need a primer in linear workflows cause this is a bit confusing at the moment….
How do you guys usually work?
Any light on the situation would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

scene path variable
Posted in: NUKE from The FoundryI was just wondering if there is any variable that allows me to put eg. into read nodes and gives me the path were my .nk file is located, so that I can just move a project folder with its sub folders without losing the pathes to files in subfolders etc ?
I saw the Gnomon Workshop DVD 1 on Nuke Compositing a few weeks back. Great stuff.
In the lectures he mentioned a node that is able to determine the brightest spot in an assigned zone of a given footage, that can be used in-turn to drive tracking data for lens flare etc, which I thought was pretty neat.
However I’ve forgotten the name of the node and I’ve sat through several of the lectures again but I can’t seem to find where he mentioned it (Can’t skip around in the gnomon dvd).
Anyone remember the name?
i want to integrated some cg stuff on red footage and need to match the digital noise from the compression.
Retiming Z channel
Posted in: NUKE from The Foundryfor the sake of rendering times, we have just rendered a slow motion sequence out of vray at normal speed and i am retiming it usig kronos.
Of course, retiming the rgb channels went smooth and sequence looks ok.
But now i am trying to apply zblur to the slow segment and i am having trouble slowing down the zdepth
I have tried to aply the zblur before retiming, but times of calculation goes up, i suppose triggered by the semitransparent alpha. Also, more arfifacts are aparent with the pre-blured version.
I have tried to retime the z channel using a cloned node from the rgb analysis, but results are extrange and unusable.
At the moment i am testing with the _vectorGenerator and trying to use the exact vector data on all channels, but can´t get to a nice result yet.
I have the VrayVelocity pass if i can feed it to the motion estimator to help with the calculations, but so far i wasn´t able to translate that info to furnace´s vectors format.
I am asking if anyone can help with some info or thoughts about this workflow. By this time rendering the whole slow motion sequence is not a possibility i´m affraid.
Thanks in advance

Node drag-drop
Posted in: NUKE from The FoundryI searched the user guide but didn´t find an answer. When I have a node connected in the tree, and this node has also some inputs, and I want to move for example the node to another point, how can you achieve this?
Like dragging the node out of the stream, but let the connections around stable, and then drag it somewhere else in the stream?
Hard to describe actually 🙂
Like extracting and pasting somewhere else but let the connections. maybe the jpg is better to understand. I do not mean the ctrl-shift-x command.
Problem with installation
Posted in: NUKE from The FoundryC:/Program Files/Nuke6.0v2/plugins/menu.py : error interpreting this plugin
I unistalled the Nuke and tried to install again, but the same message again and I can’t run the program (I haven’t tried to install NFX).
Do you know why does this happen?
Thank you inadvance!

read Nodes
Posted in: NUKE from The Foundryfirst range is 1-100
second one is 67-100
how do add the previous 66 frames to the sec node so that both start with same frame ranges but the sec one actually starts on the 67 frame..
thnks.
