telestream episode pro / converting a quicktime into mpeg2 format issues

we want to to convert an quicktime ( animation codec, no audio)

into the following:

Final Delivery Video Format & Illustrations
– MPEG2, 1920x1080px
– 50p
– I-Frame only
– HP@HI
– CBR
– CBR
– 40Mbit
– Closed GOP
– GOP<15
No audio is required for these animations

So far we keep getting this error:
MPEG2 encoder: Invalid video horizontal size(1920)/vertical size (1080)/frame rate(50.00 fps) combination.

if i convert it with 25fps it works fine but not with 50fps?

Can anyone help?

Need advice on optimal setup with 2x SSD 1x platter

So I use nuke and AE/3d rendering programs a lot and I am just about to reinstall my software because i got a new crucial m4. I know in an ideal world you should be running your OS on one drive, your software on another, be reading input from another, and outputting to another.

With these drives though I am not sure what I should have where. Are the benefits of using separate drives minimal when one drive is so much faster? Should I just install everything on the m4 or should I put win7 on the 80gb drive and install all my software on the m4? Currently I plan on installing the OS and all my software on the M4 and using the 80gb ssd to read from and output to the 2tb drive.

256gb crucial m4: read:415mb/s write 260 mb/s
80gb intel x-25m read:250mb/s write : 70mb/s
2tb 64mb cache HD
1tb 32mb cache HD

Render node for fluid simulation

I need a render computer for my fluid simulation (and other renders)
what is the most important thing in rendering? the CPU? GPU? RAM?

i use Maya 2012 and Realflow 2012, i thought about the mac mini server, what do you think? you can give me cheap setup based on linux (fedora) for my needs (between 500$ to 1000$).

thank…

Linux Based Nuke, Mari, and Maya machine

Hey Guys,
I’m getting ready to drop some money down on a linux workstation for NukeX and Mari. And I was just wondering if anyone had any advice? Specifically I’m not sure if it’s better to have a single CPU quad core or 6 core machine vs a dual cpu 8 core or 12 core machine. And if it is better to have a 2 cpu machine how do I know the motherboard I purchase supports two cpus? Can you have 2 i7 cpus or do you have to use Xeon processors for dual cpus? I was also debating between a Nvidia Quadro 600 and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 580. My goal is to have a very high end compositing suite that will also come in handy for 3D work in Maya and Mari. Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

DSLR and Necessary Gear For Shooting Good Videos….

I am planning on getting a new entry level dslr Nikon D5100 and I am wondering what kind of gear will help me for shooting videos and Photos for vfx.

Right now I added the Nikkor 50mm F1.8G to my list.

My budget for this initial purchase is 1500$ -1700$ but I am planning on buying more parts maybe 3 – 4 months down the lane.

So please drop your suggestions.

I cant afford to buy a pro body right now because my dad is paying for all this gear:p.So I am trying to squeeze in all that I immediately need to get me started with photography and vfx.

Thanks.:)

Processor fan, is a off-brand fan necessary?

I was looking at buying a new i7 Sandy Bridge Intel processor. Many reviews on Newegg state a better fan is needed for the processor. I’m wary since those reviews are written for overclockers/modders/nerd elitists, which I have no interest in.

Would the fan that’s included in the boxed processor usable or a better fan worth the money?

Internal HDD recommendations?

Howdy,
I’m looking to upgrade my internal HDD in my Macbook Pro and am wondering if anyone could recommend any serious, reliable work horses from experience?

My current internal is a 5,400rpm 320GB. I’m looking at getting a 7,200rpm, hopefully 750GB or there abouts.

I’ve looked at the Momentus XT, with the on board 4GB SSD chip, not sure entirely whether this will benefit me though due to the amount of different programs I use on a regular basis?

Other than that, I’ve been considering the Seagate Momentus and the WD Scorpio Black.

I noticed that Western Digital also offer the Scorpio Blue, which is just 5,400rpm, but goes up to 1tb!! It’s the biggest 2.5" I’ve seen so far!
Also, is cache a big thing in performance? I notice that some (ie. Scorpio Blue) have 8mb, and some have 16mb?

To shed some light on my situation, my main work flow generally involves FCP, Motion, Color, Nuke, PFTrack, Houdini, RealFlow and Logic Pro.

Any help or advice would be fantastic and greatly appreciated 😀

Thanks in advance guys.

Setup for Shake 4.1

Hi guys, I know all about it being discontinued and so on, well I recently got hold of shake 4.1 and would like to know what would be the ideal Mac System setup would be to run shake 4.1? All I will be doing is to match up 3D elements onto live action plates, not sure if I would be doing roto or grading as I’m going for a 3D job not a 2D.

I don’t think I can afford a Mac Pro but I have looked at the imacs and mac mini being the cheapest. However the mac mini spec is pretty limited with only 2GB Ram (upgradable), would that be enough with all the render passes and live plate that need to be comp? Also the CPU is 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, is this fast enough? Of course on the other hand the cheapest imacs have i5 CPUs now and 4 GB ram but is this overkill? I guess I just want a reliable machine to run shake and comp out a sequence of images to be edited. Any thoughts and help welcome thank you.

HD Camcorder advice needed

Sorry that this is a copy of a post , but I realised this was the better section to ask in .

What would be the best camera I could get with a budget of bewtween 2.500 – 3000 euros with the following spec

HD (full)
4:2;2 ( even if only with just straight to disk )
24p and 60p

the above are essential anything else would be of secondary importance although ability to change lenses would be an excellent plus as would great low light capabilities and with lowest compression possible.

My ideal camera would have been the Sony F3 35mm camcorder but my budget goes nowhere near it. I need to be able to pull good chroma shots with it.
any suggestions, advice, anecdotes or links to start me off in my search?

Thanks in advance

Which processor should I buy for mental ray rendering?

So mainly mental ray rendering? Also some sims with realflow, fumefx, etc. Also some nuke, but my main concern is rendering.

Options:
i7 970 (6 cores@3.2Ghz)
2600k (4 cores@3.4Ghz)

Watching some benchmarks 2600k is better, but saw some tests with POVRay and Cinebench and i7 is still way better. I really need an advice on this one.
Thanks.
