Buying a Desktop (Dont know anything about computers)

Hello,
OK. I admit I don’t know a whole lot about computers… I mean I’m fine using one no problem. But as far as whats going on behind the scenes, No clue!

I work as a VFX artist for a Game company and I usually have a sweet big powerful PC provided up at work. I dono whats in there 🙂

I’m looking at doing some fume fx and particle flow and afterburn stuff at home. My PC is old and needs to retire. Money isn’t that big a deal since this is my career now. and I need speed processing these particles/simulations, nice rendering time would be good too.

So I was thinking of just going to my local Frys or Best Buy and asking for a powerful PC!! 😛 But then I though I better ask some professionals.

So my question: Is there some desktop out there already built that I could buy that would handle this stuff with ease? If so could anyone point me in the right direction?

software for keying

hi, do companies expect freshers to know any particular software when it comes to keying. and is there a sector in the industry only for creating effects…..(like, explosions and lightnings)

Best Animation Program for Vehicles

Hi,

I’m starting to learn composting and visual effects and wanted to learn how to add 3D footage to 2D as well. For now, the only thing that I would be intrested in animating is jets, vehicles and maybe people. The two programs I’m looking at is C4D and Maya. I would use PFTrack for motion tracking and then one of the two programs mentioned. I realize the price differnce, but without the price in mind, which is the best one for my needs? (I’m on a mac)

Thanks,
Zevie

Is learning Flame a good idea?

Hi newbie here, I am currently learning Nuke. I have been doing research , just looking at a lot of vfx shops worldwide and it seems that Flame artists are in demand. I know Flame is used mostly for commercial work, cuz of its speed and such. What is the learning curve like? So far learning Nuke is not as bad as I expected and I still have to learn more. This is just an opinion for you all. Is it worth learning? Or should I just stick to learning Nuke and not worry about learning Flame?

Thanks

Examples of a bad composite?

Hey guys,

I am reading through Brinkmann’s book, and trying to learn all of this stuff. I was watching my son’s cartoons – Blues Clues.
I noticed a couple of bad keying spots, but I am sure I am missing some stuff.

Does anyone know of any good examples of bad footage – whether it be keying, rotos or anything. Would like to see why its a bad composite and any notes about it would be helpful.

Thanks guys.

Matt –

Hi!..
I m Stuck with a bad footage having a lot of frame blending & Motion blur. I shot it with a JVC Everio HD handycam. Footage Specifications

I m uploading some frames.

There is no pull down, Frame rate conversion. Video is directly converted int seq with 25 fps

Is there any Plugin that can fix this. I can’t re shoot this.
I hv used Furance Frame repair, krnos. its hardly Working.

required output: Camera is flying in the air & dolly into the CG Car with live character in it.
