Baselight auto conform

Hi All

Is it possible to take 5d footage, offline this via log and transfer in FCP. Make and edl and in baselight for final grade, take the edl and relink to the original H.264 files for final grade? Will this auto conform….

We can see the media etc..but the edl wont link at all..it defaults to the first clip all the time in the rushes /card /folder

Is it all possible actu8ally?

Baselight HD system with compressor and xserve.

Cheers

Will this do for VFX?

Hey guys, i just got started a wihle ago in VFX and have gotten pretty good, but my computer hasnt… its horrible. It cant run after effects as i need it too, and in a word BLOWS.

Wondering if one of these 2 (looking mainly at CPU, video cards, and RAM) would be a decent starting comp for VFX:

If ur wondering why staples? they lease. My computer basically cant do **** so let me know if these could at least do WELL with how they come, and if upgrading the Video card down the road would help etc.

Cheers

Comp Help. + Video card advice

Hey guys, would this be a good VFX editing computer? mine right now is, in a word, HORRIBLE.

This seems good, only thing that worries me is the video card, its TWO NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT which are good cards, but apparently are gaming cards… which ive heard are counter productive to editing.

Worth it or no?

Ive looked into the 2500 mac pro but its only got 3gb ram

Computer Recommendations (for PricevPerformance)

Hello VFX talk!
Ive had a quick look through the forums and seen many similar topics but nothing that fully answered my question.

Heres my situation:
I’m somewhat new to VFX but pretty decent, and insanely addicted and interested, about to head off to a post graduate degree program in VFX, and trying to get into the industry. My computer however… lets just say doesnt wanna join me on the journey.

Im looking for a computer to use (almost exclusively for vfx, if not actually exclusivley) with great render time, graphics, RAM, etc.

I need something that performs VERY well, but also isn’t a full on professional setup that will cost thousands because quite honestly I dont have tons of money.

I was hoping some people here could give me a few suggestions for each different price range, basically starting from the cheapest possible setup that will run ***AFTER EFFECTS*** and all other adobe programs, possibly maya, and 3ds max. So again, start as low in price as you can while still running it smoothly, and move up to some decent priced setups.

I also know there are opinions and sitautions on all these questions but give me an "in general" option.

So:

Mac VS PC?
Hardrive?
Motherboard?
RAM? (Motherboard allows alot i hope)
CPU(s)

And all other specs you can think of.

Much obliged!

Nuke cache problems (RAID)

Hi!

Having some reeeeally troubling issues with my RAID-setup and Nuke caching…

I have a 2010 Mac pro with 1 system disk and 4 7200rpm WD Caviar Black disks soft-raided (striped, 256k) which I’m trying to use as cache storage.

When doing disk speed tests I’m reaching 402 / 405 mb/s read and write speed wich SHOULD be enough for 10bit 2k DPX files (right?)

However, I’m only reaching speeds around 11fps when I’m playing a sequence back in the viewer, this is with one read node and nothing else in the script.

I’ve tried different Raid block sizes, but 256 is the fastest option so far.

This is what bothers me the most at the moment: When I set up my OS disk as cache disk, I’m reaching playback speeds at 15fps easily. Makes me want to kill myself, I didn’t get a 4 disk RAID for nothing 🙁 🙁

I’ve also tried having my source material on my OS disk, caching to my RAID, and vice versa.

I even tried 2 disk raid for source material and another 2 disk raid for cache, but I get even worse results then :/

Help anyone !!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the playback of 2k 10bit DPX files in DJV is almost flawless (around 23-24fps at the first playback)

DJV PLAYER??

Has anyone heard of djv player?? is it like framecycler, where we can play only sequences??

SSD hard drive, worth it?

Hi!

I’m thinking of getting a SSD disc for my computer. Specially this one,
http://www.ocztechnology.com/product…ata_ii_2_5-ssd

The price in Sweden is about £100.

The thing i’m wondering is, how much increase in performance do I actually get? I’m working most in AE and Nuke x64.
Does it narrow down my render times and the time it takes to do flipbooks and so on?

The spec of the computer at the moment,
AMD x2 6000+
6gb 667mhz ddr2
x1900gt 256mb graphic card
250 gb 7200rpm systemdrive
500gb 7200rpm storage drive
All is running Win7 x64

Humble advice required pls.

Hi guys need help………. i will be buying a desktop replacement soon that will be a LAPTOP i have very few options because there are very specific brands available here HP & SONY VAIO.

pls help me deciding !

1_ HP PAVILION___DV7T_CORE I7 (720) QM, 4 GB DDR3 , 500 GB HDD , NVIDIA GT 230M

2- SONY VAIO VPCF115FM-B OR 121FXB___CORE I7 (740) QM , 4 GB DDR3 , 500 GB HDD , NVIDIA GT 310M

PLS SUGGEST ME…. I LIKE PHYSX OF NVIDIA GT 230M but 310M don`t have it !

I will be doing realflow , maya fluids – dynamics and multicore renderings.

My questions are,

1-Does MAYA supports GT 230M and PHYSX ?
2 Does any body have any experience with HP CORE I7 Series for 3d work ?

Waiting for ur replies..:)

Wacom bamboo fun instead of intuos4

Hi, I’m thinking of getting a wacom pen. I have a genius 8×6 MousePen that isn’t bad for playing around but sucks for working.

The most of my work is done in Nuke and a little bit in Photoshop in a 21.5” fullhd monitor.

Someone is ofering me a Wacom Bamboo Fun Small (the white one) and I’m not sure if buy it or continue with my genius till I could but a intuos4 small.

Is a really big diference for my case between those two and the genius?

Thanks

Raid solution for 2k dpx realtime

Hi,

we are working with 2k, 10 bit, dpx files, for color grading (single stream)
We will be working on Resolve on Mac (yep, we have a tight budget 😉 )
I have seen 2k dpx realtime with Resolve on Mac at IBC using around 8 nodes of color correction and it was still realtime, so it should be possible…

we would look for a raid solution to play these files in realtime (about 350 Mbits/s garanteed as overhead).

I found various solution per fibre channel in a price range of about 8 000 –
10 000 € total with a controller.
Does anybody know a budget solution, maybe via eSata?

I was talking to someone at IBC who was telling me about two eSata enclosures each equipped with 8 drives as a raid 5 and then those two raid5 are striped as a raid 0. Does anyone have experience with that kind of system?

I would be glad if anybody could share their thoughts or give me some recommendations.

thanks
