Studio lighting

Hi,
I’m trying to improve my rendering skills in terms of product renders with studio lighting.
Can anyone help with a clean, bright white scene with soft shadows, fading reflections and good render setting using mental ray in 3d max?

I have attached an image of something similar to what I am aiming to achieve. i know there’s a lot of info on the web but a lot has to do with interior lighting etc. or a lot of extra settings and effects that I don’t think I need, such as ambient occlusion. I just want a fairly quick and precise way of achieving a crisp render. I’d like the render to be able to blend into a white page so it needs to fade out to white. Also I’m confused when it comes to Exposure control. Do I need to use this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Kronos / Twixtor Help !!!!

Hi there,

I need some help with Kronos / Twixtor with AfterEffects. Considering a video in the link below that was shot from a Nokia N8 at 720p 25 FPS, how can one remove distortions from shots taken from such cameras ?

As it can be seen the application of twix to this video was totally messed up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpAtn9tZDZw

Will a 60 FPS footage help to eliminate such artefacts ? Or are there any other settings i am missin’ ?

Also do these plugins work with fast moving objects in a footage ?

[P.S – I am new to using twix / kronos. This was my 1st comp with twix.]

Technicolor Cinestyle DSLR, LUT?

Hi there 🙂

To preserve as much shadow-detail as possible with a 5DMarkII, i want to install the Technicolor cinestyle-profile.

http://www.technicolor.com/en/hi/cin…ghts/cinestyle

They also have a LUT-file for download.

How can i "install" this Lut-Curve?

And to get it right.. Nuke converts everything to linear while working and back to the original colorspace when exporting? when will i apply this "profile"?

And at last: should i use this Lut-Curve or simply colorgrade myself? 🙂

Node structure in NUKE

I am deeply confused with the node structure or tree node . When , Where to attach a node if wanted and which to be connected.

3Ds max – extract texture from footage

Dear vfxTalk people,

first of all, sorry if I posted this thread in the wrong (sub)forum.

Currently, I work with 3Ds max as 3D program, and i’m planning on using rayfire to make the ground collape in footage.

However, I’m wondering how I could use the real ground’s footage as texture for the 3D plane, acting as ground. I don’t know if I made this clear, I want to know if there is something in max, where you can say to the 3D mesh; "hello mesh, I want you to use a projection of the footage (as viewport’s background) so that the mesh is textured with the footage"

While reading my text, i can understand that this is pretty confusing :p
Maybe i can make my point clear by this movie by corridor digital;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8KDMoL3mzY

where you can see at the beginning, when he jumps at the wall, the wall crumbles, but it has got a texture from the real wall in footage.

thanks in advance!

Guidance

I do not currently work in the VFX industry. Basically a lot of my knowledge is self taught from various tutorials on line (Video Co Pilot, FXphd). Academically I have done an AS in Media. I also completed the first year of a Digital Media Production Foundation Degree course. I am currently very unsure as to what to do next. If I explain, I am 30 years old and have been a keen but strictly hobbyist film maker and editor until a about three years ago. Now I know it is a hard industry to get into and I have left it late in life I do believe I have something to bring to the table, and I have nothing to lose trying. The foundation degree was pretty much a waste of time and the little I did learn was in areas that although very interesting not where my passion lies. This has put me off degree courses and I have started to look more towards on line software specific training. It is all very expensive and there is so much to learn it is hard to decide where to go. The up side of this is there are all sorts of options. The downside is I feel like I am in a bit of a bubble and have forgotten the reason for wanting to do any of this. The mastering of a craft and art form to ultimately create beautiful inspiring imagery. Just trying to network with other people and have more of an active role. Unfortunately because I do not have the back ground I lack some of the inherent knowledge that people display in forums such as these.
Any help advice guidance would be gratefully received and much appreciated.
