BRIAN ENO UPDATES THE DVD FIREPLACE.

705289994_fab1f8729f_o

Brian Eno’s 77 Million Paintings will be on display at the University Art Museum from Sept. 12th to December 13th. The piece is a constantly changing series of light paintings created by Eno and set to – of course – a soundtrack of his creation. The idea is that as these paintings morph into each other there is no possible way for any combination to repeat itself. You can also buy the DVD for home hypnotization, which is kind of like a way smarter version of that fireplace video your Aunt and Uncle who never had kids thought was so cool.

MAKE LIKE A TREE AND LEAVE.

tree-hotel-by-tham-videgard-hansson-arkitekter-squ-harads1

The problem with vacationing or camping in the woods is being vulnerable at ground level to man-eating bears or fighting with your imagination that the next woodsman serial killer is out looking for you. Instead, take those collection of thoughts and throw them over the edge of a camouflaged hotel designed by Swedish architects Tham + Videgard Hansson Arkitekter. Above and away from impending danger blend within the foliage and hope the sound of birds crashing into the walls won’t disturb you.

BONG LOADED HIGH STREET FASHION FROM P.A.M.

popcrop

Any suspicions that you may have had about the ladies from P.A.M. actually being a pair of extremely motivated, Australian stoners rather than a couple of uptight, design nerds were indubitably confirmed when their press release stated that their POP! Eyes collection was inspired by David Attenborough’s The Tribal Eye. Take a look at their new adventure onto high street HERE and load up the bong before you head out to the teepee.

Pop! Eyes: — A sophisticated excursion from the studio of Perks And Mini (P.A.M.)

Ten years on from P.A.M., the designers unveil the Pop! Eyes debut 09-10 collection inspired by the David Attenborough documentary, The Tribal Eye and a recurring fascination with moments of historical significance rediscovered and translated.

Pop! Eyes is the result of a collision between deep interest in other societies far removed from our own, and the exploration into the feminine virtues of womenswear. This has brought about a refined collection of charming, off beat pieces made with high quality natural fibres including cottons, silks, and linen blends which are seen in a colour palette that pops with yellow and pulls back with earthy tones of chocolate, grey, charcoal and cream.

With a marked movement away from the more casual styling seen in P.A.M; Pop! Eyes has not lost the potency so inherent to its creators. The ethos in the creative process remains the same, with the pair having no desire at all to pander to the waxing and waning of the movements of trend. Their objective and the result are much the same, the creation of something incredibly beautiful but wholly innovative which has overcome the temporary nature of seasonal trends.

Be sure to check out the Wish You Were Here pop up shop on Orchard Street before it ends on Sept. 13th! Get all the info on who’s participating, exact location, calendar of events and more by clicking HERE.

RAVED OUT SOWETO FASHION SLUMS.

smarteez-by-chris-saunderssmall

Our buddies at Live From the Coast tipped us off to Johannesburg photographer Chris Saunders the other day and we decided to keep the chain mail going by giving it a REEEEEEEEEEEEEPOST. Check out the beautiful slew of portraiture, documentary photography, and fine art but be sure to give an extra special double check to the spread he did for Colors Magazine on the raved out Soweto fashion slums. We can’t really imagine the soundtrack that matches their streetwears but someone should definitely send it to us.smartiesgallery5
