I would highly appreciate any feedback and comments. Especially from this forum. Tell me what you notice in the background, hopefully I have done what I set out to do. which was make a video you could watch 500 times and still not see everything. ENJOY!!!

This video was created by just 2 people, Ben Daure & Tom Box within After Effects and Photoshop over 8 solid months

Yep… it took 8 long months to create this video, and not 8 months on and off. 8 months of working a regular 9-5 job then coming home and working until 1 in the morning virtually every night and all through the weekend.

———————————–

What started out as a simple idea quickly turned into the single most colossal project we had ever taken on. Many of the shots were scaled up and up during the original draft and for the majority we had absolutely no idea how to achieve the look we wanted, it was only through completing the first half of the animation that we realised how to achieve what we didn’t think was possible.

About half way through I had to switch to a more powerful computer (when the 3d stuff starts to crop in) as one of the shots was going to take 3 days to render, then a later shot was going to take 10 DAYS!!!. This is because the whole thing was build within after effects, which probably wasn’t really meant for this type for video. So when 900 stupidly high resolution 3d buildings are in 1 scene before the actual build… everything tends to die a bit.

The video was completed on the 24th of December 2010 at 19:00 and then finalised on the 4th of January 2011

For anyone interested in the how we made it:

First I came up with the idea for the video, went through the track and separated it into a rough text edit describing the layout of the shot and exactly how long it was

The it gets storyboarded (Badly because I can’t draw AT ALL) and sent to Box for AMAZIFYING (yep….real word)

Box then try’s….. and try’s to decipher what is actually going on in the storyboard before drawing it in Photoshop whilst separating each layer so that it is prepared for animating

I then squirt the Photoshop file into After Effects where it is timed, built and animated (which sounds a lot easier than it actually is, especially within the 3D shots)

It was done on both a Mac and a Pc but I had to switch to the Mac after the clicky fingers shot as the computer simply didn’t have enough ram and couldn’t handle it. Any fan boys of Apple out there who are all smug now can go to hell because the Mac crashed about 400% more than the PC and had infinitely more problems, even though it was 3 times as powerful. **** APPLE

Harmageddon – Apocalypse film (Doomsday)

This is my new film remake.
New for this film is the vfx, some of the shots, music and especially the color correction.
This film has a better tempo and it’s easier and more interesting to watch than the first one.

Watch HD and not fullscreen to get great quality;

It’s kind of an art film, ’cause it leaves some questions like: what’s haunting him? is he alone? if, why is he alone? do he survive?

Please give me some feedback.

Palm County – A lot of gun effects on Super 16 film

Here is a link to a film I directed and did VFX for a year ago at Chapman University. It’s a 17 minute action flick entitled “Palm County.”

http://vimeo.com/15615247

There are two big action scenes and some other small bits of action throughout. We shot on Super 16mm film, cut on Avid, colored in Lustre and did all of our muzzle flashes, blood effects, debris hits, etc. in After Effects. We then brought it back into Lustre and rendered to our final output from there. I mainly just used a ton of stock footage to get the look of a practical effect I was going for. Let me know what you think!
