camera tracking for zoom in\out ?

Hi all,

I want to practice tracking some video footage that has zoom in\out whereas in the zoom in phase you obviously see details you didn’t see before so all previous tracking points are useless..

I did some tests with realviz matchmover and wasnt’ able to get smooth results at those parts though it could be just me not using the right technique.

What is the acceptable approach for such tracking and which software can handle it best?

Thanks.

*edit*
If I wasn’t clear enough, then for example lets talk about a video of a downtown street shot from a handheld camera while at the middle of the video there’s massive zooming in to one of the buildings.

Education or Experience ?

Hi,

I am a fresh undergraduate and I’ve done my bachelors degree in Animation and Multimedia. After this I was working as a trainee in a company for around 8 months. I was involved in broadcasting graphics for tv related to motion graphics and graphic design. We were doing real time rendering.

Now I’ve quite the company because I was working on their software product and I felt it was limiting my scope. I, now am confused if I should look for a job in the industry or pursue a specialization/master course. I want to do VFX and compositing for movies.

My question is, is it better to look for a job and gain on the job experience in what I want to do or go in for higher education and then look for a job.

Please advice 🙂

Wobble effect

i’m doing this animation for school, it deals with very crude and simple drawings made with windows paint (don’t ask…) and i want to achieve a "wobble" effect on the tracing, kinda like the effect used on Dr. Katz.

i’m thinking aftereffects, but open to suggestions. i know my way around AE, FCP and apple shake. can that effect be achieved with a simple plug-in?

Pipeline/Workflow

hi everybody,
I am trying to understand what a proper work flow is for a small post-house? I need to design a small pipeline for our company. we are doing some changes to improve the quality of our work and I would appreciate if anybody can give me some ideas about workflow and pipeline in general or details. ANY advice, suggestion or information would be much appreciated.

thanks
Ali

Atlanta Area People

I don’t really know of a better place to put this, so.

I’m currently at the Art Institute of Atlanta for VFX&MoGra trying to network and such and I actually have a project that requires some networking.

So let’s cut to the chase. I’m supposed to set up interviews with some people related to my career. I’m in a class that isn’t really along with my major and they’re all interviewing Production Managers and so I’m the odd one out being a VFX student.

I’ve got a list of some potential contacts, but most of them are receptionists at some VFX Post Houses in Atlanta and I don’t know some of the VFX workers at the companies, they don’t have a list of them or anything. My teacher knows a few people she might be able to get me in touch with.

My question for you is, any of you VFX artists based in or around Atlanta that wouldn’t mind being interviewed? I’m slowly making my way into this community you have here. Or if anything, a contact you might have.

I haven’t gotten into any true VFX courses here, but I’ve taught myself throughout high school and I’ve done a lot of FXPHD, Digital Tutors, etc videos and I’m fairly adept. The problem is since I haven’t worked on much at school I have no contacts or anything really, and I’d love to.

I plan on calling up a few this weekend, but your help is MUCH appreciated.

Hopefully you’ll hear more from me in the future.
