HOOD BY AIR SKID AN ORWELLIAN UNICORN INTO 2010.

Picture 2

A few years ago we played a skid party in Vancouver at a club called the Royal Unicorn (skids are the straight Vancouver equivalent of the NY banji scene which is essentially a bunch of lesbi-gays making awesome fashion / music / dance partiness. Does that make sense?). Anyway, the Royal Unicorn was an old massage parlor in Chinatown converted into a Karoake club. The same owners still ran the show and did very minor retrofitting to switch over from rubbing to singing which meant rather then being greeted by a bubbly clubgirl you instead paid the cover at the top of the stairs to a man behind a bulletproof glass window who sat in front of a bank of mini tvs that were linked to security cameras throughout the whole place. It was like partying in the future. Blade Runner style. This Hood By Air lookbook for 2010 is like a Blade Runner party at the Royal Unicorn circa 2025. Damn.

WMIG and Samantha Pleet have been toiling long and hard to finish up the new lookbook for the Samantha Pleet Holiday Collection and it is finally here! Pleet TV, in all it’s disheveled glory, is our take on a clothing line’s video lookbook. Part TV Party, part Wayne’s World, and part Muppet Show; we smashed all of these glorious things together to create a rough cut fly by the seat of your pants tv show style lookbook that presents Samantha’s new holiday collection in a hilariously unscripted public access cable kind of setting. We built the set in an abandoned warehouse, set up one 16mm camera and 2 HD video cameras then unleashed the Pleet family to drink champagne, dance, sing, tap dance, and make us laugh all while wearing the charming wares of Samantha Pleet. With cameos from a host of familiar faces like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Carlen Altman, and Au Revoir Simone it’s quite a unique snapshot of Samantha Pleet and all her amazing friends. Viva la PLEET TV!!!!

KIMMEL’S SCREENTESTS.

adamkimmel-747785

Adam Kimmel’s lookbook for Fall / Winter 2009 puts Factory alum Gerard Malanga behind the lens to recreate Warhol’s famously awkward screentests from so many decades ago. Stacked from top to bottom with familiar and talented faces, all methods of artistic expression get screentime as Kunle Martins, Matthew Barney, Francesco Clemente, and Glenn O’Brien – to name a few – sit on the hot seat in heavily shadowed awkwardness. Oh yeah, and the clothes are pretty awesome too. Check em out HERE.
